Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

South Africa

Nigerian High Commission Pretoria: which services it handles

Pretoria publishes no service list we could find; Johannesburg does. What the consulate handles, its fees, and how to confirm the right office first.

The short answer

We found no published website setting out the Pretoria High Commission's consular services in October 2026. The Consulate General in Johannesburg publishes its list: passports, emergency travel certificates, police character certificates, document authentication and letters, mostly at R350 each. Contact Johannesburg first (+27 (0) 11 442 3620, cgjhb@nigerianconsulatesa.org) and ask which office handles your service.

Short answer: we could not find a published website for the High Commission of Nigeria in Pretoria in October 2026, so this page cannot list its services from its own source. The service list that is published comes from the Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg. It covers passports, emergency travel certificates, document authentication, police character certificates and a range of letters. Most Nigerians in South Africa deal with Johannesburg for those. Use this page to work out which office to contact, and confirm with the office before you travel.

High commission or consulate: the general difference

Nigeria has two missions in South Africa: a High Commission in Pretoria and a Consulate General in Johannesburg. Generally, where a country has both, the high commission or embassy is the diplomatic mission to the government and the consulate concentrates on citizen services. Which office handles which service in South Africa is set by the missions themselves, and neither published a split in a form we could find. The Johannesburg consulate's own Missions directory lists Nigerian missions in other countries but no Pretoria entry with an address or services.

What the Johannesburg consulate says it handles

ServiceWhat the Johannesburg pages say (copyright 2023)
Passports (fresh, renewal, lost, name change)Apply on the NIS portal; R350 card-only admin charge before capture
Emergency travel certificateLetter, proof of citizenship, photos, ticket within 30 days; R350
Police character certificateSA police fingerprints, consulate form, data page, photo; R350
Document authenticationAge declaration, driving licence, educational certificates, marital status
LettersMarital status (R350), age declaration (R120), dual citizenship (R350), driver's licence, consular recommendation
DeathsConfirmation of death (R350); repatriation of remains (no fee stated)

The pages do not mention NIN enrolment, birth registration of children born in South Africa, or powers of attorney as separate services. For those, ask either office directly. See where to enrol for NIN in South Africa and registering a child born in South Africa.

How to reach the right office

  1. Start with Johannesburg for any service in the table above: +27 (0) 11 442 3620 or cgjhb@nigerianconsulatesa.org. Those are the contact details its site gives; it does not publish a street address or opening hours on the pages we read.
  2. If you have been told to go to Pretoria, ask for the instruction in writing (an email is enough) with the service name, so you arrive with the right documents.
  3. For anything political, trade or investment related, the Johannesburg site has an Investment page, but formal government-to-government matters sit with the High Commission.
  4. In an emergency (arrest, death, a stranded child), call Johannesburg and ask which officer covers it.

Authentication starts in Abuja, not in South Africa

Several of the consulate's document services only work if a Nigerian ministry has acted first. Its pages say:

  • Age declaration: a High Court sworn affidavit legalised at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FMFA) in Abuja, with the FMFA fee receipt, plus your letter, data page, two photos and an appointment.
  • Educational certificates (WAEC, SSCE, NECO, JAMB, NABTEB, degrees): the certificate attested by the Federal Ministry of Education and legalised by the FMFA, the PIN and serial number from the result-checker scratch card, visa page copies and the FMFA receipt.
  • Marital status for marriage in South Africa: a Nigerian court affidavit legalised at the FMFA, a no-objection letter from the state marriage registry, the foreign partner's marital status statement, consent letters from both, both of you present in person, and a certified translation of any document not in English.
  • Driving licence: your letter, data page, the original Nigerian licence, copies of your visa or residence permit and an appointment.

If someone in Nigeria is handling the Abuja step for you, give them a written list from the consulate's page, so the affidavit is sworn in the right court and legalised before it is posted.

Fees you will meet at either office

The NIS sets passport fees, not the mission. Its 28 August 2025 release said fees for Nigerians abroad stayed at $150 for a 32-page, five-year booklet and $230 for a 64-page, ten-year booklet. Mission charges come on top: the Johannesburg consulate lists R350 for most services, R120 for an age declaration letter and a "50" application fee for a driver's licence letter with no currency given. These figures are from pages dated by copyright 2023; ask whether they still apply.

What to check first

  • Which office the service is handled at, confirmed by phone or email.
  • Whether you need an appointment and how it is made.
  • The fee and how it is paid: card, bank deposit or online.
  • Whether originals or certified copies are needed.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme cannot book consular services. If you are paying naira charges at home while you sort out papers in South Africa, a Pryme account holds naira with local account details and can send to Nigerian banks. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. For passport steps, see renewal at the Johannesburg consulate.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Pretoria and Johannesburg?

Pretoria is the High Commission; Johannesburg is the Consulate General and publishes the citizen services list.

How do I contact the Nigerian mission in South Africa?

The Johannesburg consulate lists +27 (0) 11 442 3620 and cgjhb@nigerianconsulatesa.org.

How much do Nigerian consular services cost in South Africa?

Johannesburg lists R350 for most services and R120 for an age declaration letter (2023 pages).
