Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Daily and monthly limits on apps that send to Nigeria

Why apps that send to Nigeria cap transfers by day and month, what the published limits say for named apps, and how limits rise as you verify.

The short answer

Apps that send to Nigeria set limits per transfer, per day and per month that depend on how far you have verified your identity, how you pay and where you send from. A few publish figures, such as Afriex's $3,000 a day or WorldRemit Ireland's €8,000 per 24 hours by card, but most show your own limit in the app and raise it after more checks.

You go to send school fees and the app says you have reached your limit. It is one of the most common frustrations for Nigerians abroad, and it rarely has anything to do with Nigeria. Limits are set by the sending firm, under rules in your country, and are tied to what the firm knows about you.

Why the limits exist

Money transfer firms must apply customer due diligence. The UK Money Laundering Regulations, regulation 28, require them to verify who you are, understand the purpose of transactions and keep monitoring, including source of funds where necessary. A firm that has checked only your name and date of birth knows less about you than one that has seen your payslips, so it lets you send less. Card schemes and your own bank add their own caps on top.

What named apps publish

Few apps publish a full limit table. These are what their own pages said when we checked in October 2026:

App (page)What the page says
Afriex (FAQ)Send up to $3,000 a day; contact hello@afriex.co to raise it
NALA (Nigeria page)Up to 5,000 daily in pounds, dollars or euros; varies by country, account type and purpose; custom limits available
WorldRemit (Ireland FAQ)Card payments €8,000 per 24 hours and per transaction; Trustly €20,000
Remitly (US limits page)Up to $300,000 as of August 2026, with personal limits often lower
Remitly (Ireland limits page)Up to €85,000 in one transaction; personal limit may be lower
Sendwave (UK to Nigeria page)Daily and monthly limits under My Limits in the app; may rise with account age
LemFi (help centre, 21 Oct 2026)Depends on verification level and account type; see Account Limits in your profile

These are ceilings, not promises. Remitly's pages say your own limit depends on verification level, payment method, destination and history. Check the figure in your app before a large payment.

How tiers rise

Most apps move you up in steps as you give more information. Remitly's US limits page lists what it may ask for: name, date of birth, address, passport or other government ID, Social Security number or ITIN, a utility bill, bank statements, pay stubs, occupation, source of income and reason for sending. Western Union UK says online customers verify their identity once they reach £800 sent, after which "your send limit will increase".

  1. Complete identity verification with a valid passport or national ID that matches your app profile.
  2. Add proof of address if the app asks.
  3. Provide income or source-of-funds evidence when you need higher limits; see why an app wants your payslip.
  4. Use the app regularly; Sendwave says limits may rise with account age.

Limits on your own side

The app's limit is not the only one. Your bank sets daily limits on card payments and on transfers out, and new payees can carry lower limits for the first days. Bank of Ireland, for example, caps app payments at €20,000 a day including fees and new payees at €10,000 per banking day. Card payments can also be capped by the card itself. When a payment fails after the app accepted it, the block is often at your bank, not the app.

Planning a large payment

An example: you need to pay ₦9,000,000 in school fees in January, and your app shows a limit that would cover only part of it. Raising the limit takes days, not minutes, because the firm needs documents and time to review them. Start in November or December:

  • Check your current limit in the app and ask what is needed to raise it for the amount you need.
  • Upload the documents the app asks for well before the deadline.
  • Ask the school whether it can accept payment in agreed instalments, each against its own invoice, rather than you breaking up one payment yourself.
  • Keep the invoice ready to attach as the purpose.

What not to do

Splitting one payment into several just under a threshold, or across apps and family members, can look like structuring. FINTRAC lists "structuring amounts to avoid client identification or reporting thresholds" among its indicators. It may lead to a review that takes longer than raising your limit would have. Why splitting transfers draws flags explains this further. For a one-off large sum, read source-of-funds proof for large transfers first.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme accounts can be opened from any country and hold NGN, USD, GBP and EUR. Limits on Send are shown in the app, together with the rate and the fee, before you approve. How Pryme works covers verification.

Questions people ask

How much can I send to Nigeria per day?

It depends on the app and your verification level. Afriex publishes $3,000 a day; most others show your personal limit in the app.

How do I increase my LemFi limit?

LemFi says limits follow your verification level and account type. Check Profile, then Profile details, then Account Limits, and use the upgrade option on the send page.

Why is my limit lower than the website says?

Published figures are maximums. Your limit depends on what the firm has verified, your payment method and your history.

Is it a problem to split a large transfer into smaller ones?

It can be treated as structuring and trigger a review. Raise your limit or ask the firm about a large one-off payment instead.
