Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to register a business in Calabar: CAC and Cross River tax ID

How to register a business from Calabar: CAC steps and official fees as at October 2026, getting a tax ID, CRIRS obligations and local permits.

The short answer

From Calabar you register a business online with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC): under CAC's fee schedule gazetted on 29 May 2025, a business name costs ₦1,000 to reserve and ₦20,000 to register, and a small private company costs ₦1,000 to reserve plus ₦10,000 for every ₦1 million of share capital. After registration you need a tax ID and should register with the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS), which says it is moving small traders onto a presumptive tax system.

You do not need to travel to Abuja or even to an office in Calabar to register a business. CAC registration is online, and so is most of what follows. What catches people out is the order of steps and the obligations that start the day the certificate is issued. This guide covers the CAC route, the official fees, tax registration and the local side in Calabar Municipality and Calabar South.

Business name or company?

A business name suits a sole trader or partnership: it is cheaper, with simpler filings, but the owner is personally liable for the business's debts. A private limited company is a separate legal person, which matters if you will sign contracts, borrow, bring in partners or tender for work. Under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020, one person can form a private company, and a small company does not need two directors or a company secretary.

Official CAC fees as at October 2026

These figures come from CAC's New Schedule of Fees, published in the Federal Government Gazette No. 92, Vol. 112, of 29 May 2025:

ItemBusiness nameSmall private company
Name reservation₦1,000₦1,000
Registration or incorporation₦20,000 (with certified copy of documents)₦10,000 per ₦1m of share capital or part
Annual return₦5,000₦5,000 (share capital ₦100,000 to ₦100m)
Post-registration filings₦5,000 each₦5,000 each
Status report–₦5,000

Agents and lawyers charge their own professional fees on top. You can file yourself on the CAC portal; using an accredited agent is optional.

Steps to register from Calabar

  1. Search the name on the CAC public search (basic information is free under the fee schedule) to see whether something similar exists.
  2. Create an account on the CAC registration portal and reserve your name.
  3. Complete the registration form: for a business name, the proprietor's details; for a company, directors, shareholders, persons with significant control and share capital.
  4. Upload a valid ID (NIN, driver's licence or international passport) and a passport photograph, and the signature of each person named.
  5. Pay online and submit. The certificate and status report are downloaded from the portal once approved.
  6. Note your RC number (companies) or BN number (business names). You must show your registered name on signage, letterheads and online pages.

Tax ID and CRIRS

Once registered, the business needs a tax ID so it can open a corporate account, file returns and invoice larger customers. Our guide to getting a tax ID for your business covers the current national process. Two points matter for Calabar businesses in particular:

  • Companies file a self-assessment return every year whether or not tax is due, under section 11 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025. Small companies (turnover below ₦100m and fixed assets below ₦250m) are exempt from company income tax and the development levy, per a January 2026 analysis on Mondaq, but the filing duty remains.
  • Business names and individuals deal with the state tax authority, CRIRS. At a sensitisation event in Calabar reported by Radio Nigeria (30 January 2026), CRIRS chairman Prince Edwin Okon said the state had introduced a presumptive tax system for small traders and artisans whose income is hard to determine. No rates were given; ask CRIRS how you will be assessed.

Every business must also keep books and records for at least six years after the year of assessment (section 31 of the same Act). Keep receipts for every tax and levy you pay.

Local permits in Calabar

Depending on where you trade, the council for Calabar Municipality or Calabar South, and sometimes a market authority, may ask for business premises, signage or market dues. We could not find an official published schedule for either council, so we do not quote amounts. Ask the council revenue office for the legal basis and an official receipt. CRIRS has said the state is working to harmonise taxes and reduce multiple levies, so keep a record of every demand you receive.

What to check first

  • The name is free on the CAC search and does not contain restricted words (which cost ₦5,000 to reserve).
  • Every person named has a NIN that matches their ID.
  • You know which structure suits you before paying: changing from a business name to a company later means a new registration.
  • You have a plan for the first annual return, due every year after registration.

Where Pryme fits

With your CAC documents you can open a Pryme Business Account from anywhere, with a Compliance agent that prepares filing reminders for you to approve (Compliance agent). For the tax side, see small business taxes in Calabar and CAC annual returns.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to register a business name in Nigeria in 2026?

Under CAC's schedule gazetted on 29 May 2025, ₦1,000 to reserve the name and ₦20,000 to register, so ₦21,000 in CAC fees, plus any agent fee if you use one.

Can I register CAC in Calabar myself?

Yes. Registration is online on the CAC portal and you can file yourself; accredited agents are optional.

How do I get a tax ID for my business in Cross River?

Follow the national tax ID process for your business and then register with CRIRS for state taxes. Our tax ID guide sets out the current steps.

Do small businesses pay tax in Calabar?

Small companies are exempt from company income tax but must still file. Traders and artisans deal with CRIRS, which says it uses a presumptive tax system; ask CRIRS how you will be assessed.
