Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

PiggyVest Safelock vs Flex Naira: which one for what

Flex Naira is the withdrawable wallet; Safelock locks money until a date you choose. The rules for each, and which goals suit which.

The short answer

Flex Naira is PiggyVest’s withdrawable wallet: withdrawals are free, from ₦2,000, once every 10 hours, with interest paid monthly. Safelock locks between ₦1,000 and ₦100m until a date you set for a higher, duration-based rate; upfront-interest locks cannot be broken, and interest-at-maturity locks can only be broken from day 91 by giving up the interest.

The two products answer opposite needs. Flex Naira is for money you may need at short notice. Safelock is for money you have decided not to touch. Picking the wrong one is the commonest cause of frustration on PiggyVest: people lock money they later need, or leave long-term savings in Flex where it is too easy to spend. The rules below come from PiggyVest’s FAQ, read in October 2026.

Side by side

Flex NairaSafelock
AccessWithdraw any time, once per 10 hoursLocked until the date you set
Minimum₦2,000 per withdrawal₦1,000 per lock
MaximumNo cap stated; ₦3m+ withdrawals take about 3 working hours on weekdays₦100m per lock
InterestAccrues daily, paid on the 1st of each monthBy lock length; upfront or at maturity
Breaking earlyNot applicableUpfront: no. At maturity: from day 91, losing accrued interest
Top-upsAny timeOnly on locks over 90 days, only from the Piggybank wallet
Where money goes afterYour bank or PocketBack to Flex Naira at maturity

How Flex Naira behaves

Flex Naira works like a current account that earns interest. You fund it by bank transfer to its account number, by card, or from other PiggyVest products. Withdrawals are free and, per the FAQ, usually arrive in minutes; PiggyVest’s terms set the outer expectation, saying transfers to a bank or Pocket are generally made within two business days. The catch is a usage condition: the FAQ says that more than four withdrawals to a bank, or more than six to Pocket, in a month forfeits that month’s Flex interest. Flex is built for occasional access, not daily spending.

How Safelock behaves

Safelock is a commitment device. You pick an amount and an end date, see the rate, and choose whether interest is paid upfront or at maturity. As at October 2026 the FAQ gives a range from 14% a year for 10 to 30 days up to 21% a year for locks over two years, prorated to your period; these rates change, and the create screen shows the current one. Locks over 365 days pay interest at maturity.

Upfront or at maturity?

Upfront interest lands in your account as soon as you lock, but the FAQ says such locks can only be withdrawn at maturity. Interest-at-maturity locks pay everything at the end and allow an early break from day 91, at the cost of the accrued interest. If there is any chance you will need the money, the at-maturity option keeps a door open.

Worked example: same ₦500,000, two choices

Example only, using illustrative rates rather than today’s. Amaka has ₦500,000 she will not need for six months, plus a ₦150,000 cushion for emergencies.

  • If Flex paid 10% a year, ₦500,000 left there for 182 days would earn about ₦500,000 × 10% × 182 ÷ 365 = ₦24,932, provided she kept within the monthly withdrawal limits.
  • If a 182-day Safelock paid 16% a year, the same sum would earn about ₦500,000 × 16% × 182 ÷ 365 = ₦39,890, but she could not reach it if paid upfront.
  • The gap in this example is about ₦14,958. The question is whether that is worth giving up access.

Her sensible split is the cushion in Flex and the rest in Safelock. The amounts are examples; run your own figures with the rates in the app.

Mistakes that cost people money

  1. Locking the emergency fund. An upfront Safelock cannot be broken, so money for a hospital bill or a car repair should never go there.
  2. Treating Flex as a spending account. The fifth bank withdrawal in a month quietly cancels that month’s Flex interest.
  3. Moving Piggybank money to Flex to dodge the free-date rule. The FAQ counts a Piggybank-to-Flex move as a withdrawal, so the 3.5% charge applies outside free dates.
  4. Choosing an end date that falls after the bill. Matured money lands in Flex, then still has to reach your bank; leave a few days of margin.
  5. Comparing rates of different lengths. A two-year rate and a one-month rate are not the same product.

Which one for which goal

  • Emergency fund: Flex Naira, because the point is speed. See how big an emergency fund should be.
  • Rent due on a known date: Safelock ending a week before the due date, with interest at maturity.
  • School fees each term: a Safelock per term, or a Target if you are building up gradually; see how Targets work.
  • Money you keep dipping into: Safelock with upfront interest, precisely because you cannot break it.
  • Holding cash between investments: Flex, so you can move it when the next opportunity comes.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme’s Naira Savings Boxes follow a similar split: a Flexible Box for money you can reach and a Fixed Box for money you lock, with rates shown in the app before you commit. Our piece on whether locked savings stop you spending covers the habit side of the choice.

Questions people ask

Can I break my Safelock before the due date?

Only if you chose interest at maturity, and only from day 91, losing the accrued interest. Upfront-interest locks can only be withdrawn at maturity, according to the FAQ.

Is Flex Naira withdrawal free?

Yes. The FAQ says Flex Naira withdrawals are free, from ₦2,000, once every 10 hours. More than four bank or six Pocket withdrawals in a month forfeits that month’s Flex interest.

Where does my money go when a Safelock matures?

Into your Flex Naira wallet, from where you can withdraw it.

Can I add money to an existing Safelock?

Only to locks longer than 90 days, and only from your Piggybank wallet, according to the FAQ.
