You are not borrowing. You are selling to somebody who already has the money — and that money can only be spent with a business like yours.

Resolved 4 conversations — two deliveries, one refund. The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.
An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.
A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.
Solid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.
More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.
Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.
Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.
Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.
Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.
Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.
Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.
Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.
Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Business name, partnership or limited company: how Nigerian owners should pay themselves, and how drawings, salary and dividends are taxed.
If you trade as a business name or partnership, you pay yourself through drawings, which are not a business expense: tax falls on the whole profit as your personal income, whatever you withdraw. In a limited company you are separate from the business, so a salary for work you do goes through PAYE and can be deducted by the company, while dividends come out of profit after company tax. Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, small companies pay 0% company income tax and others 30%, which changes which route costs less.
How you take money out depends on the legal form of the business, not on what you call the transfer. The table sets out the four common routes.
| Business type | How the owner takes money | Business expense? | Where the tax falls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business name (sole proprietor) | Drawings | No | Your personal income tax on the whole profit |
| Partnership | Drawings, plus any agreed partner salary or interest on capital | No; it forms part of that partner's share | Each partner, on their share (Nigeria Tax Act 2025, s.15) |
| Limited company, director who works in it | Salary through payroll | Generally yes, if wholly and exclusively for the business | PAYE on you; the company deducts the cost before company tax |
| Limited company, shareholder | Dividends | No; paid from profit after tax | Withholding tax deducted from the dividend |
A business name registered with the CAC is not a separate taxpayer. You and the business are the same person for tax. Money you move from the business account to yourself is a drawing: it reduces your capital in the business, not its profit. The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 says no deduction is allowed for "capital repaid or withdrawn from a trade, business, profession or vocation" (s.21(a)) or for any domestic or private expense (s.21(c)). Calling a monthly transfer "my salary" does not turn it into a cost.
The result is that tax is worked out on profit, whether you took all of it home or left it in the shop to buy stock. Personal income tax bands from 1 January 2026 start at 0% on the first ₦800,000 of chargeable income, then 15% on the next ₦2.2 million, rising in steps to 25% on income above ₦50 million (DLA Piper, August 2026). Chargeable income is the business profit after allowable deductions and reliefs, never the amount you drew.
Partnerships work the same way. Under s.15 of the Act, each partner's income is any remuneration and interest on capital the partnership pays them, plus their share of the remaining profit in the proportions in the partnership agreement, or equally if there is no agreement. A partner's private spending is not deducted.
Example only. Adaeze trades under a registered business name. In the year her sales are ₦18,000,000, cost of goods sold is ₦12,600,000 and running costs (rent, transport, power and one shop assistant) are ₦2,900,000. Profit is ₦18,000,000 − ₦12,600,000 − ₦2,900,000 = ₦2,500,000. She transferred ₦200,000 a month to her personal account, ₦2,400,000 in all.
A company is a separate legal person, so every naira you take out needs a label, and the label decides the tax.
The Act allows a company to deduct "salary, wages or other remuneration paid to employees" (s.20(1)(c)), subject to the general test in s.20(1) that an expense is wholly and exclusively incurred in producing the income. A salary for real work, paid through payroll, reduces the company's taxable profit. You then pay PAYE as an employee: the company deducts it and pays it to the state tax authority, by the 10th of the month after salaries are paid according to PwC's summary (reviewed May 2026). Pension and other payroll obligations apply where the company meets their thresholds.
Dividends come from profit that has already been through company tax and are not a deduction for the company. The company deducts withholding tax when it pays; the 2024 deduction-at-source regulations set 10% on dividends (PwC highlights, July 2024). A dividend must be properly declared under the company's articles, so check the paperwork with your company secretary or accountant first.
The most common mistake is taking company money with no label at all. It sits in the books as an amount the director owes the company. It is not salary, so the company gets no deduction, and it is not a dividend, so it can be questioned at a tax audit. Clear it by repaying it, putting it through payroll or declaring a dividend.
Section 56 of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 levies 0% on a small company and 30% on any other company. PwC's summary (reviewed 29 May 2026) describes a small company as one with gross turnover of ₦100 million or less and fixed assets not above ₦250 million, and notes a 4% development levy on assessable profits for companies other than small and non-resident ones.
A Pryme Business Account keeps business money apart from your personal account, and payroll lets a director's salary run alongside staff pay. The Finance agent can prepare a monthly view of profit against what you have drawn; a person approves anything above the ceiling you set.
No. Drawings reduce the owner's capital in the business. The Nigeria Tax Act 2025, s.21(a), disallows any deduction for capital withdrawn from a trade or business.
You can transfer a fixed amount each month and treat it as your pay for budgeting, but for tax it is still a drawing. You are taxed on the business profit, not on what you took.
It depends on whether the company is small (0% company tax) or pays 30% plus the 4% development levy, and on your personal tax position. A justified salary is deductible for the company; a dividend is not and carries withholding tax. An accountant should model both.
If you trade as a business name or partnership, yes: tax is on the profit whether or not you withdrew it. In a company, retained profit is taxed at the company rate, which is 0% for small companies.
