Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

PiggyVest interest rate: how it is set and where to see today’s

PiggyVest sets its own rates for Flex Naira, Piggybank, Safelock and Targets. Where each rate appears, how interest accrues, and what cancels it.

The short answer

PiggyVest sets its own rates, and they differ by product and change over time, so the reliable figure is the one in the app on the day. For Safelock the FAQ says the exact rate and payout method are shown before you create the lock; Flex Naira, Piggybank and Target interest accrues daily and is shown on each dashboard.

People search for “the PiggyVest interest rate” as if there were one number. There is not. PiggyVest runs several savings products, each with its own rate and its own way of paying interest, and the company sets those rates itself. This page explains how each one works and where the live figure appears, so you can read the number in the app correctly. We do not print a rate here, because it would be out of date before you used it.

Who sets the rate

The FAQ presents each rate as PiggyVest’s own, shown in the app, and nothing in it ties a product to a published benchmark. Its FAQ describes Flex Dollar money as invested with SEC-regulated asset managers and in Eurobonds, which tells you that returns depend on what the underlying investments earn. Wider naira interest rates matter too: the CBN’s Monetary Policy Rate and Treasury bill yields, published on the CBN’s money market indicators page, shape what savings providers can afford to pay. Rates in apps can move as those benchmarks move, so a rate you saw months ago is not a guide to today’s.

Where each rate shows, product by product

ProductWhere you see the rateHow interest is paid (per FAQ)
Flex NairaFlex dashboardAccrues daily, paid on the 1st of each month
PiggybankPiggybank dashboardAccrues daily, paid monthly on the 1st (may land any time that day)
SafelockShown before you create the lockUpfront on locking, or at maturity, depending on the option
TargetTarget dashboardAccrues daily, paid at the end of the target
Flex DollarFlex Dollar screenAccrues daily, paid and compounded monthly

For Safelock the FAQ adds that rates depend on how long you lock, with longer locks paying more, and that interest is prorated to the period you choose. That is why two people can quote different Safelock rates on the same day and both be right.

How to read the figure in the app

  • Per annum, not per period. A rate shown “per annum” is a yearly rate. On a 60-day lock you earn roughly 60/365 of it, not the full figure.
  • Upfront versus maturity. Upfront Safelock interest is paid straight after you lock. The FAQ says upfront locks can only be withdrawn at maturity, so you are trading flexibility for early cash.
  • Daily accrual is not daily payment. Flex and Piggybank show a growing figure each day, but it is paid on the 1st.
  • Conditions can cancel interest. Under the FAQ, more than four bank withdrawals or more than six Pocket withdrawals from Flex Naira in a month forfeits that month’s Flex interest. Breaking a Target early loses its interest and costs 1%.

Worked example: turning a yearly rate into naira

Example only, using a made-up rate. Suppose the app shows a Safelock rate of 18% per annum for a 90-day lock and you lock ₦400,000.

Daily equivalent
₦400,000 × 18% ÷ 365 = about ₦197.26 per day
Over 90 days
₦197.26 × 90 = about ₦17,753
What you would receive at maturity
about ₦417,753 if interest is paid at maturity

Check the result against the payout figure the app shows before you confirm. If they differ, the app’s figure governs, and the difference usually comes from the exact day count or a different rate band. Interest on savings may also be subject to tax; see the NRS for current rules rather than assuming the figure is tax-free.

Checking today’s rate without guessing

  1. Open the product inside the PiggyVest app; the rate is on the dashboard or the create screen.
  2. For Safelock, try two or three durations before choosing, since the rate band changes with length.
  3. Screenshot the confirmation screen showing rate and payout method.
  4. Compare against one or two alternatives on the same day, not against an old blog post or a tweet.

What the headline rate does not tell you

A rate is only one part of the return. The FAQ’s withdrawal rules change what you actually keep: Piggybank withdrawals outside the four quarterly free dates (31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December) cost 3.5% of the amount, which can wipe out months of interest on a small balance. Flex Dollar returns are in dollars, so their naira value also moves with the exchange rate PiggyVest applies when you convert, described in the FAQ as its stated parallel market buy rate. And a higher Safelock rate is paid for with access: once locked, the money is out of reach until the date you set, except for the narrow early-break option on interest-at-maturity locks after day 90.

For the trade-off between keeping money reachable and earning more, read PiggyVest Safelock vs Flex Naira. To judge any rate against rising prices, our guide to real returns explains the inflation test.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme’s Naira Savings Boxes work on the same principle: the rate for a Flexible, Fixed or Investment Box is shown in the app before you commit, and an Interest-free Box earns nothing by design. If you want to compare like with like, read both apps’ rates on the same day.

Questions people ask

What is PiggyVest interest rate today?

It depends on the product and, for Safelock, on the lock length. PiggyVest shows the live rate on each dashboard and on the Safelock create screen; that is the only figure to rely on.

Does PiggyVest pay interest daily?

Interest accrues daily on Flex Naira, Piggybank and Targets, but the FAQ says Flex and Piggybank interest is paid on the 1st of each month and Target interest at the end of the target.

Why did I not get my Flex Naira interest this month?

The FAQ says more than four bank withdrawals or more than six Pocket withdrawals in a month forfeits that month’s Flex interest.

Can I save on PiggyVest without earning interest?

Yes. The FAQ describes a toggle under Account that lets you disable interest.
