Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to check your MTN data balance (USSD, SMS, app)

Every working way to see your remaining MTN data and its expiry: *323*4#, SMS 2 to 323, *310#, the myMTN app, Zigi, and the router balance code *461*4#.

The short answer

Dial *323*4# to see your main MTN data bundle and bonus, or text 2 to 323; MTN's help page also lists *310#, the myMTN app and Zigi on WhatsApp. For MTN router plans the balance code is *461*4# (or *312*500#), and every method also shows when the bundle expires.

Knowing how much data you have left, and when it expires, is the simplest way to avoid surprise pay-as-you-go charges and lost rollover. MTN publishes several ways to check. They show the same balance; which one you use depends on whether you have signal, a smartphone or the line in your hand.

All the ways to check, from MTN's own pages

MethodWhat to doShows
USSDDial *323*4#Main data bundle and bonus
USSDDial *310#Balances (airtime and data)
SMSText 2 to 323Data balance by SMS
myMTN appOpen the app; text myMTN to 5018 for the download linkPlans, balance and expiry together
Zigi on WhatsAppMessage 0903 300 0001Balance and validity in chat
Router plansDial *461*4# or *312*500#, or use the myMTN appBroadband router plan balance

The NCC's harmonised list assigns 323 to 'data plan balance' on every network, which is why the MTN code starts with 323. Earlier MTN codes that many people remember, including checking through the *312# buying menu, may still show a balance, but *323*4# is the one MTN's data help page lists for the main bundle.

Reading the result

  • Main bundle: the data you paid for, with its expiry date. This is the only part that can roll over.
  • Bonus data: extra allowances from promotions. MTN's help page says unused data bonuses do not roll over.
  • Several bundles at once: MTN says the bundle with the least validity is used first. If you hold a daily plan and a monthly plan, the daily one is spent first.
  • Expiry: shown with the balance. Note it; rollover depends on it.

Rollover: why the expiry date matters

MTN's help page sets grace periods for rollover: unused main data carries over only if you buy another plan from the same category within 1 day (1-day plans), 3 days (2-, 3-, 7- and 14-day plans) or 7 days (30-, 60- and 90-day plans).

Worked example (illustrative)

On 1 October you have 3GB left on a 30-day plan that expires that day. You buy the same category of plan on 6 October, inside the 7-day window, and the 3GB carries over. If you had waited until 9 October, the 3GB would have been lost. Checking the balance a few days before expiry tells you whether it is worth renewing on time.

Your phone's own counter, and MTN's calculator

Your phone keeps its own record of mobile data used, under Settings, then Network or Connections, then Data usage on Android, or Mobile Data on an iPhone. It shows which apps used the most. It will not match MTN's figure exactly, because the phone counts differently and resets on a date you set, but it is the quickest way to find the app that is eating your bundle.

MTN's help centre also links to a data calculator at mtn.ng/datacalculator, which estimates how much data a month of browsing, streaming and calls will use. Use it to choose a plan size, then use *323*4# to see whether your real usage matches the estimate. If it does not, the gap usually comes from video quality, cloud backups or a hotspot.

Alerts you get without checking

According to MTN's data help page, you receive a notification after a session that takes you past 80% of your bundle volume, and again when the bundle is exhausted. After that, you can buy another plan, request data from a friend with *321*2*3#, or opt in to pay-as-you-go browsing with *312*200#, which the same page prices at ₦3.07 per MB as at Oct 2026. If you do not want pay-as-you-go, opt out with *312*201# or text SUSPEND to 312.

When the balance will not show

  1. Make sure you are dialling from the MTN SIM on a dual-SIM phone.
  2. Toggle flight mode or restart the phone, then try *323*4# again.
  3. Try the SMS route (2 to 323), which sometimes works when USSD times out.
  4. Use the myMTN app on Wi-Fi, or Zigi.
  5. Call 300 if no method works.

If the balance shows but looks too low, our guide to complaining about wrongly deducted MTN data explains what to check and how to raise it.

Where Pryme fits

Once you know when your bundle expires, you can top up on time from a Pryme account on the airtime and data page, or ask the Personal Assistant to remind you a few days before; it prepares the purchase and waits for your approval. For more on usage, read why MTN data finishes fast.

Questions people ask

How do I check my MTN data balance?

Dial *323*4# or text 2 to 323. You can also use *310#, the myMTN app or Zigi on WhatsApp at 0903 300 0001.

What is the code to check MTN router data balance?

*461*4# or *312*500#, according to MTN's router plans page, or check in the myMTN app.

Does MTN bonus data roll over?

No. MTN's help page says unused data bonuses do not roll over; only main data can, within the grace period.

Which MTN data is used first?

MTN says the bundle with the least validity is used first.
