Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

PiggyVest Piggybank, Target and Flex Naira: which to use

Piggybank, Target and Flex Naira differ in when you can withdraw, what an early exit costs and how interest is paid. The rules, side by side.

The short answer

Use Flex Naira for money you may need any day (free withdrawals, one every 10 hours), Piggybank for regular saving you only touch quarterly (free on set dates, 3.5% outside them) and Target Savings for a single goal with an end date (breaking early loses the interest and costs 1%). PiggyVest shows current rates in the app; they change with market conditions.

Three wallets, three levels of access

PiggyVest's FAQ describes its products by how hard they make it to spend. Flex Naira is the open wallet, where interest from the other products is paid and from which you can fund everything else. Piggybank, which PiggyVest also calls core savings, is for regular automatic saving that you withdraw about once a quarter. Target Savings is for a named goal, such as rent or a gadget, and can be personal or a group challenge. The right choice depends less on the rate than on how likely you are to need the money before you planned.

Flex NairaPiggybankTarget Savings
Free withdrawalsAny time, one every 10 hoursOnly on free withdrawal datesAt maturity
Early exit costNone, but interest for the month is lost after 4 bank (or 6 Pocket) withdrawals3.5% of the amount withdrawnAccrued interest lost plus 1% processing fee
Minimum withdrawal₦2,000₦3,000Not stated
Interest accruesDailyDailyDaily
Interest paid1st of each month1st of each monthAt the end of the target
Can be lockedNoNoYes; a locked target cannot be broken

All of the above is from PiggyVest's FAQ, read in October 2026. The FAQ also notes that interest is processed throughout the 1st of each month, so a monthly payment may appear at any point within that day.

How the interest mechanics differ

The headline rate matters less than the conditions attached to it. On Flex Naira the interest accrues daily but is conditional: the FAQ says you lose all of that month's accrued Flex interest if you withdraw more than four times to a bank or more than six times to Pocket. On Piggybank the interest is not at risk from withdrawals, but every withdrawal outside a free date costs 3.5% of the amount, which on a short horizon can exceed the interest earned. On Target Savings, interest builds up on the target and is only paid when it ends; if you miss your target amount by the maturity date, the FAQ says you lose the accrued interest but pay no processing fee.

PiggyVest states that its rates are subject to change at any time based on market conditions, so this article does not quote them. Compare the rates the app shows on the day you decide, and treat any figure older than a few weeks as out of date.

Worked example: the cost of changing your mind

Example only, ignoring interest. You need ₦120,000 urgently on 10 November 2026.

  • From Flex Naira: free, provided you have not withdrawn in the last 10 hours. If it is your fifth bank withdrawal that month, you keep the ₦120,000 but lose that month's Flex interest.
  • From Piggybank: 3.5% of ₦120,000 is ₦4,200, so ₦115,800 reaches you, unless 10 November is your own free date.
  • From an unlocked Target: the 1% fee is ₦1,200, so ₦118,800 is released to Flex, and the interest built up on the target is forfeited.
  • From a locked Target: not possible until maturity.

Which one suits which job

Emergency fund
Flex Naira, or an unlocked Target if you want a small barrier. Avoid locking money you may need within weeks.
Rent or school fees on a known date
Target Savings with the maturity set a little before the bill is due. PiggyVest also has HouseMoney for rent, which allows withdrawal any time in the maturity month.
Long-term habit saving
Piggybank with autosave, withdrawn on the quarterly free dates: 31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December.
Money you will not touch for months
Consider Safelock instead; see PiggyVest Safelock explained.

New users should note one more Piggybank rule: you must save for at least 90 days before you can set your own free withdrawal day, and once set, the next free day is 90 days after the last one, replacing the fixed quarterly dates. For the broader question of whether locking money helps, see locked savings: do they stop you spending?.

A simple way to split your money

Many savers use all three at once rather than choosing one. A common pattern is to keep a month or two of essential spending in Flex Naira, where it can be withdrawn on the day you need it, run Piggybank on autosave for long-term habit saving that you only touch on the quarterly dates, and open a Target for each fixed bill that is coming, such as rent, school fees or a planned purchase. The Flex balance absorbs surprises so that you are not forced to pay the 3.5% Piggybank charge or the 1% Target fee when something unexpected happens.

  1. Work out what you would need within the next 30 to 60 days if your income stopped; that is the Flex amount.
  2. List bills with known dates and open a Target for each, with maturity set before the due date.
  3. Put what is left on Piggybank autosave and note the next free withdrawal date in your calendar.
  4. Review once a quarter, on or just before a free date, and move money between wallets then.

If you prefer no interest

PiggyVest's FAQ says users who do not want interest can switch it off under Account using the Interest Enable on Savings (Riba) toggle. The withdrawal rules above still apply.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme's naira Savings Boxes follow a similar logic with four types: Flexible, Fixed, Investment and Interest-free, each with its rules and rate shown in the app before you commit. The idea of one goal per pot is covered in why separate savings pots work.

Questions people ask

Which is better, PiggyVest Target or Piggybank?

Target suits one goal with a fixed end date; Piggybank suits regular saving withdrawn quarterly. Breaking a Target costs 1% plus lost interest; a Piggybank withdrawal outside free dates costs 3.5%.

Can I withdraw from PiggyVest Target before maturity?

Yes, if it is not locked, but you lose accrued interest and pay a 1% processing fee. A locked target cannot be broken.

Does Flex Naira earn interest?

Yes, accrued daily and paid on the 1st of the month, but you lose the month's interest after more than four bank or six Pocket withdrawals.

What is the PiggyVest interest rate now?

PiggyVest says rates change with market conditions. Check the rate shown in the app on the day you save.
