Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Nigerian consulate New York: states it covers

The 20 states under the Nigerian consulate in New York, its passport document list and US$30 administrative charge, and where visa applications go.

The short answer

The Consulate General of Nigeria in New York covers 20 states: New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Ohio, Indiana, Connecticut, Illinois, Rhode Island, Iowa, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Minnesota. It handles passports for residents of those states, charging a US$30 administrative fee for processing, while visa applications go through OIS Services at 370 Lexington Avenue.

The 20 states

The consulate publishes its jurisdiction on its own site. Grouped by region for easier reading:

RegionStates under New York
New EnglandMaine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut
Mid-AtlanticNew York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware
Great LakesOhio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota
PlainsIowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota

Two points surprise people. Illinois, so Chicago, is under New York, not Washington. Delaware is under New York too. Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC are not on the list. If your state is not there, your mission is Atlanta or the embassy in Washington; our guide on which mission covers your US state explains how to check.

Passports: what New York asks for

The consulate lists these documents for a renewal or reissue:

  1. A copy of the payment slip, valid for at least three months.
  2. A copy of the acknowledgement slip.
  3. Your most recent Nigerian passport.
  4. A photocopy of the passport data page.
  5. A copy of your appointment confirmation.
  6. A prepaid, self-addressed overnight express or priority USPS envelope, with your phone number on it; keep the tracking number.

For a minor it adds a letter of consent signed by both parents, copies of both parents' Nigerian passport data pages, the child's birth certificate and, for sole custody, the court order.

The NIN rule

The consulate states that all names on the passport and their spelling "must be identical with the NIN registration". If they are not, processing can be delayed and you may have to amend your NIN record or pay again. Check your NIN slip against your passport before you pay the passport fee. The consulate links to the NIMC page of US enrolment centres for anyone who still needs a NIN.

The administrative charge

New York says an administrative charge of US$30 for passport processing is in effect, payable by debit or credit card at the point of sale or by USPS money order. This is separate from the passport fee you pay online to the Nigeria Immigration Service when you apply.

Before your New York appointment

Many applicants under New York travel a long way: Minneapolis, Chicago, Columbus and Omaha are all in its states. A wasted trip is costly, so it pays to work through the file in order.

  1. Compare your NIN record with your passport, letter by letter, including the order of names. Fix the NIN first if they differ.
  2. Pay the passport fee on the NIS portal and print the payment and acknowledgement slips. The consulate wants the payment slip to be valid for at least three months.
  3. Book the appointment for New York, not another mission, and print the confirmation.
  4. Buy a prepaid USPS overnight express or priority envelope, address it to yourself, write your phone number on it, and note the tracking number.
  5. Bring the old passport itself as well as a photocopy of the data page, and the means to pay the US$30 charge by card or money order.
  6. For a child, bring the consent letter signed by both parents, both parents' data pages and the birth certificate.

The consulate's page does not state processing times, so do not book international travel against a promised date. Our guide to what to bring to a New York appointment goes through the day itself.

Visas

Foreign nationals applying for a Nigerian visa in the consulate's states go through OIS Services, not the consulate counter. The consulate says the earlier visa centre is temporarily not accepting applications and gives OIS's details:

Address
370 Lexington Avenue, Suite 613, New York, NY 10017
Phone
917 900 1114
Email
infony@oisservices.com

Most short-visit visas now start on the NIS e-visa portal. A US spouse or child should read our guide to visas for a US spouse or children first.

Services the page does not cover

The consulate's main page is built around passports and visas. It does not describe repatriation of remains, collection by a representative, change of name or NYSC matters. For those, contact the consulate before you travel to it, and use the requirements published by other Nigerian missions in the US only as a guide to what may be asked, not as New York's rule.

Where Pryme fits

Paying a Nigerian fee from New York often means converting dollars at a moment that suits you. A Pryme account opened from the US holds dollars and naira with local details for each; Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank; outside Nigeria Pryme works through regulated partners.
