Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Make money

Adding bills, airtime and data to a POS stand

How airtime, data, cable TV and electricity token sales earn money on a POS terminal, the CBN bill limits, and a labelled example of the margin.

The short answer

Most agent principals let you sell airtime, data, cable TV renewals and prepaid electricity tokens from the same terminal or app, earning a commission or discount on each sale. Margins are small per sale, so bills add income mainly by bringing customers to the stand. Under the CBN's 2025 rules bill payments are capped at ₦100,000 per customer per day, and you should get your principal's commission table in writing.

What you can sell from a terminal

The CBN's October 2025 Guidelines for the Operations of Agent Banking list bill payments among the services an agent may offer. Most principals add airtime and data top-ups on the same menu. In practice the lines worth offering are:

  • Airtime for MTN, Airtel, Glo and T2 (formerly 9mobile);
  • Data bundles, which networks also sell through their own vending channels: MTN's data page lists TopIt/VTU among its channels;
  • Cable TV renewals such as DStv, GOtv and StarTimes;
  • Prepaid electricity tokens: Eko Electricity's payment-channels page, for example, lists agent networks including Paga and PalmPay among its vendors;
  • Other bills your principal supports, such as water or internet subscriptions.

How the money works

There are two common models, and your principal decides which applies to each service:

Commission or discount
You pay slightly less than face value for the airtime, data or token and sell at face value. The difference is your earning.
Convenience fee
The customer pays face value plus a small fee, part of which goes to you.
Flat agent fee
You add your own small charge on top. Under the CBN guidelines, any charge you apply must be displayed at your stand.

We could not find a published commission table for airtime, data or bills on the agent pages of Paga, Firstmonie, UBA Moni or Moniepoint that we checked in October 2026. Rates differ by network and by biller and change often, so ask your principal for the current table and check it in the app before you set your prices.

The limits that apply

RuleWhat it says (CBN, Oct 2025)
Bill payments per customer per day₦100,000
Bill payments per customer per week₦100,000
SignageYour charges must be displayed
ReceiptsA receipt for every transaction

The weekly bill limit equals the daily one, so a customer who pays a large electricity bill on Monday cannot pay another through an agent that week.

A labelled worked example

Example only. The commission rates below are assumptions to show the arithmetic, not any provider's rates.

LineDaily sales (example)Assumed marginDaily earning
Airtime₦30,0002%₦600
Data bundles₦20,0002%₦400
Cable TV renewals₦40,000 (4 renewals)₦50 flat each₦200
Electricity tokens₦50,000 (5 vends)₦50 flat each₦250
Total₦140,000₦1,450

Check: 2% of ₦30,000 is ₦600 and 2% of ₦20,000 is ₦400; four renewals at ₦50 make ₦200 and five vends at ₦50 make ₦250; together ₦1,450. Over 26 trading days that would be ₦37,700. The bigger value is often indirect: a customer who comes for a token also withdraws cash.

Setting your own prices

Where your principal lets you add a charge, set it with the street in mind. Customers compare: if every agent at the junction sells airtime at face value, a surcharge on small top-ups will send people elsewhere, and you lose the withdrawal that might have followed. A common approach is to sell airtime and data at face value, earn only the principal's commission, and add a small fee on services that save the customer a trip, such as a cable TV renewal or an electricity token late in the evening. Whatever you charge, write it on your price board: the CBN guidelines require agents to display applicable charges, and a clear board also cuts arguments.

Mistakes that cost money

  • Selling on credit to regulars: small debts add up fast and come out of your margin.
  • Vending to the wrong meter or smartcard: confirm the number back to the customer before paying.
  • Running out of e-float at the evening rush, when token and data demand often peaks.
  • Not checking the token went through before the customer leaves; ask them to load it while still at the stand where possible.
  • Keeping no record of bill sales, so commission paid by the principal cannot be checked.

Practical points

  1. Keep enough e-float for bills: every sale is paid from your wallet, and customers pay you in cash or by transfer.
  2. Confirm the meter number, smartcard number or phone number back to the customer before you pay; a wrong number is hard to reverse.
  3. Print or send the token and the receipt every time.
  4. For electricity, show the customer the token units and amount on the receipt so they can check them.
  5. Note each bill sale on your daily sheet; small sales are easy to lose track of.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is not an agent banking principal and does not supply POS terminals. For the stand's own costs, a Pryme account lets you buy airtime and data, electricity tokens and cable TV in the app, which keeps business running costs out of your agent wallet.

Questions people ask

How much do POS agents make on airtime?

It depends on your principal's commission table, which varies by network. We found no published rates on the agent pages we checked, so ask your principal and check the app.

Can I sell electricity tokens with my POS?

Usually yes, if your principal offers it. DisCos list agent networks as vendors; Eko Electricity's channel page includes Paga and PalmPay, for example.

What is the maximum bill payment through a POS agent?

Under the CBN's October 2025 guidelines, ₦100,000 per customer per day and ₦100,000 per week.

Is selling data on POS profitable?

Margins per sale are small; the value is regular customers who also withdraw or transfer. Work out your margin from your principal's table.
