Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Parents in Nigeria funding your house deposit: moving the money

How parents in Nigeria can move money legally for a deposit abroad, the transfer limits that apply, and the paperwork mortgage lenders ask for.

The short answer

Parents who already hold foreign currency in a Nigerian domiciliary account can send it by direct transfer, up to US$10,000 a day under the CBN's 2026 FX Manual, with no Form A. Your lender will then want a signed gift letter and evidence of where the money came from; one UK lender, Nationwide, asks for six months of the donor's bank statements when the donor is outside the EEA.

Two separate problems: moving the money and proving it

A gifted deposit from Nigeria has to clear two hurdles. First, the money has to leave Nigeria through a legal channel. Second, your lender and conveyancer abroad have to be satisfied about where it came from, because anti-money-laundering rules require them to check source of funds. Most delays happen at the second stage, so plan the paperwork before the first transfer.

Moving the money out of Nigeria

If your parents already hold foreign currency

The CBN Foreign Exchange Manual 2026, in force from 1 June 2026, removed the Form A requirement for outward remittances by holders of self-funded domiciliary accounts and allows direct telegraphic transfers of up to US$10,000 a day (Mondaq, Pavestones Legal, June 2026). This is the cleanest route: the dollars, pounds or euros go from their account to yours with a SWIFT record. Ask their bank for the transfer confirmation (often an MT103) each time; see MT103 as proof of payment.

If your parents hold only naira

Converting naira for a gift abroad is harder. The official windows for individuals are tied to set purposes; Nairametrics' July 2026 report on the CBN's bureau de change rules lists personal travel, business travel, school fees and medical bills as eligible. A gift for a property deposit is not on that list, so your parents should ask their bank which channel, if any, applies and what documents it needs. Avoid informal currency swaps: they break the paper trail your lender needs.

Worked example

Example only. Your parents plan to give US$36,000 from their domiciliary account. At US$10,000 a day, that takes at least four transfer days (three of US$10,000 and one of US$6,000). Several transfers on consecutive days are normal under a daily cap, but tell your lender in advance and keep every confirmation together, so the pattern is not mistaken for an attempt to split a payment; see splitting transfers.

What lenders ask for

Each lender sets its own rules, so ask yours early. Two published examples from the UK show what to expect:

LenderWhat its published criteria say
Nationwide (intermediary criteria, Oct 2026)Gifts accepted if no conditions attached, no maximum; gifted deposit form for £10,000 or more; donor outside the EEA: six months of the donor's bank statements plus the form (three months inside the EEA); may query third-party or cash transactions of £5,000 or more; gifts funded by overseas companies (director's loans, dividends from a non-UK business) and community saving plans not accepted
United Trust Bank (source of funds sheet)A gift needs a gift letter stating source and amount; overseas funds need international bank statements or proof of transfer; each source documented separately

A gift that the lender thinks is really a loan, or that gives the donor a share in the property, may be refused or treated differently, so the wording of the gift letter matters.

The paperwork pack

  1. A signed gift letter from each parent: names, relationship, amount, that it is a gift with no repayment and no interest in the property.
  2. Copies of your parents' ID.
  3. Their bank statements for the period your lender asks for, showing the money building up or arriving.
  4. Evidence of where it came from: salary or pension statements, a property or land sale agreement, a fixed deposit maturity advice, or an inheritance document.
  5. Each transfer confirmation from the Nigerian bank.
  6. Your own statement showing each transfer arriving.
  7. Certified translations of anything not in English, if the lender asks.

If the source is a sale of land or property in Nigeria, gather the sale agreement and the payment record; see moving land sale proceeds abroad.

Tax on both sides

In Nigeria, a commentary on the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 by Adeola Oyinlade (Mondaq, January 2026) lists gifts other than inheritance among exempt gains. Where you live, gifts from parents can have tax consequences, for example if a parent dies within a set period; the rules differ by country. See money from family in Nigeria taxed where you live. This is information, not tax advice.

Timing

Start collecting documents before you make an offer. Lenders often check source of funds late in the process, and a missing statement can hold up completion. Moving the money a few weeks early into an account in your name, with a clear trail, usually makes the final checks quicker. Our companion piece gifted deposits from parents in Nigeria covers lender conversations in more depth.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account holds GBP, USD and EUR with local account details, so the gift can arrive in the currency your purchase needs. Statements show each incoming payment, and through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai you can generate a verifiable statement that anyone can check is genuine and unaltered (receipts and statements). Whether a lender accepts a particular statement is the lender's decision. See multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

Can my parents send money from Nigeria for my house deposit?

Yes, through a bank. From a domiciliary account they can send up to US$10,000 a day directly under the 2026 FX Manual. Converting naira for this purpose is harder; ask their bank.

What documents do mortgage lenders need for a gift from Nigeria?

Usually a signed gift letter, the donor's ID and bank statements, and evidence of where the money came from. Nationwide asks for six months of statements for donors outside the EEA.

Will several transfers from Nigeria cause problems?

Not if each is documented and you warn the lender. Daily limits mean a large gift may arrive in parts.

Is a gift from my parents taxed in Nigeria?

A 2026 commentary on the Nigeria Tax Act lists gifts other than inheritance among exempt gains. Check the rules where you live too.
