Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Remitly Express or Economy to Nigeria: what changes

Remitly prices Express and Economy differently for Nigeria and ties the fastest speed to card payment. What changes, what is not stated, and how to choose.

The short answer

On Remitly, Express and Economy are two delivery speeds with different fees: Remitly's Nigeria pricing page showed Economy at $0 and Express at $3.99 as at October 2026, in a table headed USD to USDC. Remitly says Express with a debit or credit card is the fastest option where available; it does not publish exact delivery times, which the app shows before you pay. Paying by credit card can bring cash advance charges from your card issuer.

When you send from the US to Nigeria with Remitly, the app asks you to choose between Express and Economy. The choice changes the fee, the speed and, in practice, how you pay. This guide sets out what Remitly's own pages say as at October 2026, what they leave unstated, and how to decide for a given transfer.

What Remitly states

EconomyExpress
Fee on Nigeria pricing page$0$3.99
SpeedNot stated on the pages we read"For the fastest transfers", with a debit or credit card, where available
Payment methodNot stated on the pages we readDebit or credit card named
Delivery promiseOn time or Remitly refunds its feeOn time or Remitly refunds its fee

Two caveats on that fee row. The table on Remitly's Nigeria pricing page is headed "Fees for when you send from USD to USDC", while the same page says "enjoy no fees on all transfers" for USD to NGN. So read the fee the app shows for your own naira transfer rather than relying on either line. Remitly's Nigeria page also says delivery times vary with payment method, delivery method, transaction review and system availability.

How the funding method changes things

Remitly accepts Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards, Discover, prepaid cards and bank accounts from the US. It links its fastest speed to card payment. A card payment can be confirmed quickly; a payment drawn from a bank account generally takes longer to clear, which is why bank-funded transfers tend to sit in the slower option. Remitly does not publish the timing for each combination, so the app's delivery estimate is the figure to rely on.

Credit cards

Remitly's own guide to sending with a credit card, updated 27 August 2026, warns that card issuers "may classify certain money transfers as cash advances". That can mean a cash advance fee from your issuer, a higher interest rate and interest that may start immediately. Remitly itself calls a credit card a last resort and says debit or bank payment is often less expensive. Our guide to credit card cash advance fees explains how to check your card's terms.

The 1% remittance tax

Neither option triggers the US 1% remittance excise tax when you pay by bank account, debit card or US-issued credit card. That tax applies to transfers paid with cash, money orders, cashier's cheques and similar physical instruments.

What does not change

  • The payout. Your recipient still receives naira by the method you choose: bank deposit, mobile wallet, cash pickup or another listed option.
  • Your limits. Remitly's limits depend on verification, history, destination and delivery method, not on speed alone.
  • Your rights. Under the CFPB's remittance rule you get a disclosure before you pay and a receipt showing the date the money will be available, whichever speed you pick. Our guide to what a remittance receipt must show lists every line.

Worked example

Example only. Emeka in Dallas needs school fees paid in Enugu by Friday and it is Wednesday. He compares the two speeds in the app. Express with his debit card shows a $3.99 fee and an arrival estimate within the day; Economy from his checking account shows no fee and a later date. On a $600 transfer the Express fee is about 0.7% of the amount ($3.99 ÷ $600). He also compares the recipient amount on each screen, because the rate can differ as well as the fee. With a deadline, he pays the fee. For his monthly $200 to his mother, with no deadline, he uses Economy and schedules it a few days early.

How to choose

  1. Enter the exact amount and check both options in the app: fee, rate, recipient amount and delivery date.
  2. If there is a deadline, compare the delivery date, not just the fee.
  3. Pay by debit card or bank account rather than credit card unless you have checked your card's cash advance terms.
  4. Keep the receipt; if money arrives after the date shown, ask Remitly for the fee refund it promises.

When the fee is worth paying, and when it is not

A flat fee weighs more on a small transfer than on a large one. As an example, $3.99 is about 4% of a $100 transfer but about 0.4% of a $1,000 one. For a small, regular amount with no deadline, the slower option usually leaves more for your recipient. For a payment with a hard deadline, such as hospital bills, a school deadline or rent due today, the speed may be worth more than the fee. Remember that speed also depends on things the option cannot change: a recipient name that does not match the account, a first transfer that triggers an identity check, or a Nigerian bank's own processing can slow either option. If time is tight, send from an account that has already completed verification and check the recipient's details twice.

Our guides to how long Remitly takes and Remitly fees for Nigeria go into each in more depth.

Where Pryme fits

For paying people in Nigeria from your own naira, Pryme Send shows the fee before you approve. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners.
