Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

How to open a Union Bank account online

What Union Bank lets you do online, the BVN or NIN you need first, the documents it lists, and when a branch visit is still part of the process.

The short answer

Union Bank lists account opening as a service on UnionMobile, its app and *826# USSD channel, so a basic account can be started from a phone. You need a BVN or NIN, because CBN rules bar new Tier 1 accounts without one. Union Bank's own pages do not publish the full online steps or tier limits, so expect a fuller KYC check, and possibly a branch visit, before higher limits or a domiciliary account.

Union Bank of Nigeria, which absorbed Titan Trust Bank in September 2025, runs its digital banking under the UnionMobile name: an app on Google Play and the App Store, and the *826# USSD code. This guide sets out what the bank itself says about opening an account remotely, what Nigerian KYC rules require of every new customer, and where the published information stops, so you know what to prepare before you start.

What Union Bank says you can do online

The UnionMobile page, checked in October 2026, lists account opening among its services, alongside transfers, bills, airtime and data, cardless withdrawals and standing orders. It does not describe the account-opening screens themselves. What it does describe is how an existing customer registers on the app, and that sequence tells you a good deal about what the bank expects:

  1. Download the UnionMobile app and accept the terms.
  2. Enter your Union Bank account number.
  3. Enter the one-time password (OTP) sent to the phone number registered with the bank.
  4. Choose a username and password, then set a transaction PIN.
  5. Log in, and later activate transactions with your debit card details (PAN, CVV, expiry date and card PIN) under My Profile.

Two points follow. First, app registration assumes you already have an account number and a phone number on the bank's records, so the account-opening route is a separate flow that issues those. Second, full transaction access depends on a debit card, which is issued after the account exists. Until you activate transactions, the page says you can only buy airtime of up to ₦5,000 for yourself.

The rule that applies at every bank: BVN or NIN first

In December 2023 the CBN amended its BVN framework so that a BVN or NIN is mandatory for Tier 1 individual accounts and wallets, and no new Tier 1 account may be opened without one. Accounts already funded but lacking either were to be placed on Post No Debit or Credit from 1 March 2024, according to ICIR's report of the circular. In practice this means the online form will ask for your BVN or NIN early, and details such as your name and date of birth are checked against the NIBSS and NIMC records. If those records do not match the name you type, the application will stall.

What to have ready

  • Your BVN, or your NIN if you have no BVN yet.
  • A phone number registered in your name and able to receive SMS, because OTPs go to that number.
  • A clear photo of a valid ID: Union Bank's own account pages list the international passport, driver's licence or National ID card.
  • A utility bill no older than three months or a signed tenancy agreement, which Union Bank lists for its domiciliary accounts and is the usual proof of address.
  • Two passport photographs, also on Union Bank's domiciliary document list, in case a fuller account is opened at a branch.

Tiers and what they mean for limits

Nigerian bank accounts are tiered by how much KYC you have completed. The lowest tier needs the least documentation and carries the tightest limits on single deposits and on the balance you can hold; the highest tier needs full documentation and address verification. A third-party summary of CBN rules by Youverify (2026) gives Tier 1 figures of ₦30,000 daily and ₦300,000 cumulative balance and Tier 2 figures of ₦500,000, with no transaction limit at Tier 3. Treat those as indicative: Union Bank does not publish its own tier limits on the pages we checked, and older CBN guidance uses different numbers. Our guide to KYC tier limits explains the framework, and our article on Union Bank transfer limits by tier covers how to raise yours.

What still needs a branch or extra paperwork

Some accounts are not fully remote at any Nigerian bank. Union Bank's domiciliary current account, for example, asks for two valid references and a customer information update (CIU) form in addition to ID, a utility bill and BVN. Businesses need CAC documents and resolutions. If your online account is opened at a low tier, upgrading typically means submitting proof of address and ID for verification. Ask the bank whether that can be done by email or in the app before travelling to a branch.

Account typeWhat Union Bank's pages listLikely remote?
Basic savings via UnionMobileListed as a service; steps not publishedYes, at an entry tier
Domiciliary (USD, GBP, EUR)2 photos, ID, utility bill or tenancy agreement, BVN; minimum $50Ask the bank
Domiciliary current (GBP, EUR)As above plus 2 references and CIU form; $100 equivalentUsually branch

Steps

  1. Confirm your BVN or NIN details match your ID exactly (name order, date of birth).
  2. Install UnionMobile from the official store listing, or dial *826# from your own registered line.
  3. Choose account opening and follow the prompts; note any account number issued.
  4. Request a debit card, then register the app and activate transactions with the card details.
  5. Submit ID and proof of address to move to a higher tier if you need larger limits.

Where Pryme fits

If you live abroad, or want naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros in one place, a Pryme Personal Account can be opened from any country. Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company, not a bank; naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. See how the multicurrency account works or open an account.

Questions people ask

Can I open a Union Bank account without going to the bank?

Union Bank lists account opening on UnionMobile, so an entry-level account can be started from your phone with a BVN or NIN. Higher tiers and domiciliary accounts may need documents verified or a branch visit.

What is the code to open a Union Bank account?

Union Bank's USSD service is *826#. Its page does not publish a separate account-opening string, so dial *826# and follow the menu.

Do I need BVN to open a Union Bank account?

You need a BVN or a NIN. Since the CBN's December 2023 amendment, no new Tier 1 account may be opened without one of them.

Can I use the Union Bank app without a debit card?

You can register with your account number and an OTP, but the page says full transactions are activated with your debit card details. Before that, only self airtime up to ₦5,000 is allowed.
