Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Registering with a GP in the UK: what you need

You do not need ID, proof of address or proof of immigration status to register with a GP in England. How to register, timings and refusals.

The short answer

In England, registering with a GP surgery is free and you only need to give basic details: your name, date of birth and address. The NHS website says you do not need ID, proof of address, proof of immigration status or an NHS number. Registration is usually confirmed within 5 days of the surgery getting your details, and a surgery that refuses you must explain why in writing within 14 days.

What the NHS says you need

According to the NHS website (page reviewed 28 July 2025), you will be asked for:

  • your name, date of birth and address
  • the name and address of an emergency contact
  • your current GP's name and address, if you have one
  • your carer's details, if you have one

You do not need ID, proof of address or proof of immigration status. An NHS number makes it easier to find your records, but you do not need one to register. If you have no permanent address, you can use a temporary address or the surgery's address. Some surgeries ask for extra details, for example to transfer records or to confirm you are the parent of a child you are registering, but that is not a condition of registration for adults.

How to register

  1. Search for surgeries by postcode on the NHS website. Most people register near where they live.
  2. Choose one that offers online registration, or go in and fill in a paper form. You can also download the form and take it in.
  3. Fill in the form. The NHS says it takes about 15 minutes per person.
  4. Wait to be told you are registered, usually within 5 days of the surgery getting your details.

Once registered, you can create an NHS App account to book appointments and order repeat prescriptions. If you later move, the NHS App can be used to change surgery, and you do not need to tell the old surgery.

Registering children

Children under 16 are usually registered by a parent or guardian on a separate form. The NHS says you may need to be registered at the same surgery, may be asked for the child's proof of ID and address such as a birth certificate, and may be asked for ID to show you are the parent. Bring your child's immunisation records from Nigeria if you have them; the NHS mentions the 'red book' health record for children born in the UK, and any vaccination card from Nigeria serves a similar purpose for the nurse.

If a surgery says no

A surgery may refuse if it is not accepting new patients, if you live outside its area, or if you were removed from its list before. It must write to you within 14 days to explain. Asking for a passport, visa or tenancy as a condition of registering is not what the NHS guidance requires; you can point to the NHS page and ask again. If you still have problems, contact your local integrated care board (ICB), Citizens Advice or your local Healthwatch.

Temporary and out-of-area registration

  • Temporary patient: up to 3 months, using a temporary services form, and you can reapply. If temporary registration is refused, you can still receive any treatment you need immediately for up to 14 days.
  • Near work instead of home: some surgeries accept out-of-area patients. The NHS warns this can affect home visits, out-of-hours care and community services such as midwife appointments.

Before your first appointment

Registration and an appointment are different things. Once you are registered, book through the surgery's phone line, website or the NHS App. To make the first appointment useful, prepare a short summary of your health in Nigeria:

  • any long-term conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes or sickle cell, and when they were diagnosed
  • medicines you take, with the generic name, strength and dose (brand names in Nigeria may differ from UK brands)
  • allergies
  • past operations or hospital stays
  • vaccinations, including any certificates you used for travel

If you are running low on a regular medicine, say so when you book, so the GP can review and prescribe a UK equivalent before you run out. If you need help in a language other than English, ask the surgery what support it offers.

Do I pay to see a GP?

Registration is free. Most people on work, study or family visas have paid the Immigration Health Surcharge with their visa, which the Home Office says gives access to healthcare on broadly the same basis as permanent residents. NHS treatment is not a public fund, so a no recourse to public funds condition does not stop you using it. Prescriptions and dentistry have their own charges in England: see prescription charges and dental bands.

What to check first

  • Your UK address and postcode, even if temporary.
  • An emergency contact in the UK if possible.
  • Your medical history and any medicines from Nigeria, with names and doses written down.
  • Your children's vaccination records.

If you want to know whether the surcharge can be refunded in your situation, see IHS refunds.

Where Pryme fits

Many readers manage a parent's healthcare in Nigeria at the same time. Pryme lets you send money to family from the UK, and health insurance for parents in Nigeria covers the options at home.

Questions people ask

Do I need proof of address to register with a GP?

No. The NHS website says you do not need ID, proof of address or proof of immigration status in England.

Can a GP refuse to register me because of my visa?

The NHS says proof of immigration status is not needed. A surgery can refuse only for reasons such as a full list or living outside its area, and must explain in writing within 14 days.

How long does GP registration take?

Usually within 5 days of the surgery getting your details, per the NHS website.

Do I need an NHS number to register?

No. It helps find your records, but it is not required.
