Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Small business

Managing money across several branches in Nigeria

How Nigerian businesses with two or more branches can collect, control and reconcile money per branch while keeping one clear view at head office.

The short answer

Give each branch its own collection account or account number, so every payment is tagged to the branch that earned it. Let branch managers spend only within set limits, move surplus money to a central account on a fixed schedule, and reconcile each branch daily. Head office then sees one picture without branches mixing their money.

Why branches lose track of money

When a business opens its second or third outlet, the owner usually keeps one bank account and adds more staff to it. Within a few months nobody can say which branch made which sale, which branch paid which supplier, or why the account is short. Disputes follow: one branch manager blames another, and the owner cannot tell who is right.

The fix is structural. Decide how money flows in, how it flows out and how it is reported, and give each branch its own lane.

Money coming in: one lane per branch

  • A dedicated collection account or account number per branch. Customers at the Ikeja branch pay into Ikeja's details; Lekki's customers pay into Lekki's. Every credit is tagged automatically.
  • Separate details per till for large branches, so cashiers see only their own payments. Our guide to virtual accounts explains how businesses do this.
  • Branch name on every receipt and invoice, so customer queries go to the right place.
  • Online and delivery orders tagged to the branch that fulfils them.

Money going out: limits and a central treasury

Branches need some spending power for daily operations: diesel, cleaning, small repairs. They should not be paying large suppliers, rent or salaries on their own.

Payment typeWho paysApproval
Daily operating spendsBranch managerWithin branch limit
Local supplier top-upsBranch managerAbove branch limit: head office
Main suppliersHead officeFinance and owner
Rent, utilities, salariesHead officeOwner or finance lead
Refunds to customersBranch, within a small limitAbove it: head office

On a fixed schedule, daily or weekly, move each branch's surplus to a central account. That keeps branch balances small, which limits what can go wrong, and puts cash where the business can plan with it. See who should approve payments for how to set the limits.

Cash at branches

If branches take cash, the CBN's revised cash policy from 1 January 2026 still applies to your business as a whole: corporate withdrawals are limited to ₦5 million a week across all channels, with a 5% charge above that. Branches should bank cash takings promptly and push customers towards transfers. Each branch should run its own small petty cash float on a fixed amount, counted at every shift handover.

Stock moved between branches

Branches often lend each other stock: Lekki runs out of a fast-selling item and Ikeja sends ten cartons across. If nobody records it, Ikeja looks short and Lekki looks unusually profitable. Treat every movement as an internal transfer note, signed out by the sending branch and signed in by the receiving one, with quantity and cost. No money needs to move between the branch accounts, but head office should be able to see the transfers when comparing branch results. The same applies to shared costs such as a delivery van or a central kitchen: agree a simple way to share them, such as by sales, and apply it every month.

When one person covers two branches

Area managers and relief cashiers who work across branches should log in under their own name at each site, never under a colleague's. If a shortage appears, you need to know who was on the till. Give relief staff the lower of the two branches' spending limits, not the higher. When a branch manager is on leave, name the cover in writing before they go.

Reconcile each branch, every day

Each branch closes the day with a cash-up: sales recorded against money received by transfer, card and cash. Head office checks the branch figures against the branch's collection account. Differences are investigated the next morning, not at month-end. Our end-of-day cash-up guide has the steps.

A weekly branch report

  1. Sales by payment method.
  2. Money received into the branch's collection account.
  3. Branch spending, with vouchers.
  4. Amount swept to the central account.
  5. Unexplained differences, with the manager's note.
  6. Refunds and voided sales.

Worked example

Example: a pharmacy chain with three branches in Port Harcourt gives each branch its own account details. In one week, Branch A records sales of ₦4.2 million and receives ₦4.18 million by transfer and card; the ₦20,000 difference is a cash sale banked on Monday. Branch B records ₦3.1 million and receives ₦2.86 million, a gap of ₦240,000. Because Branch B has its own lane, head office looks only at Branch B's transfers and finds six sales marked 'paid by transfer' with no matching credit. All six were rung up by one cashier. Without separate accounts, the ₦240,000 would have disappeared into a combined balance.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account supports multiple accounts and virtual accounts, so each branch can have its own lane while head office sees the whole business. The Chief of Staff and Finance agents can prepare branch reports and sweeps; a person approves anything above the ceiling you set, and every action is recorded.

Questions people ask

Should each branch have its own bank account?

Each branch should at least have its own collection details, through a separate account or a dedicated account number, so every payment is tagged to the branch that earned it.

How do I control spending at branches?

Give branch managers a spending limit for daily operations, centralise rent, salaries and main suppliers at head office, and require approval above the limit.

How often should branch money be moved to head office?

Daily or weekly on a fixed schedule. Small branch balances limit losses and let head office plan cash.

How do I find which branch is short?

Reconcile each branch daily against its own collection account. Separate lanes make a shortfall visible within a day and point to a specific till or shift.
