Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

OSHC for Nigerian students in Australia: what it covers

What Overseas Student Health Cover is, why your student visa requires it, what it pays for, the gaps it leaves, and how Nigerian students fill them.

The short answer

OSHC is health insurance that students on a temporary student visa must hold for the whole visa as a visa condition. It helps with hospital and medical treatment and ambulance, but pays only up to $50 per medicine item and $500 a year for a single policy, and nothing for dental, optical or physiotherapy, according to privatehealth.gov.au (September 2026).

Every Nigerian student coming to an Australian university or college meets OSHC before they meet their lecturers, because it has to be in place for the visa. Many treat it as a box to tick and only learn what it does not cover when they need a dentist. This guide sets out what the official consumer site says it covers and how to plan around the gaps.

Why you must hold it

privatehealth.gov.au, the government's private health insurance information site (page modified 8 September 2026), says that students from overseas on a temporary student visa must maintain Overseas Student Health Cover "for the duration of your visa" as a condition of the visa. That means the policy has to run from arrival to visa expiry, not just term time. Letting it lapse puts you in breach of a visa condition, as well as leaving you uninsured.

What OSHC covers

AreaWhat privatehealth.gov.au says
Hospital and medical treatmentOSHC policies assist to cover the cost
AmbulanceCovered
MedicinesLimited to $50 per pharmaceutical item, up to $500 a year (single) or $1,000 (family)
Dental, optical, physiotherapy (extras)Not covered

"Assist to cover" matters. OSHC is not a promise that every bill is paid in full. Doctors and hospitals can charge more than the policy pays, and you meet the difference.

The gaps, and how to fill them

  • Dental and optical. The page suggests Extras OSHC, general treatment cover from an Australian private insurer, or travel insurance. A broken tooth or new glasses otherwise comes from your pocket.
  • Gap payments. Ask a GP clinic before booking whether it bills your OSHC insurer directly and whether it charges a gap on top.
  • Medicines above the cap. If you take a regular medicine, work out whether the $500 annual limit will be reached and budget for the rest.
  • Pre-existing conditions and pregnancy. The page does not set out waiting periods. Ask your insurer in writing before you buy, especially if you plan a family or have a chronic condition.

Worked example (illustrative only)

A student takes a regular medicine costing A$70 a script, filled monthly. OSHC pays up to A$50 per item, so the student pays A$20 a month, A$240 a year. Twelve scripts at A$50 is A$600 of benefit, above the A$500 single cap, so the last two scripts of the year are paid in full: another A$100. Total out of pocket: A$340. The prices are an example; your pharmacist and insurer give the real ones.

Using OSHC day to day

  1. Download your insurer's app and keep your membership card or number on your phone.
  2. For a non-urgent problem, see a GP rather than going to a hospital emergency department.
  3. Keep every receipt and claim promptly, through the app or online.
  4. If you are admitted to hospital, give your OSHC details at admission and ask what you will have to pay.
  5. Before your visa is extended or changed, extend the policy to match the new end date.

Choosing a provider

The page lists the OSHC providers as ahm OSHC, Allianz Care Australia (Peoplecare), BUPA Australia, CBHS International Health, Medibank Private and NIB OSHC. Your institution may have a preferred provider and may arrange cover when you enrol, but you can usually compare. Look at:

  1. the price for the full length of your visa, not just one year;
  2. which clinics near your campus bill the insurer directly;
  3. how claims are made (app, online, at the counter);
  4. the policy's waiting periods and exclusions in its own documents;
  5. family cover if a spouse or child joins you.

Paying for it, and for the gaps

OSHC is often paid upfront for the whole visa, which can be a large single cost for a family paying from Nigeria. Work also helps: Study Australia says student visa holders can work up to 48 hours a fortnight while a course is in session, with no limit in scheduled breaks. See student visa work hours. For how students sit against Medicare more generally, see Medicare eligibility on your visa.

Where Pryme fits

If parents in Nigeria are paying fees or insurance, a Pryme account lets them hold and convert naira, dollars, pounds and euros, with the rate and the fee shown before they approve. A verifiable statement through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai can support proof of funds where accepted. See the multicurrency account and verifiable statements.

Questions people ask

Is OSHC compulsory for Nigerian students in Australia?

Yes. privatehealth.gov.au says holding OSHC for the duration of your student visa is a visa condition.

Does OSHC cover dental?

No. OSHC does not pay for extras such as dental, optical or physiotherapy. Extras cover is sold separately.

How much does OSHC pay for medicines?

Up to $50 per item and $500 a year for a single policy, or $1,000 for a family, per privatehealth.gov.au.

Which companies sell OSHC?

ahm OSHC, Allianz Care Australia (Peoplecare), BUPA Australia, CBHS International Health, Medibank Private and NIB OSHC are listed.
