Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Renting in Atlanta with no US credit: options

How Nigerian newcomers rent in Atlanta without a US credit file: what landlords ask for, guarantor services, and the checks to run before paying.

The short answer

You can rent in Atlanta without US credit by giving the landlord other proof you will pay: an offer letter or pay slips, savings statements, a larger deposit, prepaid rent or a guarantor, including paid guarantor services. Policies differ between large complexes and private landlords, so ask what each accepts for applicants with no US file before paying an application fee.

What you are up against

Metro Atlanta covers many counties and cities, from apartments inside the Perimeter to houses in Gwinnett, Cobb, DeKalb, Clayton and Henry. Large complexes run applicants through screening software that checks credit, rental history and income. A newcomer with no US file often comes back as 'insufficient credit', which some systems treat as a decline and others route to a manual review. Private landlords and smaller agencies usually decide by talking to you. Knowing which kind of landlord you are dealing with tells you how to pitch.

Your options, compared

OptionBest forCost to youAsk the landlord
Offer letter plus first pay slipNew hires on a work visa or Green CardNoneDo you accept an offer letter as income proof?
Savings statementsPeople moving with savingsNoneHow many months of rent must the balance cover?

Prepaid rentShort-term certaintyTied-up moneyHow is prepaid rent recorded in the lease?
Personal guarantorThose with a relative or friend in the USNone, but they take on your liabilityWhat income and credit must the guarantor show?
Guarantor companyThose with no US guarantorA fee, usually non-refundableWhich guarantor services do you accept?

Whatever you choose, get it written into the lease or an addendum, especially any extra deposit or prepaid months.

Guarantor services: what to know

A guarantor company promises the landlord it will pay if you default, in return for a fee from you. It then has a claim against you for anything it pays. Read three things before buying: the fee and whether any of it is refundable, the maximum the company will cover, and what happens at renewal. Not every Atlanta landlord accepts every service, so confirm acceptance before you pay the provider.

Paperwork when you have no SSN yet

Screening companies often use an SSN to find your file. If yours is on its way, tell the leasing office and ask whether they can screen on your passport. The SSA notes an SSN is not required for subsidised housing, but private landlords set their own rules. If you are not eligible for an SSN, some landlords will accept an ITIN, which the IRS issues for tax purposes only (see the ITIN guide).

Worked example: two routes to the same flat

Example only. A two-bedroom in Decatur lists at $1,800 a month. Route A: Dayo, who has savings, offers two months' deposit ($3,600) and three months' statements. Route B: Halima, who has little cash, pays a guarantor company a fee the provider quotes, say $900 for the year in this example, and pays a one-month deposit of $1,800. At move-in Dayo has $3,600 tied up but refundable under the lease; Halima has $1,800 refundable plus $900 spent. Over the year Halima's route costs $900 more but keeps $1,800 more cash in hand. Neither is better in general; it depends on your savings.

What to check first

  1. Ask whether the landlord rents to applicants with no US credit before paying an application fee.
  2. Get the full list of move-in charges in writing.
  3. Check the lease for how and when the deposit is returned, and keep your move-in photos.
  4. Beware listings that ask for a deposit by wire, gift card or crypto before a viewing.
  5. Pull your free credit reports at annualcreditreport.com once your first US account opens, so your next application is stronger.

For the general approach see renting with no credit history; for banking in the city, opening a bank account in Atlanta.

Building a stronger file for your next lease

Your first Atlanta lease is usually the hardest. By the time it ends, you can arrive at the next landlord with a US rental history, a reference from your current landlord and, if you started early, a credit file. Three habits help:

  • Pay rent on the same day each month by a traceable method, and keep the records. Some landlords and services report rent payments to credit bureaus; ask whether yours does.
  • Open one reporting credit product soon after arrival, such as a secured card. The CFPB notes typical secured card deposits of about $50 to $300 and stresses asking whether the issuer reports.
  • Keep your move-in photos and a copy of the signed lease, so your deposit comes back in full and you have a clean reference.

If you started with a guarantor company, a year of on-time rent and a growing credit file may let you renew without one. Ask the landlord a few months before the lease ends, so you are not paying for a second year of guarantee you no longer need.

Where Pryme fits

If your deposit is coming from naira savings, a Pryme Personal Account holds NGN and USD together; Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve a conversion. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities run through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I rent in Atlanta with no credit history?

Yes, with income proof, savings statements, a larger deposit, prepaid rent or a guarantor, depending on what the landlord accepts.

Do Atlanta apartments accept guarantor companies?

Some do and some do not. Ask the landlord which services it accepts before buying one.

Can I rent in Georgia without an SSN?

Some landlords will screen on a passport or accept an ITIN. Ask before paying an application fee.

Is an extra deposit refundable?

It should be, under the lease terms. Make sure the lease states the amount and how it is returned.
