Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Nigerian name order on UK records: credit check problems

When your surname, first name and middle names appear in different orders across UK records, identity and credit checks can fail. How to align them.

The short answer

Credit and identity checks match your name, date of birth and address across records, so a Nigerian name entered in different orders, or with a middle name in one place and not another, can stop a check matching and lead to a failed application. The fix is to choose your name exactly as on your passport and eVisa, use it everywhere, and correct records that differ with the bank, agency or UKVI.

Nigerian names travel badly through UK forms. A passport may read surname first; a hospital letter may combine two first names; a payroll system may drop the middle name you are known by at home; a landlord may write the name you use socially. Each record looks harmless. Together they can make you look like three different people to an automated check.

Why it matters

UK lenders and banks confirm identity by matching details across sources. Experian's improve-your-score guide says electoral roll information helps lenders confirm your name and address, and that even small mistakes, such as a mistyped address, can affect your score. Starling's documents page says proof of address must match the name on your ID. If the passport, the electoral register and the bank account disagree, the automated match can fail and the application goes to manual review or is declined.

Common mismatches

SituationExample (illustrative)Risk
Surname and forename swappedPassport: OKAFOR, Chukwuemeka; form: Okafor Chukwuemeka entered as forename OkaforRecord filed under the wrong surname
Middle name dropped or addedNgozi Adaeze Eze on passport, Ngozi Eze at workPartial match on some systems
Known-as name usedPassport: Oluwaseun; tenancy: SeunProof of address does not match ID
Married name on one record onlyeVisa in maiden name, bank in married nameStatus check and bank record disagree
Spelling variationMohammed / Muhammad / MohammadTreated as different people

Choose one version and use it everywhere

Your anchor is the name on your passport and eVisa, because those are what a bank checks first. GOV.UK says the details in your UKVI account must match your travel document, and a bank sees your eVisa record through your share code. Then:

  1. Write your full name, in passport order and spelling, on a card you keep with your documents.
  2. Use it on every bank, phone, energy, Council Tax and electoral registration form.
  3. Ask your employer and landlord to use it. A known-as name can go in a separate field if the form has one.
  4. When an agency report arrives, check that it shows that version.

Fixing records that already differ

  • eVisa. If your eVisa has a wrong name, report it. GOV.UK says UKVI aims to fix most reported errors within 5 working days and complex ones within 15.
  • Credit reference agencies. The ICO says you can ask the agency and the original lender to correct inaccurate data; an agency cannot change a lender's data without the lender's agreement. When you ask for your report, the ICO suggests listing any other names used in the last six years.
  • Banks and lenders. Ask them to update their record to match your passport. They then update the agencies.
  • Electoral register. Re-register with the correct name if your entry differs.

When an application fails on identity

If a bank, phone network or lender says it could not verify you, a name mismatch is one of the first things to rule out:

  1. Ask which details did not match. Not every firm will say, but many will tell you whether the problem was identity, address or credit.
  2. Compare the name you typed with your passport, letter for letter, including hyphens and middle names.
  3. Pull your statutory reports and check how your name appears on each.
  4. Correct whichever record is out of line, then wait for the update before applying again, rather than reapplying the same day with a different spelling.

Reapplying repeatedly with variations can add hard searches to your file under several versions of your name, which makes the problem worse. Our guide to hard and soft searches explains why spacing matters.

Changing your name formally

Changing the name you actually use is a separate decision. GOV.UK says you can change your name by deed poll, unenrolled from 16 or enrolled through the High Court from 18 for £53.05, and that you do not need a deed poll to take a spouse's surname; a marriage certificate is enough. Some banks and firms accept only enrolled deed polls.

The Nigerian side moves more slowly. The Nigeria High Commission in London says a passport name change is possible only on marriage or divorce, with set documents, and that a deed poll is not accepted. If you change your name in the UK by deed poll, your Nigerian passport may keep the old name, creating a new mismatch with your UK records. Think it through before you start; for the passport side see Nigerian passport validity and your eVisa.

Where Pryme fits

Name consistency matters on Nigerian records too: the Nigeria High Commission in London asks for a NIN copy that matches your passport when you renew it. The Nigeria library explains how Nigerian credit bureaus work. When you open a Pryme account from the UK, use the same passport name; see how it works. Also read the three UK credit agencies.

Questions people ask

Can a different name order cause a failed credit check?

Yes. Checks match your name, date of birth and address across records, and Experian says even small mistakes can affect your score. Use your passport name and order everywhere.

Should I use my middle name on UK forms?

Use your name exactly as on your passport and eVisa, including middle names if they appear there, so records match.

How do I correct my name on my credit report?

The ICO says to raise it with the agency and the lender that reported it. The lender corrects its record and the agency updates the file.

Can I change my Nigerian passport name with a UK deed poll?

The Nigeria High Commission in London says passport name changes are possible only on marriage or divorce, and a deed poll is not accepted.
