Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Parent's 70th birthday in Nigeria planned from the UK

Budgeting a 70th birthday party in Nigeria from the UK: cost lines, a worked naira budget, paying vendors safely and what UK guests need to travel.

The short answer

Fix the guest number first, because catering, venue and souvenirs all scale with it, then budget line by line in naira and add a 10% contingency. Pay vendors in stages to their business accounts against written quotes, with someone you trust at home checking delivery, and keep the final payment until the day has gone as agreed.

A 70th birthday is often the largest celebration a Nigerian family holds for a living parent. When the children live in the UK, it is usually planned over WhatsApp, paid for in pounds converted to naira, and delivered by vendors none of you have met. The celebration can still be exactly what your parent deserves. The trick is to make the decisions that drive cost early, and to control how and when vendors are paid.

The decisions that set the budget

  1. Guest numbers. Catering, chairs, drinks, souvenirs and venue size all follow it. A list of 150 and a list of 400 are different events.
  2. The format. A thanksgiving service followed by a reception, a single party, or both on different days.
  3. Where. The family compound with canopies, a hall or an event centre. Compounds save on venue fees but add canopies, generators, toilets and clean-up.
  4. Who is travelling from abroad. Flights, visas for British-born relatives and accommodation can cost more than the party itself.
  5. Aso ebi. Whether the family will choose a fabric, and who pays for whose.

Worked example budget (illustrative figures only)

These figures are invented to show the structure for about 200 guests at a hired hall. Get real quotes; prices vary widely by city and by vendor, and food costs move month to month. The National Bureau of Statistics, for instance, reported the average price of 1kg of tomatoes rose 6.60% between March and April 2026.

LineExample amount
Hall hire and cleaning₦1,200,000
Catering (200 guests)₦3,000,000
Drinks and small chops₦900,000
Decoration and cake₦700,000
DJ or live band, MC₦800,000
Photography and video₦500,000
Souvenirs₦600,000
Canopies, generator and fuel for the service₦400,000
Thanksgiving offering₦300,000
Subtotal₦8,400,000
Contingency (10%)₦840,000
Total₦9,240,000

If four siblings share equally, each would contribute ₦2,310,000 in this example. Shares do not have to be equal; see pooling money among siblings for ways to agree them, and aso ebi payments from the UK for fabric.

Paying vendors from abroad

Most problems come from paying too much too early to someone you cannot check. A few rules help:

  • Written quotes. Ask each vendor for a quote listing what is included, guest numbers, timings and what happens if numbers change.
  • Check the business. The CAC public search at search.cac.gov.ng is free and shows a registered name, RC or BN number and status. Ask for photos or videos of recent events and a past client you can call.
  • Stage payments. A deposit to book, a second payment close to the date, and a final balance after the event. Hold back enough of the balance to matter.
  • Business accounts. Pay the account in the business's name. Be wary if a vendor asks for payment to a different personal account at the last minute; confirm by a call to a number you already have.
  • One coordinator at home. A sibling, cousin or hired planner who visits the venue, tastes the food and checks deliveries on the day.

Keeping it about your parent

Planning from abroad tends to drift towards what looks good in photos. Ask your parent early what they actually want: a church or mosque thanksgiving, old friends from school or work, a particular musician, the food of their hometown, or a quieter family dinner. Seventy-year-olds often care more about who is in the room than about the decoration. A small budget spent on bringing an elderly friend from another state, or on a good sound system so older guests can hear the speeches, is usually money well spent. Also plan for comfort on the day: shade, seating close to the toilets, water, and a short programme so your parent is not exhausted by evening.

Guests travelling from the UK

GOV.UK's Nigeria entry requirements, updated 16 October 2026, say British visitors need a visa obtained before travel through the Nigeria Immigration Service portal and that visa on arrival is no longer available. A yellow fever certificate is also required, with exemptions for very young infants and older adults. Give British-born grandchildren and spouses months, not weeks, to arrange visas and vaccinations; see vaccines for UK-born children.

What to check first

  1. Agree the guest list and format with your parent; it is their day.
  2. Agree each sibling's share before any vendor is booked.
  3. Collect three quotes for catering and the venue.
  4. Set the payment schedule for each vendor in writing.
  5. Name the coordinator at home and agree what they can approve without calling.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme account you can hold pounds and naira together, convert as contributions come in with the rate and fee shown first, and pay each vendor's naira account. A verifiable receipt for every payment, checked through VerifyDoc.ai, lets siblings see exactly where the money went.

Questions people ask

How much does a 70th birthday party cost in Nigeria?

It depends mainly on guest numbers, venue and catering. Build the budget line by line from real quotes and add a 10% contingency. Our illustrative 200-guest example came to about ₦9.2 million.

How do I pay event vendors in Nigeria from the UK?

Pay in stages to the vendor's business account against a written quote, with someone at home checking each stage, and keep the final balance until after the event.

Do my UK-born children need a visa for a party in Nigeria?

GOV.UK says British visitors need a visa obtained before travel and that visa on arrival is no longer available. A yellow fever certificate is also required.

How do siblings abroad share the cost of a parent's birthday?

Agree shares before booking vendors, whether equal or based on income, and keep a shared record of who has paid.
