Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Oklahoma remittance fee on transfers to Nigeria explained

A state fee applies to money transmissions at licensed Oklahoma counters. It is $5, plus 1% above $500, and can be claimed back as an income tax credit.

The short answer

Oklahoma charges a fee on money transmissions initiated at the location of a licensed money transmitter or its agent: $5 on amounts up to $500, and $5 plus 1% of the amount over $500 on larger ones. The customer is entitled to an Oklahoma income tax credit equal to the fee, claimed by filing an Oklahoma individual income tax return with a valid Social Security number or taxpayer identification number.

What the fee is

The fee comes from Oklahoma law (63 O.S. § 2-503.1j) and is set out in the Oklahoma Tax Commission's rules at Oklahoma Administrative Code 710:95-15-3. It has applied since 1 July 2009. The rule levies the fee "against licensees" under Oklahoma's Drug Money Laundering and Wire Transmitter Act, on transactions "initiated at a location of any licensee or its delegate". The licensee collects it from the customer, files quarterly returns and sends the money to the Tax Commission electronically.

The version of the rule we read is shown as current through 16 June 2025 and carries a warning that it may not be the latest text. Check with the Oklahoma Tax Commission or the agent before relying on the figures below.

How much it is

Amount you send (excluding fees)Oklahoma fee
Up to $500$5
Over $500$5 plus 1% of the amount above $500

The fee is worked out on the amount transmitted, not including the provider's own fees and costs.

Worked examples

  • Example: $300 to Lagos. Fee $5.
  • Example: $500 to Abuja. Fee $5.
  • Example: $1,200 to Port Harcourt. $5 + 1% × ($1,200 − $500) = $5 + $7 = $12.
  • Example: $2,000 to Owerri. $5 + 1% × $1,500 = $5 + $15 = $20.

Where it applies

The wording ties the fee to transactions initiated at a licensee's or agent's location in Oklahoma: the counter at a store, check casher or money transfer agent. The rule we read does not say how it treats transfers you start at home in an app, or wires from your bank account, so do not assume either way. If you send from Oklahoma, the receipt or disclosure should show any state fee separately, because the CFPB's Remittance Transfer Rule requires providers to disclose fees and taxes collected before you pay.

Licensees must also post a notice telling customers about the tax credit, in the format the rule says the state Bureau prescribes, so look for it near the counter.

How to get it back as a tax credit

The rule says a customer is "entitled to an income tax credit equal to the amount of the fee paid by the customer for the transaction", upon filing an Oklahoma individual income tax return with either a valid Social Security number or a taxpayer identification number. In practice:

  1. Keep every receipt that shows the Oklahoma fee.
  2. Add up the fees paid during the tax year.
  3. File an Oklahoma individual income tax return using your SSN or ITIN.
  4. Claim the credit as the return's instructions direct; the rule we read does not name the line or schedule, so check the current Oklahoma return instructions or ask a tax preparer.

The rule also lets a licensee deduct fees it refunded on incomplete transfers, with proof of refund to the customer. If your transfer to Nigeria fails at the agent and you get the money back, ask whether the state fee was refunded too.

How it combines with the federal 1% tax

Since 1 January 2026 a separate 1% federal excise tax applies to transfers paid in cash, money orders or cashier's checks. A cash transfer at an Oklahoma agent can therefore carry both. Under the proposed IRS rules, state taxes are not part of the base for the federal tax, so the two are worked out separately.

Example only. Emeka pays $1,200 in cash at an agent in Tulsa with a $10 provider fee. Oklahoma fee: $12. Federal tax: 1% × $1,200 = $12. He pays $1,200 + $10 + $12 + $12 = $1,234, and can later claim the $12 Oklahoma fee as a credit on his Oklahoma return. See the 1% federal remittance tax and card-funded exemptions.

This is information, not tax advice.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account opened from the US holds US dollars and naira, with local details for each, and Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners. Sending from a dollar balance with Send is done in the app, not at an agent's counter, and the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

How much is the Oklahoma wire transfer fee?

$5 for transfers up to $500, and $5 plus 1% of the amount over $500 for larger ones, under Oklahoma Administrative Code 710:95-15-3.

Can I get the Oklahoma remittance fee back?

Yes, as an income tax credit equal to the fee, by filing an Oklahoma individual income tax return with a valid SSN or taxpayer identification number. Keep your receipts.

Do I need an SSN to claim the Oklahoma credit?

No. The rule accepts a valid Social Security number or a taxpayer identification number, such as an ITIN.

Does the Oklahoma fee apply to app transfers?

The rule ties the fee to transactions initiated at a licensee's or agent's location. It does not say how app transfers are treated, so check your receipt for a state fee line.
