Ten years, one trunk

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

Can I buy the Nigeria diaspora bond from Ghana?

The only Nigeria diaspora bond matured in 2022 and was offered in the UK, US and Nigeria. What a Ghana resident can buy instead.

The short answer

Not at the moment. Nigeria's only diaspora bond, a US$300 million 5.625% bond issued in June 2017, matured on 27 June 2022, and no new diaspora bond had been announced by the DMO as at October 2026. The 2017 offer was marketed in the UK, US and Nigeria, not Ghana, so a Ghana resident would have depended on the selling restrictions of any new issue.

What the 2017 diaspora bond was

The bond was issued by the Federal Republic of Nigeria and marketed to Nigerians abroad. Its pricing notice on the London Stock Exchange sets out the terms:

Name
5.625% Diaspora Bonds due 2022
Size
US$300,000,000, priced at 100%
Issue and maturity
27 June 2017 to 27 June 2022, no early redemption
Coupons
Semi-annual, 27 June and 27 December
Denominations
US$2,000 and multiples of US$1,000 above that
Where offered
The United Kingdom, the United States and Nigeria, and elsewhere only where it could be sold lawfully without a public offer
How to apply
Through a stockbroker or intermediary, not to the issuer directly

The maturity date has passed. Our research did not find a DMO notice confirming the final repayment, but the bond's own terms set 27 June 2022 as the date. The full background is in the 2017 diaspora bond facts.

Could someone in Ghana have bought it?

The 2017 notice names three offer jurisdictions. Ghana is not among them. Outside those countries the bonds could be sold only where no public offer was needed, which in practice usually means professional or institutional investors. A Nigerian retail investor in Accra therefore had no public offer to subscribe to, though a broker could in principle have bought the listed bond for a client on the secondary market where its rules allowed.

Is a new diaspora bond coming?

There has been talk, not an issue.

  • In April 2022, Ecofin, citing Bloomberg, reported Nigeria was "considering" a second diaspora bond, with the DMO reviewing offshore rules to make retail products possible.
  • In October 2024, News Central reported CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso saying a diaspora bond in the US "could be on the horizon in 2025".
  • As at October 2026 we found no DMO announcement, terms or offer jurisdictions for a new diaspora bond. Status updates are tracked in our diaspora bond status page.

If one is launched, the question for a Ghana resident will again be the selling restrictions: which countries it is offered in, and whether retail investors outside them can buy.

What Nigeria has issued instead, and who can buy it

InstrumentCurrencyWho it is aimed atRoute from Ghana
FGN Eurobonds (e.g. US$2.35bn, November 2025)US dollarsEligible counterparties and professional clients only, per the DMOThrough an international broker that accepts you as a professional client
FGN Savings BondNairaRetail, including the diasporaDMO portal or appointed stockbroker, from ₦5,000
FGN bondsNairaDealers and investors with ₦50m+ at auction; smaller amounts on the secondary marketNigerian bank or broker

The November 2025 Eurobonds, 2036 and 2046 lines priced at 8.6308% and 9.1297%, were listed in London, on FMDQ and on the NGX, but the DMO stated a target market of eligible counterparties and professional clients. That is not the retail access the diaspora bond offered. For a retail Nigerian in Ghana who wants dollar exposure to Nigerian government debt, Nigerian dollar mutual funds that hold Eurobonds are the usual route: see Nigerian mutual funds from Ghana.

If you want to be ready for a future issue

Diaspora bonds have so far been dollar instruments sold through brokers, in round amounts of at least US$2,000. Being ready means having the pieces in place before an offer window opens, which for the 2017 bond was short:

  • An investment account with a broker in a country where an offer is made, or one that confirms it can buy for Ghana-resident clients.
  • Dollars ready to deploy, held in an account in your name so the source is easy to show.
  • Current identification: a valid Nigerian passport, and your Ghana residence documents if the broker asks where you live.
  • A view on how long you can lock the money away. The 2017 bond ran five years with no early redemption by the issuer; selling before maturity meant finding a buyer in the market.

None of this commits you to anything, and if no Ghana-accessible offer appears, the same dollars can go into another instrument.

What to check before buying anything sold as a "diaspora bond"

  1. Look for the instrument on the DMO website. A genuine federal issue will be announced there.
  2. Check the seller is registered with the SEC Nigeria and, for a Ghana-based firm, with SEC Ghana.
  3. Read the offer jurisdictions and investor categories. If Ghana and retail investors are not covered, ask how the seller is allowed to sell to you.
  4. Pay only into accounts named in official documents, never into a personal account.

The SEC Nigeria warns that unrealistic promises and missing regulatory approvals are the common signs of an investment scam.

Where Pryme fits

If you hold dollars for a future issue or a dollar fund, a Pryme account keeps them in dollars, with naira, pounds and euros alongside, until you choose to convert with Swap.

Questions people ask

Is there a Nigeria diaspora bond in 2026?

Not as at October 2026. The only one, issued in 2017, matured on 27 June 2022, and no new issue had been announced by the DMO.

What was the interest rate on the Nigeria diaspora bond?

5.625% a year, paid every six months, on a five-year US dollar bond.

Where was the 2017 diaspora bond offered?

In the United Kingdom, the United States and Nigeria, and elsewhere only where no public offer was required.

Can a Nigerian in Ghana buy Nigerian Eurobonds?

The DMO aimed the November 2025 Eurobonds at eligible counterparties and professional clients. Retail investors usually get exposure through dollar mutual funds.
