Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Paying a Nigerian university's fees on Remita from Spain

How to get the RRR from a Nigerian university portal, pay it for a sibling or child while you live in Spain, and confirm the school has it.

The short answer

The student generates the invoice and its Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) on the university's own portal, and anyone can then pay that RRR through a supported channel such as a Nigerian bank's internet banking, a card or a bank branch. From Spain the dependable route is to pay from a naira account, yours or a trusted person's, quoting the exact RRR, then check that the payment shows on the student's portal.

How Remita payments to universities work

Most Nigerian public universities, and many private ones, collect fees through Remita. The payment is tied to a reference number, the RRR, which tells Remita which institution, which fee and which student the money is for. You do not pay "the university" in general; you pay a specific RRR. That is why the first step always happens on the school's portal, not on your side.

UNIZIK's hostel process, published in April 2026, is a typical example: the student logs into the portal with their registration number, selects the fee, generates a Remita RRR, pays it, then confirms on the dashboard and prints the receipt. School fees, acceptance fees and hostel charges usually follow the same pattern, each with its own RRR.

Steps when you are paying from Spain

  1. Ask the student to log into the university portal, select the exact fee and generate the invoice. They should send you a screenshot or PDF showing the RRR, the amount, the student's name and registration or JAMB number, and the fee description.
  2. Check the amount against the school's published fee schedule or official notice. Do not pay a figure sent only by message.
  3. Make sure you have naira in a Nigerian account that can pay Remita RRRs, or arrange for a trusted person in Nigeria to pay from theirs.
  4. Pay the RRR through internet banking or the bank app ("Remita" or "pay bills" menu, then enter the RRR). The amount and payee details should load automatically from the RRR.
  5. Save the payment confirmation. Remita issues a receipt, and the RRR can be used to check the status.
  6. Ask the student to return to the portal, confirm the payment shows, and print the official school receipt.

The NCC's guide to paying through Remita, which describes the same system for its own fees, lists the channels as bank branches, Mastercard, Verve and Visa cards, internet banking, wallets or mobile money, and a Remita profile. It does not say whether cards issued abroad are accepted, and we found no official page that confirms it, so treat a Spanish card as uncertain and have a naira route ready.

If the RRR will not load or the payment fails

  • An RRR can expire or be cancelled if the school changes the fee; generate a new one rather than reusing an old reference.
  • If money left the account but the portal does not show it, do not pay again. Wait for the bank to confirm, then take the RRR and your receipt to the university's bursary or ICT help desk.
  • Duplicate payments are often hard to reverse, so check the status with the RRR before trying again.

Paying directly versus sending money to the student

Sending naira to the student and asking them to pay is quicker, but it mixes fee money with spending money and leaves you relying on screenshots. Paying the RRR yourself, or having a parent pay it, keeps the payment tied to the fee and gives you the receipt. Techeconomy's guide for diaspora parents (16 Sep 2025) makes the same point: pay through the official RRR and verify it, rather than paying an individual's account. Our guide to paying a sibling's university fees directly covers the family side of that choice.

Timing the conversion

University fees are a single, known naira amount with a deadline. Convert enough euros to naira a little before the deadline, so a weekend or a bank holiday does not push you past it, and keep a small margin for any bank charge on the Remita payment. If the school sets late-payment penalties, they will be in its own notice; check it rather than relying on what other students say.

For a worked example: a fee of ₦450,000 at an example rate of ₦1,650 per euro needs about €272.73, before any transfer fee. A rate of ₦1,600 per euro would need €281.25. If you are paying two semesters, decide whether to convert both now or each when due; there is no way to know which will be cheaper.

Keep the paperwork together

  • The portal invoice showing the RRR.
  • The bank or Remita payment confirmation.
  • The school receipt printed from the portal after the payment shows.
  • Your own transfer receipt from Spain, if you sent naira to a payer in Nigeria.

These four documents answer most questions later, from a missing payment to a scholarship or visa application that asks for proof of fees paid. For school fees below university level, see paying school fees in Nigeria from Spain, and for the wider Remita picture, Remita payments from abroad.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds euros and naira together, so you can convert with Swap and send naira to a parent or trusted payer in Nigeria for the RRR. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Check in the app whether Remita bill payment is available to you before relying on it for a deadline.

Questions people ask

How do I pay a Nigerian university fee on Remita from abroad?

The student generates the invoice and RRR on the university portal. You then pay that RRR from a Nigerian naira account by internet banking or app, or have a trusted person pay it, and the student confirms it on the portal.

Can I pay Remita with a Spanish or European bank card?

Remita lists Mastercard, Verve and Visa cards among its channels, but no official page we found confirms that cards issued abroad work. Keep a naira payment route ready.

What is an RRR number?

The Remita Retrieval Reference, a code that identifies the institution, fee and payer for one payment. Each fee usually has its own RRR.

I paid the RRR but the school portal does not show it. What should I do?

Do not pay again. Check the status with the RRR, then take the RRR and your receipt to the bursary or ICT help desk.
