Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

How to stop a recurring Paystack card debit

A repeat Paystack charge comes from a merchant using a card you saved with them. Cancel with the merchant first, then use your bank if it carries on.

The short answer

A recurring Paystack debit is a merchant charging a card you saved with them, so the first step is to cancel the subscription or remove the card in that merchant's app or account and get written confirmation. If you cannot identify the merchant, use the "Why was I debited?" lookup Paystack links from its site. If charges continue after you cancel, ask your bank to block or replace the card and dispute the later charges.

How recurring charges through Paystack work

Paystack is a payment processor; its site says it is a Stripe company. When you subscribe to a service, or tick a box to save your card, the merchant can charge that card again on a schedule. Paystack carries out the charge for the merchant, but the decision to charge, and the subscription itself, sit with the merchant. That is why cancelling inside Paystack is usually not the route; cancelling with the merchant is.

Step 1: identify the merchant

If you know which service it is, skip ahead. If your statement only says "Paystack":

  • Use the "Why was I debited?" lookup at paystack.com/lookup, which Paystack links from its security page, with the amount, date and narration.
  • Search your email for the amount and the word "receipt" or "subscription" around the debit date.
  • Look at the day of the month: a charge on the same date each month is almost always a subscription.

Our guide to tracing a Paystack debit you do not recognise covers this step in more depth.

Step 2: cancel with the merchant

  1. Sign in to the merchant's app or website and find Subscription, Billing, Plan or Payment methods.
  2. Cancel the plan and, where offered, remove the saved card.
  3. Save the confirmation screen or email.
  4. If you cannot find a cancel option, email the merchant's support asking them to cancel and stop all future charges to your card, and keep the email.
  5. Check the merchant's terms for a notice period, since some plans run to the end of the current billing cycle.

Step 3: if charges continue, use your bank

If a charge appears after your cancellation date, the merchant has charged without your authority. Your bank can stop it:

  1. Call your bank or use its app to block or replace the card. A new card number stops any merchant holding the old one.
  2. Tell the bank you cancelled on a stated date and are disputing charges after it. Send the cancellation confirmation.
  3. Ask for a dispute reference and note when you raised it.
  4. Update the new card with services you do want to keep.

If your bank does not resolve it, the CBN's consumer protection route is the next step; see how to complain to CBN consumer protection. For how card disputes work in general, see chargebacks and reversals in Nigeria.

Card debits versus direct debit mandates

A saved-card charge is different from a direct debit mandate on your bank account, which you sign up to separately and which is cancelled through the bank or the mandate's own process. If the debit narration names a mandate rather than a card payment, read our guide to direct debit mandates and recurring payments.

Worked example

Illustrative. Emeka's ₦7,900 monthly fitness app charge hits on the 15th. He cancels in the app on 2 June and saves the email. On 15 June he is charged again. He calls his bank, which replaces his card, and he disputes the 15 June charge with the cancellation email as evidence. The merchant refunds ₦7,900. Over the year, cancelling saved him ₦55,300 for the remaining seven months of a plan he no longer used (7 × ₦7,900).

Before you save a card next time

  • Read whether a free trial converts to a paid plan, and on what date.
  • Set a reminder two days before the first renewal.
  • Prefer services that let you cancel inside the app without emailing support.
  • Use a separate card or account for subscriptions so a block does not disrupt everyday spending.
  • Check your statement each month for charges on the same date.

Keeping subscriptions on one card also makes them easier to review: one statement shows everything that renews, and replacing that card cuts every unwanted plan at once.

When the merchant is abroad

Many subscriptions billed through Nigerian checkouts belong to local businesses, but some services you pay in naira may be run from abroad. Cancelling still happens in the merchant's account settings. If a foreign merchant ignores your cancellation, replacing the card through your bank is the quickest way to stop further charges, and the bank's dispute process applies to the charges after your cancellation date in the same way. Keep the cancellation confirmation either way, because it shows the date your authority ended.

Write down the merchant's support email when you subscribe; it is far harder to find once you want to leave.

Finally, check your statement on the next billing date to confirm the charge has stopped.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme's Personal Assistant can help you keep a list of recurring bills and remind you before renewals; it prepares, and nothing moves without your approval. See also finding and cancelling forgotten subscriptions.

Questions people ask

How do I stop Paystack from debiting my card?

Cancel the subscription or remove the card with the merchant that is charging you. Paystack processes the charge, but the merchant controls the subscription.

How do I cancel a Paystack subscription?

Sign in to the merchant's app or website and cancel under billing or subscription settings, or email the merchant asking them to cancel and stop all future charges.

Paystack keeps debiting me after I cancelled, what do I do?

Ask your bank to block or replace the card and dispute the charges made after your cancellation date, with your cancellation confirmation as evidence.

Can my bank stop recurring card payments?

Yes. Blocking or replacing the card stops merchants holding the old card number, and the bank can dispute unauthorised charges.
