Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

Running a sales pipeline in several currencies

Deals in naira, dollars, pounds and euros make pipelines and forecasts harder to read. How to keep currency honest, with and without an AI agent.

The short answer

Keep every deal in the currency the customer will pay, convert to one reporting currency only for totals, and record the rate and date used. An AI agent can do this consistently, flag deals where exchange movements change the value materially, and keep quotes in the right currency, while pricing and FX decisions stay with a person.

Businesses that sell across borders often run their pipeline in one currency because the spreadsheet only has one column for value. A US$20,000 deal is entered as its naira or sterling equivalent on the day it was quoted, and nobody updates it. Months later the pipeline total is a mix of old rates, and nobody can say what is really in it. For businesses whose costs and sales are in different currencies, this is not a rounding problem; it can change whether a deal is profitable.

Rules for a multicurrency pipeline

  1. Deal currency is the customer's currency. Record each deal in the currency on the quote and the invoice.
  2. One reporting currency. Choose the currency you think in, usually where your main costs are, for totals and forecasts.
  3. Stated rates. Convert at a rate you can name, with its source and date, and use the same rate for every deal in a report.
  4. Separate the two effects. When the total changes, show how much came from deals moving and how much from rates moving.
  5. Price per currency. Keep a price list for each currency you sell in, rather than converting a single list on the fly.

The last rule matters more than it seems. Converting a sterling price into dollars at today's rate produces odd numbers and lets your price drift with the market. Most businesses set deliberate prices per currency and review them when rates move significantly.

Choosing the reporting currency

The reporting currency should be the one your decisions are made in. For a Nigerian business paying staff and rent in naira, that is usually naira, even if half its sales are in dollars. For a UK firm with a Nigerian delivery team, it may be sterling, with a second view in naira for the team's costs. Some businesses keep two reporting views: one in the main cost currency for cash planning, one in a stable currency such as US dollars for comparing performance over time when the local currency has moved a great deal.

Whichever you choose, keep it fixed. Switching the reporting currency from quarter to quarter makes trends impossible to read. And make the rate source explicit: an official rate such as those published by the Central Bank of Nigeria or the Bank of England, the rate your account offers, or another market reference. Different sources can differ materially, especially in markets where official and parallel rates diverge, and our guide to hidden FX margins explains why the rate you are offered matters.

What changes in the forecast

Forecasting is hard enough in one currency: Gartner reported in 2020 that fewer than half of sales leaders and sellers had high confidence in their forecast accuracy. A forecast in several currencies needs one more step than a single-currency one: the rate assumption. Consider an illustrative pipeline reported in naira.

DealCurrencyValueWeightWeighted valueAt ₦1,500/US$ and ₦2,000/£
Retail fit-outNGN₦45,000,00040%₦18,000,000₦18,000,000
UK distributorGBP£30,00040%£12,000₦24,000,000
US software clientUSDUS$25,00075%US$18,750₦28,125,000
Total₦70,125,000

The rates in the table are illustrative, not current. If the naira moves 10% against both foreign currencies before these deals close, the reported total changes by about ₦5.2 million without a single customer doing anything. That is why the report should state its rates and show the currency effect separately.

Where an AI agent helps

  • Quotes always go out in the customer's currency, from that currency's price list.
  • Every deal carries its own currency; totals are converted at one stated rate per report.
  • The agent flags deals where rate movements since quoting have shifted the value or margin beyond a threshold you set.
  • It can show, each week, how much of the change in the pipeline is from sales activity and how much from rates.
  • It passes won deals to finance in the invoiced currency, so receivables match what the customer will pay.

What the agent should not do is decide when to convert money, how much currency risk to carry, or whether to change prices because a rate moved. Those are business decisions with real cost, and they belong with the owner or finance lead. The agent prepares the facts; a person decides.

It also helps at the end of the deal. When an invoice is paid, the agent can compare the amount received with the amount quoted and tell finance whether any difference came from fees, a rate or a short payment, so it is resolved quickly rather than discovered at month-end.

Pricing and currency risk

When you quote in a currency other than your cost currency, you carry risk between quote and payment. Common responses include short quote validity periods, pricing in your cost currency where customers accept it, adding a currency clause for long projects, or holding receipts in the currency you will need to spend later. None is right for everyone. For larger exposures, talk to an adviser. Our explainers on hedging currency risk and foreign currency accounting cover the background.

Illustrative. A London consultancy quotes a Lagos client ₦60m for a six-month project, with costs mostly in sterling. The agent flags that the naira has weakened 8% since the quote and that the project's sterling margin has fallen from 30% to about 24%. The founder decides to keep the price, which was already accepted, but sets future naira quotes with 30-day validity and a review clause for projects over three months.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account is multicurrency, with NGN, USD, GBP and EUR and local details for each, and the Sales agent weights the pipeline across the currencies you trade in. Conversions between currencies are a decision for a person, and the Finance agent keeps the books in each currency. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Which currency should my pipeline be in?

Keep each deal in the customer's currency and convert to one reporting currency only for totals, at a stated rate and date.

Should I convert my price list automatically?

Usually not. Set deliberate prices per currency and review them when rates move significantly.

How do exchange rates affect my forecast?

They change the reported total even if no deal moves. Show the currency effect separately so you can see real sales progress.

Can an AI agent decide when to convert currency?

It should not. It can show exposure and flag rate moves; the decision to convert belongs with a person.
