Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

POS business in Owerri: locations, float and daily profit maths

What it takes to run a POS stand in Owerri: getting a terminal, CBN cash-out limits, how much float you need and a worked daily-profit example.

The short answer

A POS agent business in Owerri needs a terminal from a bank or licensed provider, a visible location and enough cash and wallet float to meet withdrawals. CBN rules from December 2024, as reported by Techeconomy, cap cash-out at ₦100,000 per customer per day and ₦1.2 million per agent per day. Profit is your charge per withdrawal minus the provider's fee, and it is easily wiped out by one fake transfer.

How a POS stand makes money

A POS agent sells cash and convenience. A customer pays with a card or transfers into your wallet, you hand over cash, and you keep a charge. You also earn commissions from the provider on transfers, bill payments and account openings, depending on the scheme. The business works where cash is still needed and bank branches or ATMs are far, busy or out of cash.

In Owerri, agents tend to cluster where people move and spend: around markets, motor parks, junctions on busy roads, campus gates at Ihiagwa, Nekede and the IMSU axis, and residential estates where the nearest ATM is a keke ride away. These are commonly reported patterns rather than measured data; walk the area at different times before you commit to a spot. Our piece on the best areas to open a shop in Owerri looks at footfall and rent.

Getting a terminal

Banks and licensed operators run agent networks with their own terms. What two banks' pages said in October 2026:

SchemeWhat the page says
FirstBank FirstmoniePOS device free of charge; free branding; commission on accounts opened; working capital support subject to terms
UBA MoniNeeds a verifiable business location, a CAC-registered business account and valid ID; terminals free of charge; customer fees from ₦100 listed

Other providers have their own conditions, caution deposits or rental fees; read the agreement and ask what the provider charges you per withdrawal, because that is your main cost. If the scheme requires a CAC registration, see registering a business in Owerri.

The CBN cash-out limits

A CBN circular of 17 December 2024, summarised by Techeconomy, set these limits for PoS agents:

  • ₦100,000 cash-out per customer per day
  • ₦500,000 cash-out per customer per week
  • ₦1.2 million total cash-out per agent per day
  • Agents to operate float accounts with their principal (the bank or provider), with transactions reported daily to NIBSS

These caps shape your float. You never need more than ₦1.2 million of cash for withdrawals in one day, and a single customer cannot take more than ₦100,000 from you that day.

Worked example: one day's profit (illustrative)

The figures below are examples to show the arithmetic, not market rates. Agents in Owerri set their own charges, and providers' fees vary.

ItemExample figure
Withdrawals served50
Average withdrawal₦8,000
Cash paid out (50 x ₦8,000)₦400,000
Your charge per withdrawal (example)₦200
Gross charges (50 x ₦200)₦10,000
Provider fee per withdrawal (example)₦40
Provider fees (50 x ₦40)₦2,000
Transfer and bill commissions (example)₦1,500
Day's margin before overheads₦9,500

Now take off daily overheads. If the umbrella and table space cost ₦1,000 a day, data and phone ₦500 and an assistant ₦3,000, the day nets ₦9,500 - ₦4,500 = ₦5,000. Over 26 trading days that is ₦130,000 a month in this example, before any loss from fraud or counterfeit notes. For context, Nairametrics reported Imo State's minimum wage at ₦104,000 as at 30 April 2026.

How much float you need

In the example you paid out ₦400,000 in cash. Customers' payments landed in your wallet, so by evening your cash fell while your e-float rose. To start the next day you must turn that e-float back into cash, usually by withdrawing at a bank or buying cash from a trader. A safe opening position is the cash you expect to pay out in a full day plus a buffer, here roughly ₦450,000 to ₦500,000, plus a wallet balance for customers who want to deposit or transfer.

Keeping the books

Most POS stands that fail do so because the owner loses track, not because there were no customers. Keep three numbers every evening: cash in hand, wallet balance and total charges earned. Cash plus wallet should equal the morning's opening position plus the day's charges and commissions, minus anything you took out for yourself. If it does not, find the gap that night while you still remember the customers. Keep the business float in an account separate from household money, and pay yourself a fixed sum rather than dipping into the float. Note the number of withdrawals per hour as well: after two or three weeks you will know which hours justify an assistant and which do not, and whether your spot is worth the rent.

Fraud risks specific to POS

  • Fake transfer alerts: never pay cash until the credit shows in your wallet or app, not on the customer's phone screen.
  • Reversals: a disputed card transaction can be pulled back; keep the slip and a record of the customer's name and number.
  • Counterfeit or mutilated notes: check notes when receiving deposits.
  • Robbery: avoid displaying cash, and move excess cash during the day.
  • Terminal swaps: keep the terminal on you and record its serial number.

Our guides on POS fraud and common scams in Owerri go further.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account keeps your POS takings separate from household money, with a Finance agent that prepares daily reconciliations for you to approve. It also offers bank-transfer checkout free of charge for customers who prefer to pay by transfer.

Questions people ask

How much do I need to start a POS business in Owerri?

Enough cash float for a day's withdrawals plus any terminal or caution fee your provider charges. Under the CBN caps, an agent cannot pay out more than ₦1.2 million in a day, so float need not exceed that.

What is the maximum POS withdrawal per day?

A CBN circular of December 2024, as reported by Techeconomy, set ₦100,000 per customer per day and ₦500,000 per customer per week for PoS agent cash-out.

How much do POS agents make daily in Owerri?

It depends on volume and charges. In our illustrative example, 50 withdrawals at a ₦200 charge net about ₦5,000 a day after provider fees and overheads.

Which bank gives free POS machine?

FirstBank's Firstmonie and UBA Moni pages both say their agent terminals are free of charge, subject to each scheme's requirements.
