Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Private school fees in Umuahia: nursery to secondary ranges

Example termly fee ranges for budget, mid-range and premium private schools in Umuahia, the extras on top, and what Abia public schools may charge.

The short answer

Private school fees in Umuahia vary widely by tier, and no body publishes them, so the ranges here are labelled examples: from roughly ₦30,000 a term at a budget nursery to ₦300,000 or more at a premium secondary school. Abia's public primary and junior secondary schools are free under the state's free education policy, and in April 2025 the state said senior secondary students pay a tuition fee of ₦3,300.

Why Umuahia fees are so spread out

Umuahia has many private nursery, primary and secondary schools, from small neighbourhood schools in converted houses to boarding colleges with large campuses. Fees depend on the building, class sizes, teacher pay, whether the school runs a bus and boarding, and the families it serves. No government body in Abia publishes private school fee data, so the only reliable figure is the one in a school's own fee schedule. What follows is a framework to help you compare.

Example fee ranges by tier

The ranges below are labelled examples of tuition per term, before extras, based on how schools in a state capital of Umuahia's size are commonly priced. Use them to place a school, then ask for its written schedule.

Tier (example)NurseryPrimaryJunior secondarySenior secondary
Budget neighbourhood school₦30,000 to ₦50,000₦35,000 to ₦60,000₦50,000 to ₦80,000₦60,000 to ₦90,000
Mid-range day school₦60,000 to ₦120,000₦70,000 to ₦140,000₦100,000 to ₦180,000₦120,000 to ₦200,000
Premium day or boarding₦150,000 to ₦300,000₦180,000 to ₦350,000₦250,000 to ₦450,000 (boarding higher)₦300,000 to ₦500,000 (boarding higher)

The extras that push the bill up

Tuition is often less than half of what a family pays in the first term of a new session. Ask for every item in writing:

  • Registration or admission form and entrance test fees for new pupils.
  • Uniforms, sportswear, sandals and bags, often sold only by the school.
  • Textbooks and exercise books, which change each year at some schools.
  • PTA levy, development levy and examination fees.
  • School bus, lunch and after-school lessons.
  • For boarders: boarding fee, provisions and a caution deposit.
  • External examination fees for final-year pupils, which the school collects and passes on.

Our guide to back-to-school costs breaks these down further.

What Abia public schools charge

Abia runs a free and compulsory education policy. In April 2025 the state government said it covers public primary and junior secondary schools, that students in state-owned senior secondary schools would pay a tuition fee of ₦3,300, and that head teachers and principals who collect unauthorised fees or levies face sanctions up to dismissal. In May 2025 Governor Otti described the policy as covering "all basic and secondary schools". Because the two statements differ on senior secondary, ask the school or the Ministry of Education for the current position before paying anything at senior level, and ask for an official receipt for any payment.

The state also says it has recruited more than 5,300 teachers and plans 20 "smart schools" in a first phase. Families weighing public against private should visit the specific school, because quality differs between schools in both sectors.

Public or private: comparing the full cost

A free public school is not cost-free for a family. Uniforms, sandals, books, transport and lunch still have to be paid for, and some parents pay for extra lessons. Even so, the gap is large. In our example below, two children at a mid-range private school cost about ₦900,000 a year; the same two children in public primary and junior secondary school might cost the family a fraction of that in uniforms, books and transport. Many Umuahia families mix the two, keeping younger children in a nearby private nursery and moving older ones to a public or mission secondary school.

Worked example: two children for a year

An example family in Umuahia has one child in primary 3 and one in JSS 1 at the same mid-range day school. Tuition is ₦100,000 and ₦140,000 per term. Extras in the first term are ₦60,000 per child (uniforms, books, levies), and ₦15,000 per child in each of the next two terms.

Item (example)Amount
Tuition, three terms: (₦100,000 + ₦140,000) × 3₦720,000
First-term extras: ₦60,000 × 2₦120,000
Second and third-term extras: ₦15,000 × 2 children × 2 terms₦60,000
Total for the year₦900,000

Check: ₦720,000 + ₦120,000 + ₦60,000 = ₦900,000, or ₦75,000 a month if saved evenly over 12 months.

Questions to ask before you pay

  1. Is the fee per term or per session, and does it rise next session?
  2. Which items are compulsory, and can uniforms and books be bought elsewhere?
  3. Does the school accept payment in instalments, and is there a charge for that?
  4. What is the refund rule if a child leaves mid-term?
  5. Will the school issue a receipt in the child's name for every payment?

Paying safely

Pay into an account in the school's registered name, not a staff member's personal account, unless the school confirms it in writing. Keep every receipt for the session; schools sometimes lose records when bursars change, and a receipt settles the matter quickly. If a school asks for cash only, ask why and request a signed receipt on the school's letterhead.

For spreading the cost, see paying school fees in instalments and our term-by-term saving plan.

Where Pryme fits

A Naira Savings Box lets you set aside the monthly amount towards each term, with the rate shown in the app. When you pay, you can generate a verifiable receipt through VerifyDoc.ai that the school or anyone else can check (receipts).

Questions people ask

How much is school fees in Umuahia private schools?

It varies by tier. As labelled examples, budget schools may charge ₦30,000 to ₦60,000 a term at nursery and primary, mid-range schools ₦60,000 to ₦200,000, and premium schools ₦150,000 to ₦500,000 or more. Always ask for the written schedule.

Are Abia public schools free?

Public primary and junior secondary schools are free under Abia's free education policy. In April 2025 the state said senior secondary students pay ₦3,300 tuition, though the governor later described the policy as covering secondary schools too, so confirm with the school.
