Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to register a business in Uyo: CAC and Akwa Ibom tax ID

How to register a business in Uyo: CAC online steps and official fees, getting your Tax ID for AKIRS, and which local permits to ask about.

The short answer

You register a business from Uyo online with CAC, where the May 2025 fee schedule lists ₦1,000 to reserve a business name and ₦20,000 to register it. For tax, a Tax ID is generated from your NIN under the 2025 tax laws in force since 1 January 2026, and AKIRS handles state taxes such as personal income tax for sole traders. Local permits depend on your trade.

Registering a business in Uyo has two parts: registering the business itself with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), which is done online and is the same anywhere in Nigeria, and getting set up for tax, which since 2026 runs through a single national Tax ID used by both federal and state tax authorities, including the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS). Local permits then depend on your trade and location. This guide sets out each step and the official fees we could confirm.

Step 1: choose your structure

Business name
For a sole trader or partnership trading under a name. Cheapest and simplest; the owner is personally liable.
Private limited company
A separate legal person. More paperwork and annual filings, but the owners' liability is limited and some customers and banks prefer it.

Most small traders and service businesses in Uyo start with a business name and convert later. If you plan to raise investment or sign large contracts, a company is usually the better fit.

Step 2: register with CAC online

Registration is done on the CAC's online portal; you do not need to travel to an office for a standard registration. For a business name, the steps are: reserve the name, complete the registration form, upload a valid ID (NIN, driver's licence or international passport) and a passport photograph, pay and submit (Techeconomy, December 2025).

Official CAC fees for business names

The CAC's New Schedule of Fees, published in the Federal Government Gazette on 29 May 2025, lists these business name fees:

ServiceFee
Name reservation₦1,000
Name reservation with a restricted word₦5,000
Registration (with certified true copy of registration documents)₦20,000
Change of name₦10,000
Restriction of residential address₦25,000
Certified true copy, each₦5,000

A December 2025 guide reported a lower ₦10,000 registration fee and noted it may be waived under government schemes, so confirm the charge on the portal before you pay. We did not confirm company registration fees from the schedule; the portal calculates them from share capital.

A labelled example for a business name: ₦1,000 reservation plus ₦20,000 registration comes to ₦21,000, before any agent's fee if you use one.

Step 3: your Tax ID and AKIRS

From 1 January 2026, the Nigeria Tax Act and Nigeria Tax Administration Act took effect. AKIRS's executive chairman, Sir Okon Okon, said that from that date every Nigerian needs a Tax ID alongside the NIN, that it will be generated for anyone with a valid NIN, and that under section 8(2) of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act a Tax ID is required when seeking financial services (Nigeria Startup News, December 2025). The National Tax ID generated on the Rev360 platform is replacing the old TIN as the main taxpayer identifier (APM Terminals advisory, July 2026).

AKIRS assesses and collects state taxes, including personal income tax for sole traders and partners, issues tax clearance certificates and controls tax offices across the state (Akwa Ibom State Government profile of the Internal Revenue Service). Its profile page does not set out an online registration route, so confirm with an AKIRS office in Uyo how your business should be enrolled on the state's records once you have your Tax ID.

Step 4: local permits

Depending on your trade, you may also need permits from Uyo Local Government or state agencies, for example for signage, food handling or premises. The Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Act lists business premises registration among state levies, with caps of ₦10,000 to register and ₦5,000 to renew in urban areas, and signboard and advertisement permits among local government levies (PLAC text). Whether the 2025 tax laws have changed that list is not confirmed, so ask for the legal basis and an official receipt for any levy.

Steps in order

  1. Decide between a business name and a company.
  2. Check and reserve the name on the CAC portal.
  3. Register and pay on the portal; download your certificate.
  4. Confirm your Tax ID through your NIN, and check your AKIRS enrolment.
  5. Ask Uyo Local Government which permits your trade needs.
  6. Open a business bank account in the registered name.

After registration: keeping it in good standing

Registration is not a one-off. CAC expects annual returns from registered businesses, and the May 2025 schedule lists penalties for filing them late, so diarise the date your certificate was issued. Keep your certificate, the registration form and your owners' IDs together, because banks ask for them when you open a business account, and keep the business address on record current. If you change the name, the address or the owners, file the change with CAC rather than simply trading differently, so your records match what customers and tax officials see.

Where Pryme fits

Once registered, you can open a Pryme Business Account from your phone. It comes with agents for finance and compliance that prepare work, such as organising records for tax, for a person to approve. Read small business taxes in Uyo and tax on side income next.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to register a business name in Akwa Ibom?

CAC's schedule published 29 May 2025 lists ₦1,000 for name reservation and ₦20,000 for registration with certified copies. Confirm the current charge on the portal before paying.

Do I need to go to the CAC office in Uyo to register?

No, standard registration is done on the CAC online portal. You upload your ID and photograph and pay online.

How do I get a tax ID in Akwa Ibom?

From 1 January 2026, a Tax ID is generated for anyone with a valid NIN, according to AKIRS. Confirm with an AKIRS office how your business is enrolled on state records.

What permits do I need to open a shop in Uyo?

It depends on your trade. Ask Uyo Local Government and the relevant state agency, and pay only against an official receipt.
