Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Remitting WHT deducted from Nigerian vendors on time

When withholding tax is due, which office gets it, what the vendor's receipt shows, and how an owner abroad keeps WHT on time.

The short answer

If your Nigerian company deducts withholding tax (WHT) from a vendor's payment, the 2024 WHT Regulations say it is remitted by the 21st of the following month to the Nigeria Revenue Service (company vendors) or by the 30th to the state revenue service (individual vendors), and you, the payer, issue the vendor a receipt. Under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, late remittance adds a 10% annual penalty plus interest at the CBN rate.

Withholding tax is a small line on each invoice and a large risk when it piles up. The business deducts it from what it pays suppliers, and from that moment the money belongs to the tax authority. When the owner lives abroad and the finance clerk in Nigeria changes, deducted WHT can sit in the bank for months. The penalties then fall on the company, and the vendor may complain that they cannot claim their credit.

The deadlines and who receives the money

The Deduction of Tax at Source (Withholding) Regulations 2024 took effect on 1 July 2024. PwC's summary of them and Danol Partners' review both give these remittance dates:

VendorRemit toBy
Company or other body corporateNigeria Revenue Service (NRS, formerly FIRS)21st of the month after deduction
Individual, sole trader or partnershipState revenue service where the vendor is resident30th of the month after deduction

Section 3 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 (NTAA) splits the work the same way: the NRS handles tax on companies, and state services handle tax on resident individuals. Section 107(1) of the NTAA sets the penalty for failing to remit tax deducted by the 21st day of the following month: the amount, plus a 10% annual penalty, plus interest at the CBN monetary policy rate. Section 105 sets a penalty of 40% of any amount you should have deducted and did not. To be safe, treat the 21st as the deadline for all WHT.

Rates to deduct

PwC's Nigeria tax summary (reviewed 29 May 2026) gives the main resident rates under the 2024 Regulations: 5% on professional, consultancy, technical, management and commission fees; 10% on rent; 2% on other services and on supply of goods by non-manufacturers. Non-resident professional fees are 10%. Small companies need not deduct where the transaction is under ₦2 million and the vendor has a valid tax ID. A vendor without a tax ID is deducted at twice the rate. Check whether new regulations under the 2025 Act have changed these before relying on them.

The receipt is your job

Under the 2024 Regulations the payer, not the tax office, issues the receipt for tax deducted. Danol Partners lists what it must show:

  • the vendor's name, address and tax ID;
  • the nature of the transaction;
  • the gross amount;
  • the amount deducted;
  • the month of deduction.

PwC notes two consequences. The vendor is entitled to the credit even if you did not remit. And a payer who issues receipts without remitting is liable for the tax plus interest and penalties. A receipt is therefore an admission that you hold the vendor's tax; issue it only alongside the remittance, and add the payment reference.

Doing it from abroad

The NRS launched its Rev360 portal on 30 April 2026 to replace TaxPro Max. Templars' client alert of 13 May 2026 says Rev360 brings registration, filing, payment and refunds into one place, uses Excel schedules completed offline and uploaded, and gives tax consultants role-based access without sharing credentials. CITN's May 2026 member advisory says NRS issued user guides with structured WHT templates. Two things follow for an absent owner:

  1. Keep the company login yourself. Give your accountant or tax agent their own role rather than your password.
  2. Separate the cash. Move each month's deducted WHT into a ring-fenced account on the day you pay the vendor, so it cannot be spent.
  3. Fix a monthly routine. By the 10th, the schedule of all vendor payments with WHT is prepared; by the 15th, you approve it; by the 20th, payment is made and receipts go to vendors.
  4. Reconcile quarterly. Compare WHT in the ledger with remittances on Rev360 and receipts sent. Any gap is either unremitted tax or a missing receipt.
  5. Check migrated balances. Templars advises checking WHT credits and other balances moved from TaxPro Max.

Worked example

Example only. In March your Lagos company pays a consulting firm a fee of ₦1,000,000 and an individual electrician ₦200,000 for a service. You deduct ₦50,000 (5%) from the firm and ₦4,000 (2%) from the electrician, paying them ₦950,000 and ₦196,000. The ₦50,000 goes to the NRS by 21 April and the ₦4,000 to the electrician's state service by 30 April, each with a receipt. If the ₦50,000 is paid three months late, the 10% annual penalty alone is about ₦1,250, before interest.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme Business Account, opened from any country, the Compliance agent can prepare the monthly WHT schedule from your vendor payments and the Finance agent can draft the receipts for you to approve. Verifiable receipts through VerifyDoc.ai let a vendor confirm a receipt is unaltered. Vendors who need their credit can read getting a WHT credit note; the wider deadlines are in the compliance calendar.

Questions people ask

When is withholding tax due in Nigeria?

Under the 2024 WHT Regulations, by the 21st of the following month to the NRS for company vendors, and by the 30th to the state revenue service for individual vendors. The 2025 Act runs penalties from the 21st.

Who issues the WHT receipt in Nigeria?

The payer that deducted the tax, not the tax office. It shows the vendor's name, address and tax ID, the nature of the transaction, the gross amount, the tax deducted and the month.

What is the penalty for late WHT remittance?

Under section 107 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, the tax plus a 10% annual penalty and interest at the CBN monetary policy rate. Failing to deduct carries a 40% penalty.

Can my accountant file WHT on Rev360 without my password?

Templars reports that Rev360 gives tax consultants role-based access without sharing credentials.
