Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

National Tax ID vs TIN: what changed and what you need

The 2025 tax law makes a Tax ID compulsory for taxable persons. How it relates to your old TIN, NIN and CAC number, and where it is now demanded.

The short answer

The Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 requires every taxable person to register and obtain a Taxpayer Identification (Tax ID). For individuals the NIN serves as the Tax ID, and for companies and other registered bodies it is generated from CAC details; the NRS Rev360 platform now issues the National Tax ID that businesses are being asked to quote in place of the old TIN.

What the law now says

Section 4 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 (NTAA), in force from 1 January 2026, says: "Every taxable person shall register with the relevant tax authority and obtain a Taxpayer Identification ("Tax ID")". The Act then sets the rules around it:

  • One person, one ID: a taxable person with a valid Tax ID must not apply for or be issued another (s.7(5)), and anyone who finds duplicates should report them for unification (s.7(6)).
  • Not transferable: an ID issued to one person cannot be used by another (s.7(7)).
  • Refusals in writing: if the authority refuses to issue an ID, it must give reasons within five working days (s.7(2)).
  • Registration without asking: the authority may register and issue a Tax ID to someone who should have applied but did not (s.7(3)).
  • Changes within 30 days: changes of name, trading name, address, phone, email, significant shareholders or partners must be notified within 30 days (s.9).

Tax ID vs TIN: what actually changed

The old Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) was issued by FIRS or state tax authorities and checked through the Joint Tax Board. The 2025 law renames the identifier and makes it the single key for all tax dealings. A Premium Times explainer on the Act (November 2025) summarised the mapping:

WhoWhat serves as the Tax IDNotes
IndividualsNational Identification Number (NIN)Existing TIN stays valid, per the explainer
Companies, business names, incorporated trustees, NGOsGenerated from CAC registration detailsNo separate application if already registered
Non-resident suppliers to Nigerian customersMust register for a Tax IDPassive-investment-only non-residents may only need to provide information (NTAA s.6)
Government ministries, departments, agencies, LGsMust register (s.5)

Since then the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has moved to its Rev360 platform, launched on 30 April 2026 to replace TaxPro Max, according to a Templars client alert. A customer advisory from APM Terminals Onne dated 13 July 2026 states that the "National Tax ID generated on REV360 becomes the primary taxpayer identifier, replacing the current Tax Identification Number (TIN)", and asked its customers to update their records by 31 July 2026.

Where you need it

Section 8 of the NTAA lists the uses. A Tax ID must be:

  1. stated on every return, notice, correspondence or document used for tax compliance;
  2. stated on documents prepared or issued for a transaction; and
  3. a condition for entering into a contract with any federal or state ministry, department or agency or local government.

Section 8(2) adds that anyone providing banking, insurance, stock-broking or other financial services must ensure every taxable person provides a Tax ID. Techeconomy (December 2025) reported that from 1 January 2026 a valid Tax ID would be required for banking and financial transactions. That is why banks and fintechs may ask business customers for it at onboarding or during a records update.

Penalties for not registering

Section 100 of the NTAA sets the penalties: ₦50,000 for the first month of failure to register and ₦25,000 for each later month. A statutory body or company that awards a contract to an unregistered person faces a penalty of ₦5,000,000, which is why corporate buyers now insist on a Tax ID before paying suppliers.

What to do now

  1. Individuals: make sure your NIN is correct and linked to your BVN; that is the base of your Tax ID.
  2. Registered businesses: confirm your CAC details (especially email) are current, then check your record on Rev360.
  3. If you had a TIN, find the National Tax ID now attached to your record and update invoices, letterheads and supplier forms.
  4. Notify changes within 30 days of them happening.
  5. If you pause trading, notify the authority within 30 days so the ID is classed as dormant rather than cancelled (s.10).

For the registration screens, see how to register on Rev360, and for which ID a sole trader quotes, sole trader vs company tax IDs.

Common Tax ID problems and fixes

  • Two IDs for one business: the Act forbids a second Tax ID (s.7(5)) and asks anyone who finds duplicates to report them for unification (s.7(6)). Ask the NRS to merge them rather than using whichever is convenient.
  • Details that do not match: a Tax ID generated from CAC data carries the CAC record's name, address and email. If those are out of date, update the CAC record first.
  • Business paused: notify within 30 days of stopping; the ID is classed as dormant and the same ID is re-issued when you restart (s.10).
  • Business closed: on permanent cessation the authority deregisters the ID, and outstanding returns should be filed first.
  • Refused registration: the authority must give written reasons within five working days (s.7(2)); keep the letter and use it to correct the problem or complain.

Where Pryme fits

When you open a Pryme Business Account, you may be asked for your Tax ID as part of verification, in line with the duty on financial service providers. This article is information on the law, not tax advice.

Questions people ask

Is my TIN still valid in Nigeria?

A Premium Times explainer said existing TINs remain valid, but NRS has since moved to Rev360, where a National Tax ID is the primary identifier. Check Rev360 for the ID now linked to your record.

Is my NIN my tax ID?

For individuals, the NIN serves as the Tax ID under the 2025 framework, according to the Premium Times explainer.

How do companies get the new Tax ID?

For CAC-registered bodies it is generated from CAC details. New taxpayers register on the NRS self-service portal (Rev360).

What is the penalty for not having a Tax ID in Nigeria?

₦50,000 for the first month and ₦25,000 for each month after, under NTAA 2025 s.100. A company that awards a contract to an unregistered person can be charged ₦5,000,000.
