Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Rent in Aba by area: Ogbor Hill, Osisioma, Ariaria, GRA

Example yearly rents for a self-contain, one-bed and two-bed flat across Aba's main areas, the fees added on top, and how to check before you pay.

The short answer

Rent in Aba is usually quoted per year and paid one or two years upfront, and it varies most with the area, the road and whether the building floods or has a prepaid meter. There is no official rent survey for Aba, so the ranges here are labelled examples; on top of rent, tenants usually pay agency and agreement fees and sometimes a caution deposit, which can add a large share to the first payment.

How renting in Aba works

Most landlords in Aba ask for a year's rent in advance, and some ask for two. Flats are advertised through agents, notice boards, word of mouth and online listings. A "self-contain" is a single room with its own toilet and kitchen space; a "room and parlour" adds a sitting room; flats are counted by bedrooms. Before you start, read how much rent you can afford on your salary.

What drives the price

  • Area and road access. Quieter residential areas and the GRA command more than streets next to busy markets.
  • Flooding. Some low-lying streets flood in the rains; rent may be lower, but repairs and lost days cost money. See what flooding costs renters in Aba.
  • Power. A building with prepaid meters for each flat avoids shared-bill disputes. Aba Power said in January 2025 that only 28% of its customers had meter access in 2024 (Prime Business Africa), so ask before you sign.
  • Water. A working borehole is a selling point; check whether the landlord charges extra for it.
  • Security and fence. Gated compounds cost more.

Example rents by area

The table below is a set of illustrative examples to help you compare, not quoted prices. Areas are described as they are commonly characterised; check the specific street yourself.

Area (common description)Self-contain, per yearOne-bed flat, per yearTwo-bed flat, per year
GRA (residential, quieter)₦350,000 to ₦600,000₦600,000 to ₦1,200,000₦900,000 to ₦2,000,000
Ogbor Hill (mixed, busy roads)₦200,000 to ₦400,000₦350,000 to ₦700,000₦500,000 to ₦1,000,000
Ariaria and market corridors₦180,000 to ₦350,000₦300,000 to ₦600,000₦450,000 to ₦900,000
Osisioma (expanding, more new builds)₦150,000 to ₦350,000₦300,000 to ₦600,000₦450,000 to ₦900,000

Fees added on top: a worked example

Apart from rent, tenants are commonly asked for an agency fee and an agreement (legal) fee, each often quoted as a percentage of the yearly rent, plus a refundable caution deposit for damage. These are negotiable and not set by any Abia rule we could find, so get them in writing.

Example: a one-bed flat in Ogbor Hill at ₦500,000 a year, with an agency fee of 10% (₦50,000), an agreement fee of 10% (₦50,000) and a caution deposit of ₦50,000, needs ₦650,000 on day one. If the landlord asks for two years, the rent rises to ₦1,000,000 and, if fees are charged on the two-year sum, they double to ₦100,000 each, making ₦1,250,000. Ask whether fees apply to one year or the whole payment.

Negotiating and spreading the cost

Rent is more negotiable than the first quote suggests, especially for a flat that has been empty for a while or a tenant willing to sign for longer. Points that often move a landlord:

  • Offering to pay promptly in full for one year rather than asking for a discount on two.
  • Agreeing to handle minor repairs yourself in exchange for a lower figure, written into the agreement.
  • Pointing to specific defects, such as a leaking roof or a shared meter, and asking for them to be fixed or priced in.
  • Asking whether the agency fee can be shared with the landlord, since the agent acts for both sides.

If you cannot raise a year's rent at once, start saving the moment you move in. Example: a ₦500,000 renewal due in 12 months needs about ₦41,700 a month (₦500,000 ÷ 12 = ₦41,666.67). Saving from the first month is far easier than finding ₦500,000 in the last one. Some landlords accept quarterly or half-yearly payments from tenants with a good record; ask, and get any arrangement in writing. Moving costs come on top, which moving house in Nigeria: the full cost lists.

Tax points for tenants

Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, an employee can claim rent relief of 20% of the rent paid, capped at ₦500,000 a year, which reduces taxable income (DLA Piper Africa, 28 August 2026); our guide to rent relief in Nigeria covers how to claim. The NRS has also clarified that rent, residential and commercial, is exempt from VAT (ThisDay, 16 February 2026), so a landlord should not add VAT to your rent. This is information, not tax advice.

What to check before you pay

  1. Visit at different times, including after rain, to see flooding and noise.
  2. Confirm the person collecting rent is the owner or has written authority; ask for the landlord's name and a phone number.
  3. Read the tenancy agreement: length, notice period, who repairs what, and whether service charges apply.
  4. Check the meter type and the last electricity bill.
  5. Pay by transfer to an account in the landlord's or agency's name and get a receipt.

Where Pryme fits

Landlords often ask for proof of income. Through our partnership with VerifyDoc.ai you can generate a verifiable statement or receipt from your Pryme account that the landlord can check has not been altered, and a verifiable receipt when you pay the rent. You can also put money aside for the next renewal in a Savings Box; rates are shown in the app.

Questions people ask

How much is a self-contain in Aba?

There is no official survey. As an example, a self-contain might range from about ₦150,000 a year in outer areas to ₦600,000 in the GRA; check the specific street.

Do landlords in Aba collect two years' rent?

Some do. Ask before you view, and check whether agency and agreement fees are charged on one year or on the whole payment.

Is there VAT on rent in Nigeria?

The NRS clarified in February 2026 that rent, residential and commercial, is exempt from VAT under the 2025 tax law, as reported by ThisDay.

Can I claim tax relief on my rent?

Employees can claim rent relief of 20% of rent paid, capped at ₦500,000 a year, under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.
