Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Nigerians in Diaspora Commission: what it does for US residents

NiDCOM coordinates the diaspora, runs a registry and fronts some schemes. It does not issue passports. Here is how US residents use it.

The short answer

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is the federal body that coordinates Nigerians abroad, organises outreach and advises government on diaspora matters. For someone in the US it is a place to register in the Diaspora Registry, find official guidance (such as the diaspora tax guide it hosts) and reach schemes it fronts, such as the NHF diaspora mortgage. It does not issue passports, NINs or visas; those stay with NIS, NIMC and the missions.

What NiDCOM is

NiDCOM's own About page describes a commission established by the National Assembly with a mandate to coordinate and organise Nigerians in the diaspora and to mobilise their human capital and resources for Nigeria. Its listed functions are coordinating diaspora organisations, outreach, and advising government. It is led by a chairman who is also chief executive and accounting officer, appointed by the President subject to Senate confirmation, for a four-year term renewable once.

Its office is at the Federal Secretariat, Phase 1, Annex 3, 2nd Floor, Abuja. The About page gives +234 (0) 701 4606 361 and admin@nidcom.gov.ng, and a contact page at nidcom.gov.ng/contact-nidcom/.

What it is not

Many US-based Nigerians write to NiDCOM about a stuck passport or a NIN problem. The commission can point you in the right direction, but the services themselves sit elsewhere:

You needWho handles it
Passport renewal, correction, trackingNigeria Immigration Service, through the embassy in Washington DC and the consulates in Atlanta and New York
NIN enrolment or modificationNIMC and its licensed diaspora enrolment partners
Consular letters, authenticationThe embassy or consulate covering your state
Driver's licenceFRSC, in person in Nigeria
VotingINEC, in person in Nigeria

Services a US resident can use

The Diaspora Registry

The About page links a Diaspora Registry at registry.nidcom.gov.ng and a Diaspora Data Mapping Platform. Registering tells the commission where you live and what you do. It does not give you a legal status or a document, and the page does not say that registration is required for any other service.

Official guidance on tax

NiDCOM hosts the NGEX diaspora guide to Nigeria's tax reforms, current as of December 2025. Among other points it says a person in Nigeria for under 183 days is non-resident and taxed only on Nigerian-source income, that income for services physically rendered outside Nigeria is not taxable in Nigeria unless you are tax resident, that dual citizenship does not change tax status, that the NIN serves as tax ID, and that personal remittances and gifts are not taxable income. This is a guide, not advice; for your own position read it in full and take advice.

The NHF diaspora mortgage

NiDCOM's application site sets out terms for a National Housing Fund diaspora mortgage, which NiDCOM verifies. As published, it requires at least 12 months of NHF contributions and that you have not benefited before. Tiers are set by income:

TierMonthly incomeContributionMonthsMaximum loan
BasicUnder $1,000$10024₦50m
Classic$1,000-$2,000$15018₦75m
PremiumOver $2,000$20012₦100m

The terms page states 10% equity, a tenor of up to 10 years, 9% a year, a 1% insurance charge and a 0.75% management fee, with contributions in dollars and the loan booked and repaid in naira. An older Federal Mortgage Bank document gives different figures, so read the current terms on the application site before you contribute. Terms as at October 2026.

Example: on the Classic tier, 18 months at $150 is $2,700 of contributions before you can apply.

Outreach and events

Outreach is one of NiDCOM's listed functions. In practice, community events in US cities are often run with the missions and diaspora associations. Our guide to Nigerian diaspora day events in the US covers what is on offer, and consular outreach visits covers passport sessions outside the big cities.

Using NiDCOM well from the US

Most of what NiDCOM offers is information and coordination, so the value depends on how you use it. A few habits help Nigerians in the US get something useful out of the commission rather than waiting on replies:

  • Go to the source agency first. A query about a passport stuck at the Washington embassy or a NIN record at NIMC is answered faster by that agency. NiDCOM is most useful when you have already tried and need a nudge or a contact.
  • Read the documents it hosts. The tax guide and scheme terms are published as files you can download and keep. Note the date on each one, because terms change and older copies circulate.
  • Check scheme figures against the newest page. The mortgage terms are a good example: two official documents give different equity and loan figures, and only the current terms page should guide a decision.
  • Work through your association. Many US cities have Nigerian community associations that are in regular contact with the missions and with NiDCOM, and they often hear about town halls and programmes first.

How to raise an issue with NiDCOM

  1. Try the agency that owns the service first (the mission, NIS or NIMC) and keep the reference numbers you are given.
  2. If you are stuck, write to NiDCOM through the contact page or admin@nidcom.gov.ng with your full name, US state, the agency involved, application IDs and dates.
  3. Keep copies. The site shows a "Complaints" link but we found no published procedure or response time behind it.

Be careful with anyone who presents themselves as a NiDCOM agent offering paid fast-tracking of passports or NINs. Neither NIS nor NIMC routes payments through NiDCOM.

Where Pryme fits

Schemes like the diaspora mortgage pay out and are repaid in naira while you earn dollars. A Pryme account holds both, with local account details for each currency and Swap showing the rate and the fee before you approve. See how it works.

Questions people ask

What does NiDCOM do for Nigerians in America?

It coordinates diaspora organisations, runs outreach, keeps a Diaspora Registry and fronts some schemes such as the NHF diaspora mortgage. It does not issue passports or NINs.

Can NiDCOM help with my passport?

It can direct you, but passports are issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service through the embassy and consulates. Contact the mission covering your state first.

Is NiDCOM registration compulsory?

Its pages we read do not say it is. The Diaspora Registry is a voluntary way to record where you live and what you do.

How do I contact NiDCOM from the US?

Its About page lists +234 (0) 701 4606 361, admin@nidcom.gov.ng and a contact page on nidcom.gov.ng.
