Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Paying a Nigerian lawyer from the UK: checks before you send

Before paying a Nigerian lawyer from the UK, verify the lawyer and the firm, pay a firm account in the firm's name, and confirm the details by phone.

The short answer

Before you pay a Nigerian lawyer from the UK, check that the person is a lawyer and the firm is real, get the fee in writing, and pay into an account in the law firm's name rather than a personal account. Confirm the account details by calling a number you found yourself. International transfers fall outside the UK's scam reimbursement scheme, so checks before paying are your main protection.

Why these payments need extra care

Payments to lawyers are often large (land purchases, probate, court fees) and made to someone you have never met. Two risks dominate: a person who is not a lawyer at all, and a real lawyer whose email has been hijacked so that new bank details arrive mid-transaction. UK protections are thin here. The Payment Systems Regulator's reimbursement scheme for authorised push payment scams covers UK payments by Faster Payments or CHAPS and excludes international payments, as Nationwide's summary of the rules notes.

Check 1: the lawyer

The Nigerian Bar Association describes itself as the umbrella professional association of all lawyers admitted to the Bar in Nigeria. Ask the lawyer for:

  • Full name as enrolled, year of call to the Bar, and their Supreme Court enrolment number.
  • Their NBA branch, and their current practising fee receipt or stamp and seal reference.
  • The firm's name, physical office address and landline.

Then check independently: contact the NBA branch they name, or ask a lawyer you already trust to confirm the person. A genuine lawyer will not object. The NBA website did not offer a public lawyer search we could use when we checked in October 2026, so a branch call or a trusted referral is the practical route.

Check 2: the firm and the account

Pay a firm, not a person. Ask for an account in the law firm's registered name, and check the name against the Corporate Affairs Commission's public search (icrp.cac.gov.ng/public-search), where firms registered as business names or companies appear.

The Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners 2007, rule 23(2), require a lawyer to report and account promptly for client money and not to mix it with their own funds or use it as their own. A request to pay a lawyer's personal account, or a relative's account, does not fit that rule and is a reason to pause. For how client accounts and escrow work in Nigeria, see client accounts and escrow.

Check 3: the instruction and the fee

  1. Get a letter of engagement stating the work, the fee, what is a disbursement (filing fees, searches, stamp duty) and when each is due.
  2. Ask for an invoice on the firm's letterhead showing the account name and number.
  3. Call the firm on a number from its letterhead or website, not from the email with the invoice, and read the account number back.
  4. If bank details change by email at any point, stop and call again. Changed details mid-transaction are the classic sign of a hijacked inbox.
  5. Send a small test amount first for large sums and ask the firm to confirm receipt.

Red flags that should stop the payment

  • The lawyer cannot give an office address or will only talk on WhatsApp.
  • You are pressed to pay today to "secure" land or a court date.
  • The account name does not match the firm, or is a personal name with "& Co" added in the reference.
  • The fee is described only as "processing" with no letter of engagement.
  • The lawyer was introduced by the seller in a property deal and acts for both sides without saying so.
  • You are asked to pay in cash through a third party, or in cryptocurrency.

In property matters especially, hire your own lawyer rather than using one chosen by the seller, and ask them to report searches at the land registry in writing before you send the purchase price.

Paying and keeping the record

Use a reference the firm can match, such as your file number. Keep the transfer receipt, the invoice, the engagement letter and the firm's acknowledgement together. If you pay through a UK bank by SWIFT, note the charge option you chose, because intermediary deductions can make the amount received look short; see why the recipient gets less. For large property sums, read sending a large sum for a house.

If something goes wrong, contact your provider immediately; recovery of an international payment depends on the receiving bank's cooperation. Our guide on cancelling a SWIFT payment explains what is possible.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme can send naira to a Nigerian business account, showing the rate and fee before you approve, and any payment can produce a verifiable receipt through VerifyDoc.ai that the firm or a court can check is genuine and unaltered. See receipts.

Questions people ask

How do I verify a Nigerian lawyer from abroad?

Ask for their enrolment number, year of call and NBA branch, then confirm with that branch or through a lawyer you trust.

Should I pay a Nigerian lawyer into a personal account?

It is safer to pay an account in the law firm's name. The professional rules require lawyers not to mix client money with their own.

Will my UK bank refund me if a Nigerian lawyer scams me?

The UK APP scam reimbursement scheme excludes international payments, so recovery is much harder. Check before you pay.

Can I pay a Nigerian law firm with Western Union?

Check first. Western Union lists sending to a business account instead of a personal one as a reason a transfer may be cancelled.
