Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to get an SA police clearance certificate as a Nigerian

Apply at your local SAPS station with your passport and give fingerprints, or apply from abroad via an SA embassy. How it works and using it overseas.

The short answer

Apply in person at your local South African Police Service station, where your fingerprints are taken; the application goes to SAPS Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management. If you have left South Africa, apply through the nearest South African embassy or by mail. Ask the station for the current fee and processing time. For use in Nigeria, which is not an Apostille party, expect authentication and Nigerian mission legalisation.

Short answer: if you live in South Africa, apply in person at your local South African Police Service (SAPS) station, which takes your fingerprints and sends the application to SAPS Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management. If you have already left, apply through the nearest South African embassy or by mail. SAPS's own page would not load for us in October 2026, so fees and processing times here are not confirmed; ask the station.

Two different certificates

Nigerians in South Africa often need two police documents, and they are easy to confuse:

CertificateIssued byCoversWhere you start
South African police clearance certificateSAPS (Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management)Your record in South AfricaLocal SAPS station
Nigerian police character certificateNigeria Police Force, Force CIDYour record in NigeriaNigerian consulate in Johannesburg, using SAPS fingerprints

This page is about the first. For the second, see Nigerian police clearance while living in South Africa.

How to apply in South Africa

Canada's immigration department, IRCC, which publishes country-by-country instructions for police certificates, says (page modified 27 November 2023):

  • the document is called a Police Clearance Certificate;
  • residents of South Africa "apply in person at your local South African Police Service office";
  • non-residents can apply at their nearest South African embassy, or by mail to the SAPS office;
  • the address to use is SAPS Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management.

IRCC does not list documents, fees or processing times for South Africa; it tells applicants to follow SAPS's instructions. At the station, expect to give fingerprints and show identification. For a Nigerian that means your passport, and it helps to carry your South African visa or permit and a copy of both.

Steps

  1. Go to your local SAPS station with your passport and permit and ask for a police clearance certificate application.
  2. Give fingerprints and complete the form. Ask the fee and how to pay it, and keep the receipt and reference number.
  3. Ask how long it will take and how you will receive it (collection or post).
  4. When it arrives, check the names and passport number exactly match your passport.
  5. If it is for use in another country, check what authentication that country wants before you send it.

Using it outside South Africa

Where the certificate goes decides what extra step it needs.

  • Countries in the Apostille Convention. South Africa has been a party since 30 April 1995. If the receiving country is also a party and asks for authentication, an apostille is the usual route. Canada, for example, joined the Convention with effect from 11 January 2024, but IRCC's own process takes the certificate as issued, so check what the receiving authority actually wants.
  • Nigeria. Nigeria is not an Apostille party. A Nigerian employer, regulator or licensing body may want the certificate authenticated in South Africa and legalised by the Nigerian mission. See legalising South African documents for use in Nigeria.
  • Visa or immigration files. Many immigration authorities set a maximum age for police certificates. Apply close to the date you will submit.

If something on the certificate is wrong

Check the certificate the day you receive it. A wrong passport number, a misspelt name or a missing middle name can be enough for an embassy or employer to reject it. Go back to the station or SAPS office that handled the application with the certificate, your passport and the receipt, and ask for it to be corrected or reissued. If the certificate shows a record you do not recognise, ask SAPS in writing how to query it before you submit it anywhere.

Timing it with other papers

Police certificates are often one item in a bundle with medicals, a passport and proof of funds. Apply for the certificate early enough to have it in hand when the rest is ready, but not so early that it is too old to be accepted. If you also need a Nigerian certificate, start that one first: it involves fingerprints here, a file in Lagos and possibly a courier both ways.

What to check first

  • Whether the authority asking for the certificate needs it from South Africa only, or from every country you have lived in. If Nigeria is also on the list, start the Nigerian certificate at the same time.
  • How recent it must be.
  • Whether it must be authenticated, apostilled or legalised.
  • Whether a translation is needed.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not issue certificates. If an application also asks for proof of funds or of how you pay your way, a Pryme account keeps naira, dollars, pounds and euros apart, and any customer can generate a verifiable statement with VerifyDoc.ai (receipts and statements). The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Also see Nigerian documents for Home Affairs.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian get a police clearance certificate in South Africa?

Yes. Apply at your local SAPS station with your passport; fingerprints are taken there.

Can I apply for SA police clearance after leaving South Africa?

Yes, through the nearest South African embassy or by mail to SAPS, according to IRCC.

How long does SA police clearance take?

SAPS did not publish a time we could confirm. Ask the station when you apply.

Is SA police clearance the same as a Nigerian police certificate?

No. One covers South Africa, the other covers Nigeria and comes from the Nigeria Police Force.
