Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Opening a Pryme Business Account: what you need

What to have ready for a Pryme Business Account by entity type, what the account holds, and the five agents that come with it.

The short answer

A Pryme Business Account is opened in the app, from any country, by a registered business. The app shows the exact document list for your entity type (business name, limited company or other) before you start; in practice that means your CAC registration papers, Tax ID and the ID and BVN of the people who will control the account. The account holds naira, dollars, pounds and euros and comes with Chief of Staff, Finance, Compliance, Sales and Customer Support agents.

What the account is, and who holds the money

Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company, not a bank. Naira deposits in a Pryme Business Account are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, which is licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. Outside Nigeria, financial activities are carried out through regulated partners. One account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, each with local account details, and money stays in the currency it arrived in until you choose to convert it with Swap: the rate is shown first, the fee on its own line, and you approve.

Before you start: what to have ready

The app is the source of truth for the list that applies to you. It asks for documents by entity type, so a business name and a limited company see different lists. Because the account sits with a CBN-licensed bank, expect the same kinds of documents any Nigerian bank asks for. Having them ready as clear scans or photos makes sign-up quicker.

If you areHave ready (typical)Why
A registered business nameCAC certificate, status report, Tax ID, proprietor's ID and BVN, proof of addressConfirms the name and its owner
A limited companyCertificate of incorporation, status report, memart, board resolution or director approval, directors' and signatories' ID and BVN, Tax ID, proof of addressConfirms the company and who controls it
In a SCUML-designated sectorSCUML certificate in additionAnti-money-laundering rule for designated businesses
A regulated trade (for example pharmacy or school)The relevant operating licence, if the app asksSector rules

This table describes what Nigerian banks commonly require; it is not Pryme's official checklist. The CBN's December 2023 directive, reported by ICIR, made BVN or NIN compulsory for account holders, so every person who will control the account should have their BVN and NIN to hand. For the detail behind each item, see our guides to business name account documents and company account documents. SCUML's own page lists the sectors and the documents it needs.

The five agents that come with it

Every Pryme Business Account comes with five agents built by Pryme Intelligence. They prepare work; a person approves anything above a ceiling you set, and every action is recorded.

  • Chief of Staff
  • Finance
  • Compliance
  • Sales
  • Customer Support

Each agent works in its own area and hands finished drafts to a person. Our explainer on what AI agents can and cannot do in business finance sets out the limits. The point to understand before you open the account is the division of labour: the agent does the preparation, the human does the deciding, and the record shows who did what.

The approval ceiling is the control that matters. Set it low while you learn how the agents work, and raise it only when you are comfortable with what they prepare. Separating the person who prepares a payment from the person who approves it reduces both errors and fraud.

What you can do once it is open

  • Receive naira, dollars, pounds and euros into local account details for each currency.
  • Take payments online through bank-transfer checkout, free of charge (see our fee explainer).
  • Pay bills in the app: airtime, data, electricity and cable TV.
  • Apply to join Spaces, Pryme's merchant ecosystem, if you are in a supported sector in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt.

Security from day one

Pryme uses an authenticator app rather than SMS codes for sign-in checks, and a transaction PIN for payments. Set up the authenticator on a phone that only the account controller uses, and do not share the PIN with staff: give staff their own access with limits instead. Details are on the security page.

Why sign-up stalls, and how to avoid it

Most delays on any business account, at a bank or in an app, come from mismatches rather than missing papers. A director whose BVN shows a different date of birth from their passport, a status report listing a director who has since resigned, or a utility bill for an address CAC does not have on file will each stop a review until it is explained. Fix these at the source (NIBSS through your bank for BVN details, CAC for company records) before you upload, rather than explaining them afterwards.

What to check first

  1. Your CAC record is current: names, address and directors match your IDs.
  2. Every controller has a BVN and NIN whose details match their ID exactly.
  3. You know whether your sector needs a SCUML certificate.
  4. You have decided who approves payments and at what ceiling.
  5. You have read the in-app document list for your entity type before uploading anything.

To begin, go to open an account.

Questions people ask

Can I open a Pryme Business Account from outside Nigeria?

Yes. Personal and Business accounts can be opened from any country. The app shows the documents needed for your entity type.

Is Pryme a bank?

No. Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company. Naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit.

Do the agents move money on their own?

No. The agents prepare work. A person approves above a ceiling you set, and every action is recorded.

Do I need SCUML for a Pryme Business Account?

Only if your business is in a sector SCUML designates, such as hotels, supermarkets, real estate or professional firms. The app asks for it where it applies.
