Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Business

Poultry records: mortality, feed and egg sales

The daily poultry records that show whether a flock makes money: bird count, feed bags, eggs, sales and margin per crate, with a worked example.

The short answer

A poultry farm needs one daily sheet per pen covering bird count and deaths, feed bags opened, eggs collected and cracked, and crates sold with the money received. From that sheet you can work out lay rate, feed cost per crate and margin each week. Nigerian tax law also requires every business to keep records that support its tax position for at least six years.

Why poultry records matter more than in most businesses

Poultry is a business of small daily numbers that compound. Five dead birds a week, ten cracked eggs a day or two bags of feed that go missing each month do not look serious on any single morning, but over a laying cycle they decide whether the flock pays for itself. Without a written record, the first sign of trouble is usually an empty account when the next feed delivery is due.

Feed is the cost that matters most. The Poultry Association of Nigeria's Ogun vice chairman told The Guardian in February 2026 that feed makes up 65 to 70 per cent of input costs, and quoted layer feed at ₦15,000 to ₦17,000 per 25kg bag at the time. Prices move, so record what you actually paid on each invoice rather than relying on any published figure.

The daily sheet: what to write down every day

Keep one sheet (paper or spreadsheet) per pen or batch, filled in by the same person at the same time each day. These columns cover what you need:

ColumnWhat to recordWhy
Opening birdsLive birds at start of dayBase for every rate you calculate
DeathsNumber found dead, with a short note on signs seenSpots disease early; supports any insurance or vet claim
Culls and sales of birdsBirds removed or sold, and priceKeeps the count honest and records spent-hen income
Closing birdsOpening minus deaths, culls and salesMust match a physical count once a week
FeedBags opened, type of feed, batch or supplierFeed cost per crate and theft control
Eggs collectedTotal eggs, and cracked or dirty eggs separatelyLay rate and breakage
Crates soldCrates, buyer, price, paid by cash or transferLinks production to money in the bank
Medication and vaccinesProduct, dose, dateWithdrawal periods and vet history

Write deaths down the same day. Birds that are buried before anyone counts them are the most common reason a farm's closing count drifts away from reality.

The three numbers to work out each week

Mortality rate

Divide deaths in the week by the bird count at the start of the week. Track it as a running total for the flock too. A sudden jump is a reason to call a vet, not a figure to explain away at the end of the month.

Lay rate (hen-day production)

Divide eggs collected in the week by the number of hen-days (live birds multiplied by seven). A falling lay rate with steady feed use means you are paying for feed that is not turning into eggs.

Feed cost per crate and margin per crate

Divide the cost of feed opened in the week by crates produced. Then take total weekly costs from total egg sales to get the weekly margin, and divide by crates for margin per crate.

Worked example: one week for a 1,000-layer pen

Birds
1,000 at start of week; 4 deaths; 996 at end (weekly mortality 0.4%)
Eggs
5,600 collected; 20 cracked; 5,580 saleable = 186 crates of 30
Lay rate
5,600 ÷ 7,000 hen-days = 80%
Feed
35 bags at ₦16,000 = ₦560,000
Other costs
Labour ₦60,000, drugs and vaccines ₦25,000, power and fuel ₦30,000 = ₦115,000
Total costs
₦560,000 + ₦115,000 = ₦675,000
Sales
186 crates at ₦5,500 = ₦1,023,000
Weekly margin
₦1,023,000 − ₦675,000 = ₦348,000
Per crate
Feed ₦3,011; margin about ₦1,871

In this example feed is about 83 per cent of weekly costs, higher than the 65 to 70 per cent the association quoted, because the week leaves out the cost of buying the birds and of housing. A full picture spreads the cost of point-of-lay pullets and pens over the laying cycle. The farm-gate price used is in the range Nairametrics reported in March 2026 (about ₦5,500 a crate); use the price your buyers actually paid.

Sales, credit and cash: closing the loop

Many egg buyers take crates on credit and pay at the end of the week. Record each credit sale by buyer and date, and tick it off when paid. Every Friday, compare three totals: crates produced, crates sold or in store, and money received plus money owed. If those do not reconcile, the gap is either breakage you did not record, stock taken without a record, or a debt you have forgotten.

  • Ask buyers to pay by transfer where possible, so each payment has a reference you can match.
  • Give every buyer a receipt, even for cash, and keep a copy.
  • Keep feed invoices and delivery notes with the date bags were opened.
  • Count birds physically once a week and correct the sheet if needed, with a note.

These records are not only for management. Under section 31 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, every person, including those who are exempt, must keep books and records with enough information to work out their tax position, for not less than six years after the year of assessment. A farm that can show its feed invoices and sales record is in a far better position if a state tax officer asks questions. For a wider system, see our guide to bookkeeping for small businesses and how to work out cost of goods sold.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account keeps buyer transfers in one place, and the Finance agent can prepare the weekly reconciliation of sales against payments for you to check; a person approves anything above the ceiling you set. If a large buyer wants proof of payment, you can issue a verifiable receipt through VerifyDoc.ai, explained on our receipts page.

What to check first

  1. Does your closing bird count match a physical count this week?
  2. Do you know how many crates last week's feed bought you?
  3. Is every credit sale written against a named buyer?
  4. Are feed invoices filed where you can find them in six years' time?

Questions people ask

What records should a poultry farmer keep in Nigeria?

A daily sheet per pen with bird count, deaths, feed bags opened, eggs collected and cracked, and crates sold with payment details, plus feed invoices and vet records. Tax law requires records that support your tax position to be kept for at least six years.

How do I calculate lay rate for my layers?

Divide eggs collected in a period by hen-days, which is the number of live birds multiplied by the number of days. 5,600 eggs from 1,000 birds over seven days is 80 per cent.

What is a normal mortality rate for layers?

It varies with breed, age and management, so use your own records and your vet's advice. What matters is tracking it weekly and acting quickly on any sudden rise.

How much of poultry cost is feed?

The Poultry Association of Nigeria's Ogun vice chairman put feed at 65 to 70 per cent of input costs in February 2026. Your own invoices give your real share.
