Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Your passport is ready at the mission: is there a deadline?

No Nigerian mission page we read sets a deadline to collect a finished passport, but unclaimed ones pile up. How to find yours and get it sent.

The short answer

None of the Nigerian mission or NIS pages we read in October 2026 sets a fixed deadline for collecting a finished passport, or says what happens to one left unclaimed. Missions do keep lists: the New York consulate said in 2023 it held 400 uncollected passports, posted the owners' names and would post them out on receipt of a self-addressed envelope, and the London High Commission publishes a list of passports returned undelivered by Royal Mail. Contact your mission promptly with your application details and a prepaid return envelope.

You gave your fingerprints months ago, then moved house, changed phone, or simply forgot. Now you need the passport and wonder whether it still exists. In most cases it does, sitting in a mission's cabinet, but the longer it sits the harder it can be to trace.

Is there an official deadline?

We checked the passport pages of the London and Ottawa missions, the NIS passports page and NIS's 2026 Service Level Agreement. None gives a collection deadline or a rule on destroying or returning unclaimed passports. The service agreement sets turnaround times after enrolment (21 days for renewal or reissue, 42 for a fresh passport) but says nothing about how long a produced passport is held.

The numbers show the issue is real. In February 2023 the Consul General in New York told a town hall meeting that 400 passports produced within the previous two years were uncollected, according to BusinessDay. Inside Nigeria, THEWILL reported in January 2022 that the NIS office in Calabar held more than 2,560 passports uncollected since 2019. Neither report said the passports had been destroyed.

How missions handle uncollected passports

MissionWhat it publishes
High Commission LondonA list of passports returned by Royal Mail as undelivered, for collection at 9 Northumberland Avenue; a lost-and-found passports list
Consulate New York (2023)Names of owners posted on its website and WhatsApp group; passports posted out to those who send a self-addressed envelope
High Commission London, contactlessPassports returned by post, with no physical collection after biometrics

The New York report also noted that some passports posted to addresses on file came back to the consulate, which is often how a passport becomes "uncollected": the applicant moved, or the envelope was wrong.

Steps to get yours

  1. Check the status on the NIS tracking portal; see tracking a passport application made abroad. EIG Law reported in January 2026 that NIS tracking now shows a "Produced (Passport Produced, Ready for Collection)" status.
  2. Look for your name on your mission's uncollected or returned passports list, if it publishes one.
  3. Email the mission's passport section with your full name as on the application, application ID and reference number, date of biometrics and current address and phone.
  4. Ask whether it can post the passport to you and what envelope it needs; London asks for a prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope for its services, and New York used self-addressed envelopes.
  5. If you must collect in person, bring your old passport or other photo ID and the appointment or acknowledgement slip.
  6. If someone else will collect, ask the mission first; we found no published proxy rule. See collection by someone else.

If the details on it are wrong

Check the data page as soon as you have it. A spelling or date error is corrected through the data correction route, which NIS's 2026 agreement prices at ₦30,000 as a non-refundable administrative charge; see correcting a data page error.

Worked example

Example only: Ifeoma renewed at the London High Commission in March, then moved from Leeds to Bristol. In September the tracking portal shows Produced, but no envelope has arrived. She checks the returned-passports list on the High Commission's site and finds her surname. She emails the passport section with her application ID, reference number, old and new addresses and a scan of her ID, and asks how to have it reposted. She sends a new prepaid Special Delivery envelope with the mission's reference on it, and the passport arrives two weeks later.

If you have moved country

If you applied in one country and now live in another, the passport stays with the mission that took your biometrics until you arrange its release. Email that mission, not your new one, and ask whether it can courier the passport internationally and in what envelope. Some missions only post within their own country, in which case a friend or relative there may need to receive it for you, which brings back the proxy question. Ask for the mission's answer in writing before you send anyone.

Avoiding this next time

  • Use an address you will still have in three months, or a relative's.
  • Keep the application ID and reference number somewhere you will find them.
  • Write your phone number and email clearly on the return envelope.
  • Check the tracking portal every few weeks after biometrics; NIS's own turnaround, plus shipping, gives a rough guide. See how long renewal takes abroad.

Where Pryme fits

Postage and any replacement fees are small but come in two currencies. A Pryme Personal Account holds both, with a receipt for each payment.

Questions people ask

How long does a Nigerian embassy keep an uncollected passport?

None of the mission or NIS pages we read sets a period. Contact your mission as soon as you can with your application details.

Will my uncollected Nigerian passport be destroyed?

We found no official rule saying so. Missions such as New York have published lists of uncollected passports and posted them out on request.

Can the Nigerian High Commission post my passport to me?

Many missions return passports by post with a prepaid self-addressed envelope; London returns contactless applications by post.

How do I know my passport is ready?

Check the NIS tracking portal; it now shows a Produced, ready for collection status.
