Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Threatened by a loan app: when and how to involve the police

Which loan app threats may be crimes, where to report them in Nigeria, what to bring to the police station and how to report to the FCCPC and NDPC too.

The short answer

Owing a loan app is a civil matter, but threats of violence, extortion and publishing false claims about you may be crimes, so report those to your nearest police station and ask about its cybercrime desk. Bring screenshots, call logs and a written timeline, and report the lender to the FCCPC and NDPC as well.

Debt is civil; threats can be criminal

Two things are true at once. Owing a loan app money is a civil matter, so the police have no role in collecting it and you cannot be arrested for not paying. But some of the things collectors do to get paid can be crimes in their own right, and those are a matter for the police. Knowing which is which keeps you from either ignoring a real danger or being frightened by an empty threat.

What happenedUsually a police matter? Also report to
A threat to harm you or your familyYes, report promptlyFCCPC
A demand for money with a threat to publish something unless you pay beyond what you oweYes, it may amount to extortionFCCPC, NDPC

Repeated abusive calls and messagesIt may be, depending on contentFCCPC
Messages to your contacts saying you oweMainly a data protection and lending conduct matterNDPC, FCCPC
A caller saying "the police will arrest you"No crime by you; note it as intimidationFCCPC

Whether a particular message is an offence is for the police and, eventually, a court to decide. This article is information, not legal advice. If you are in immediate danger, go to the nearest police station or call emergency services.

Which police unit to approach

Start at your nearest police station and ask to make a formal complaint. Because these threats arrive by phone, SMS, WhatsApp and social media, ask whether your case should go to the cybercrime desk at the state command, since the Nigeria Police Force has cybercrime units that handle offences committed online. The NDPC says it works with the Nigeria Police Force, among other agencies, in protecting data subjects' privacy rights, so a parallel NDPC complaint does not compete with a police report.

Making a report should not cost you a fee. If anyone at the station asks for money to take your statement, note their name and number.

What to bring

  1. A valid ID.
  2. Printed or saved screenshots of every threatening message, showing the sender's number or account, date and time.
  3. Call logs listing the numbers that called you, with times; any recorded calls or voice notes.
  4. Screenshots from contacts who received messages about you.
  5. The app's name, its developer name on the app store, and your loan details.
  6. A one-page written timeline: when you borrowed, what you owe, when the threats started, what was said.

Ask for a copy or extract of your statement and the case or report number. You will need it for any follow-up and it strengthens complaints to regulators. See evidence to gather against loan app harassment for more on preserving messages.

Report to the regulators as well

  • FCCPC: lender conduct and recovery practices. The 2025 digital lending Regulations name lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng for consumer complaints (Regulation 26(2)); the FCCPC also runs complaints.fccpc.gov.ng. It can suspend or delist approved lenders and impose penalties of up to ₦100 million or 1% of turnover for a company (Regulation 27). It resumed enforcing these Regulations on 20 July 2026.
  • NDPC: misuse of your personal data or your contacts' data; info@ndpc.gov.ng or +234 (0) 916 061 5551. See how to report a loan app to the NDPC.
  • App store: a report to Google Play for policy breaches; see reporting a loan app on Google Play.

If the police are used against you

Some collectors claim to have "a police case" or send people who say they are officers. A genuine police invitation names the station and the officer and can be checked by calling the station directly. You can ask for identification. If you are invited, you may go with a lawyer. Remember the starting point: not repaying a loan is not, by itself, a crime. Our guide can a loan app arrest you? covers this in detail.

Protect yourself while the case runs

  • Do not reply to threats with threats or insults; it muddies your complaint.
  • Do not delete the app or the chats until you have saved copies somewhere safe, such as email to yourself.
  • Revoke the app's contacts and storage permissions in your phone settings; see how to revoke a loan app's contacts permission.
  • Tell a trusted person what is happening and share the case number with them.
  • If a threat names a place or time, tell the officer handling your case straight away and avoid that place.

Keep the debt separate

A police report deals with threats; it does not cancel the loan. If you owe money, put a written repayment offer to the lender through its official channel, so your own conduct is on record as reasonable. Check that the lender is on the FCCPC approvals register, because impersonators use the same threats.

Questions people ask

Can I report a loan app to the police in Nigeria?

Yes, if you have received threats of harm, extortion demands or similar. Go to the nearest station with screenshots and call logs and ask about the cybercrime desk at the state command.

Can a loan app use the police to arrest me?

Unpaid debt is a civil matter, so you should not be arrested for owing money. Verify any police invitation by calling the named station directly.

Do I pay to file a police report?

Making a report should not cost you anything. Note the name of anyone who asks for money.

Should I also report the loan app to the FCCPC?

Yes. The FCCPC handles lender conduct (lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng) and the NDPC handles data misuse. A police report and regulator complaints can run together.
