Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Nigerian name change by deed poll from Canada

A Nigerian change of name rests on a sworn deed or affidavit and a newspaper notice. How to do each from Canada, and what the passport office expects.

The short answer

A Nigerian change of name is usually made by a sworn deed poll or court affidavit, then published in a national newspaper; Nigerian passport offices list the affidavit and newspaper publication among the uploads for a name change, with a non-refundable ₦30,000 admin charge for data changes (NIS, April 2026). From Canada you can swear before a Canadian notary and have it authenticated, but ask the receiving Nigerian body first whether it accepts a document sworn abroad.

What a Nigerian name change is made of

In practice a Nigerian change of name is evidenced by a bundle of documents that each agency checks for itself. The Nigeria Immigration Service's passports page lists, for a correction or change of name, uploads including a letter, a newspaper publication, a court affidavit, a state of origin certificate and the passport data page, with an online, non-refundable admin charge. The NIS 2026 service agreement puts the correction-of-data admin fee at ₦30,000 (as at April 2026).

So for most purposes you need two things: a sworn statement of the change (a deed poll or an affidavit of change of name), and proof it was made public (a notice in a national newspaper).

Why a Canadian deed poll is not the whole answer

If you have already changed your name legally in Ontario, see updating Nigerian records after an Ontario name change. This article is for people who want the change to be recognised on Nigerian records using the Nigerian method.

Be aware that Nigerian missions differ. The Nigeria High Commission in Ottawa's published passport page only covers surname changes after marriage or divorce, with a court affidavit of name change and, for marriages in Nigeria, newspaper publication. It does not mention deed polls. Before you start, email the Ottawa passport desk and ask what it accepts for a change other than by marriage.

Swearing the deed from Canada

You have two broad routes:

RouteHow it worksWatch for
Sworn in CanadaSign the deed or affidavit before a Canadian notary; have the notarised document authenticated by your province's competent authority (or Global Affairs Canada for some provinces)Nigeria is not an Apostille Convention party; the Nigerian receiver may also want High Commission legalisation
Sworn in NigeriaA court affidavit sworn before a Commissioner for Oaths at a Nigerian court registryUsually requires you there in person; ask a Nigerian lawyer whether any alternative applies

Global Affairs Canada's guidance sets which authority handles a notarised document: documents notarised in Alberta, Ontario or Saskatchewan go to that province's authority; those notarised in Manitoba, the Atlantic provinces or the territories go to Global Affairs Canada. See notarising Canadian documents for Nigeria.

What the deed should say

  • Your former full name and your new full name, spelt exactly as you want them on your passport and NIN.
  • Your date and place of birth, and your passport number.
  • That you renounce the old name and will use the new one for all purposes.
  • Your address, and your signature before the notary.

Publishing the notice

The newspaper notice is a short paid announcement in a Nigerian national daily giving your old and new names. You can arrange it from Canada through the newspaper's advertising desk or through someone in Nigeria. Keep the full page of the paper, not just a cutting, because agencies want to see the masthead and date. Some foreign bodies set their own timing rules: the Belgian Embassy in Abuja, for instance, wants name-change affidavits backed by a public notice published at least 21 days earlier. Ask each receiving body.

Example

Example only: Tunde, in Winnipeg, wants to drop a middle name. He signs a deed before a Manitoba notary, sends it to Global Affairs Canada for authentication (Manitoba documents go there), asks a cousin in Lagos to place the newspaper notice, then emails the Ottawa passport desk the bundle to confirm it is acceptable before paying any NIS fee.

Using it on Nigerian records, in order

  1. NIN first. The Ottawa High Commission says the NIN must be updated to the new name before you visit the mission. NIMC's diaspora name modification outside Africa was reported at $60 in May 2025. See correcting NIN details.
  2. Passport. Apply for the change through the NIS portal with the deed, newspaper notice and affidavit, and pay the ₦30,000 correction admin fee.
  3. BVN and bank accounts. Your bank updates the BVN; take the new passport and NIN.
  4. Other records: certificates, land documents and pension accounts, each with the same bundle.

Where Pryme fits

Newspaper notices and agency fees are paid in naira. A Pryme account opened from Canada holds NGN alongside USD, GBP and EUR, and sending to a Nigerian account shows the rate and fee before you approve. A verifiable receipt can prove payment to a lawyer or agent.

Questions people ask

Can I do a Nigerian change of name affidavit from Canada?

You can swear a deed or declaration before a Canadian notary and have it authenticated, but ask the Nigerian body that will use it whether it accepts a document sworn abroad.

Does the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa accept a deed poll?

Its published passport page covers only surname changes by marriage or divorce and does not mention deed polls. Ask the passport desk before applying.

How much is a name change on a Nigerian passport?

The NIS 2026 service agreement lists a ₦30,000 non-refundable admin fee for correction of data, as at April 2026, on top of the passport fee.

Do I need to publish my name change in a Nigerian newspaper?

The NIS lists a newspaper publication among the uploads for a name change, so for a passport, yes.
