Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Business

NDA template for a Nigerian small business

A copyable non-disclosure agreement for staff, suppliers and partners in Nigeria, with what counts as confidential and what enforcement really looks like.

The short answer

A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is a contract in which someone promises not to use or reveal your confidential information; in Nigeria it is enforced like any other contract, mainly through damages or a court order. It works best when it defines confidential information precisely, excludes what is already public, and sets a reasonable time limit; it cannot be used to stop a former employee from working altogether.

Small businesses share sensitive information every day: a supplier sees your volumes, a developer sees your customer database, a new sales hire learns your margins. An NDA does not stop a determined person from leaking, but it sets expectations, gives you a basis to act, and often deters casual misuse. This guide explains what to cover and gives a template you can adapt for staff, suppliers and potential partners.

What counts as confidential information

Do not count on general law to work out what you meant to protect; for a small business the written definition does most of the work. A useful definition lists categories that apply to your business, for example:

  • Customer and supplier lists, contact details and order histories.
  • Cost prices, margins, price lists not yet published, and discount terms.
  • Recipes, formulas, product designs, processes and software code.
  • Business plans, expansion targets, tender bids and investor information.
  • Staff salary data and personal data of customers.

Equally important are the exclusions. Information already public, already known to the recipient before you shared it, received lawfully from someone else, or which must be disclosed by law or a court order should not be confidential. Courts are wary of NDAs that try to cover everything.

One template, three uses

Who signsTypePoints to adjust
EmployeeOne-wayPut it in or alongside the employment contract; cover use of personal data and return of devices
Supplier or contractorOne-wayLimit use to the job; require their staff to be bound too
Potential partner or investorMutualBoth sides disclose; consider pairing with an MoU

Template: non-disclosure agreement

  • NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT dated [date]
  • Between [Disclosing party, RC/BN number, address] (the Discloser) and [Recipient, address] (the Recipient). [For a mutual NDA, each party is both Discloser and Recipient.]
  • 1. Purpose. The Discloser will share information with the Recipient only for [describe purpose, e.g. supplying packaging / evaluating a distribution partnership / employment as sales officer] (the Purpose).
  • 2. Confidential Information means all information, in any form, disclosed by the Discloser relating to [list categories], whether or not marked confidential.
  • 3. Exclusions. Confidential Information does not include information that (a) is or becomes public other than through the Recipient’s breach; (b) the Recipient already knew lawfully; (c) the Recipient receives lawfully from a third party without restriction; or (d) must be disclosed by law, regulation or court order, in which case the Recipient will tell the Discloser first where lawful.
  • 4. Obligations. The Recipient will (a) use Confidential Information only for the Purpose; (b) not disclose it to anyone except its staff or advisers who need it for the Purpose and are bound by equal duties; (c) protect it with at least reasonable care.
  • 5. Return. On request or at the end of the Purpose, the Recipient will return or delete Confidential Information and confirm this in writing.
  • 6. Duration. These duties last for [two/three] years after the last disclosure, and for trade secrets and personal data for as long as they remain confidential.
  • 7. Remedies. The Recipient accepts that damages may not be enough and that the Discloser may seek an injunction in addition to other remedies.
  • 8. No licence. Nothing in this agreement transfers ownership of any information or intellectual property.
  • 9. Law. Nigerian law governs this agreement; the courts of [State] have jurisdiction.
  • Signed: [Discloser name, title] ____ [Recipient name, title] ____ Date ____

Enforcement: what actually happens

If someone breaches the NDA, your realistic options are a demand letter, then a claim for damages, or an application for an injunction to stop further use. Each needs evidence: the signed NDA, proof of what you shared, and proof of the misuse. Keep a log of what you send to whom.

For employees, be careful not to dress a non-compete up as an NDA. Nigerian courts treat restraints on working as prima facie unenforceable unless reasonable. In Interswitch v Esumeh (NICN, 2022) a one-year worldwide bar was held unreasonable, and in iROKOtv v Ugwu (NICN, 2020) a two-year post-employment bar introduced after the employee started was not enforced. An NDA that protects specific information is far easier to defend than a clause that stops someone working in your industry.

What to check before you sign or send one

  1. Is the purpose specific? Vague purposes give the recipient room to argue.
  2. Are the categories of information ones you actually share?
  3. Is the duration reasonable for the information involved?
  4. Is the right legal entity signing on both sides?
  5. Have you kept a copy and a record of what you disclosed?

Pair the NDA with the right main contract: an employment contract for staff, a service agreement for contractors, or an MoU for early partnership talks.

Where Pryme fits

Information about money is often the most sensitive you hold. A Pryme Business Account uses an authenticator app and transaction PIN rather than SMS codes (see security), and its business agents act within set limits, with a person approving above a ceiling and actions recorded, which helps you see who handled what.

Questions people ask

Is an NDA enforceable in Nigeria?

Yes, as a contract, if it is clear, signed by the right parties and reasonable in scope and duration. Remedies are damages or an injunction through the courts.

How long should an NDA last?

Two to three years after the last disclosure is common for business information; trade secrets and personal data can be protected for as long as they stay confidential.

Can I stop an ex-staff member from working for a competitor with an NDA?

An NDA can stop them using your confidential information, not from working. Non-compete restraints are judged for reasonableness and Nigerian courts have struck down wide ones.

Does an NDA need to be stamped in Nigeria?

Stamping affects whether some documents can be used as evidence. Check current stamp duty rules with a lawyer if you expect to rely on the NDA in court.
