Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Legal notices on a Nigerian company website: what to include

The company details, privacy notice and terms a Nigerian company website should carry under CAMA 2020 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

The short answer

A Nigerian company's website should show its registered name and RC number, because CAMA 2020 section 729 treats digital platforms as places of business and CAC restated the rule in April 2025. If the site collects personal data, the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 requires a privacy notice explaining who you are, the lawful basis and purpose, who receives the data, how long you keep it and people's rights, including the right to complain to the NDPC. Terms of sale or use and a contact route complete the set.

Company details

Section 729 of CAMA 2020 requires a company to display its registered name and RC number at its places of business and on letterheads and signage. A CAC public notice of 29 April 2025, summarised by Templars, treated the internet as a place of business and set a deadline of 10 June 2025 for businesses trading under unregistered names or acronyms to comply. Section 863 makes trading under a name other than the registered name an offence. Brand names are allowed if the registered name is displayed.

  • Registered name exactly as on the CAC certificate, including 'Limited' or 'Ltd'.
  • RC number.
  • Registered office address (good practice, and expected by many customers and banks).
  • A working contact email and phone number.
  • If you trade under a brand, a line such as 'Kora Kitchens is a trading name of Adebayo Okafor Ventures Ltd, RC 1234567' (example).

Put these in the footer of every page, not only on an 'About' page.

Privacy notice

The NDPA applies to controllers and processors in Nigeria and to those outside Nigeria who process data of people in Nigeria (section 2(2)). If your site has a contact form, newsletter sign-up, account login, checkout or analytics, it collects personal data. Section 27(1) lists what you must tell people when you collect it:

Item (NDPA s.27(1))What to write
Identity and contact details of the controllerCompany name, RC number, address, privacy contact email
Lawful basis and purposesFor example contract (to deliver orders), consent (newsletter), legal obligation (tax records)
RecipientsPayment providers, delivery partners, hosting and email services, by category
Data subject rightsAccess, copy, correction, erasure, restriction (s.34), objection including to direct marketing (s.36)
Retention periodHow long each type of data is kept
Right to complainTo the Nigeria Data Protection Commission
Automated decision-makingWhether any decisions are made solely by automated means

Other points to cover where they apply:

  • Consent must be provable by you; silence or inactivity is not consent, and it can be withdrawn at any time (section 26, as summarised on Mondaq). Pre-ticked newsletter boxes do not meet this.
  • Marketing: a Lagos High Court held in December 2024 that continuing marketing emails after a request to stop infringed privacy, and that an opt-out link alone was not a shield (Templars note, February 2025).
  • Transfers abroad: data sent outside Nigeria, for example to hosting in Europe or a CRM in the US, needs a basis under sections 41 to 43. Owners abroad who store customer data on their own systems should say so.
  • Breaches: a controller notifies the NDPC within 72 hours of becoming aware of a breach likely to risk people's rights (section 40).

Our guide to NDPA compliance for companies run from abroad covers registration as a data controller of major importance, audit returns and data protection officers, which the NDPC's 2025 implementation directive (GAID) sets out.

Terms of use and terms of sale

No single statute dictates the wording, but a site that sells or takes bookings should state, in plain language:

  1. Who the contract is with (the registered company, not the brand).
  2. Prices, currency and when payment is taken.
  3. Delivery or service timelines.
  4. Cancellation, refund and returns rules.
  5. How complaints are handled and how long a reply takes.
  6. Governing law (usually Nigerian law and the courts of a named state).
  7. Limits on liability, written fairly and in clear terms.

Owners abroad: points that are easy to miss

  • The website is often built by a freelancer who copies a privacy policy from another country's template. Check it names your Nigerian company and the NDPC, not a foreign regulator only.
  • If the site is hosted or the mailing list is held abroad, the transfer rules in sections 41 to 43 apply.
  • Keep the domain and hosting accounts in the company's name, so the legal pages stay under your control if the developer leaves.

Penalties if you get it wrong

Under section 48 of the NDPA, the NDPC can order a remedy, compensation and an account of profits, and impose a remedial fee of up to the greater of ₦10,000,000 or 2% of annual gross revenue for data controllers of major importance, or the greater of ₦2,000,000 or 2% for others (NDPC FAQ). Individuals can also sue.

A checklist for the site

  • Footer: registered name, RC number, registered office, contact.
  • Privacy notice covering every item in section 27(1).
  • Consent box for marketing, unticked by default, and a working unsubscribe.
  • Terms of sale or use, dated, with a version history.
  • A named person who answers privacy requests.

Where Pryme fits

The Compliance agent on a Pryme Business Account can keep a register of privacy requests and remind you of review dates for your notices. A person approves any reply that is sent.

Questions people ask

Must a Nigerian company show its RC number on its website?

Yes. CAMA 2020 section 729 requires the registered name and RC number at places of business, and CAC's April 2025 notice treated digital platforms as places of business.

Does my Nigerian website need a privacy policy?

If it collects personal data, the NDPA 2023 requires you to give people the information in section 27(1), usually through a privacy notice.

Does the NDPA apply if my company is run from the UK?

It applies to controllers outside Nigeria that process data of people in Nigeria, and to any controller operating in Nigeria.

What is the penalty for breaking the NDPA?

A remedial fee of up to the greater of ₦10m or 2% of annual gross revenue for controllers of major importance, or ₦2m or 2% for others, under section 48.
