Ten years, one trunk

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to do a month-end money review in 20 minutes

A short, repeatable checklist for the end of each month: what came in, what went out, what to fix, and how a money assistant can prepare the numbers.

The short answer

A month-end money review is a short check of what came in, what went out, how your savings moved and what is due next month. Done in about 20 minutes with five questions, it catches problems early. A money assistant can prepare the totals for you, so your time goes on decisions rather than adding up.

Why a monthly review works

Businesses close their books every month because it is the only way to know where they stand. A household is no different. Without a review, each month blurs into the next, small leaks become habits, and the first sign of trouble is a bill you cannot pay. With a short, regular review you see the trend while there is still time to change it.

The aim is not perfection. It is twenty minutes, once a month, at the same time, answering the same questions. Many people choose the weekend after payday, when the month's spending is fresh and the new month's plan can be set.

A money assistant makes the review quicker because it can do the part people dislike most: pulling transactions together and adding them up. You can ask "what did I spend in October by category?" and get a starting point in seconds. The thinking, and any changes, are still yours.

The five questions

  1. What came in? Salary, side income, money from family, refunds.
  2. What went out, by category? Home, food, transport, family, phone and media, personal.
  3. What did I save? How much went into each savings pot, and is each goal on track?
  4. What surprised me? Anything unusually high, anything you did not expect, any payment you do not recognise.
  5. What is coming next month? Rent, school fees, renewals, festivals, weddings.

A 20-minute timetable

MinutesTaskWhat the assistant can prepare
0 to 5Income and spending totalsTotals in and out, spending by category
5 to 10Savings checkBalance of each pot against its target
10 to 15Surprises and unknown paymentsLargest payments, new payees, repeat charges
15 to 20Next month's planReminders for due bills, savings moves to approve

If you track spending weekly, as in tracking your spending with an AI assistant, the month-end review is quicker still because there are fewer surprises.

Worked example: one household's October review

Example only. Halima and her husband in Kano review their joint household money on the first Saturday after payday. Their assistant prepares the totals:

ItemOctober (example)Plan
Income₦780,000₦780,000
Home₦170,000₦160,000
Food₦210,000₦190,000
Transport₦95,000₦90,000
Family and giving₦110,000₦100,000
Phone and media₦35,000₦35,000
Personal₦60,000₦55,000
Saved₦100,000₦150,000

The picture is clear: every category ran a little over, and savings came up ₦50,000 short. Food is the biggest gap. They agree on two changes: one monthly market trip instead of several small ones, and a weekly food limit with a reminder. They also see that school fees for the second term are due in seven weeks, so they set reminders and schedule a savings move to the school fees pot, which they approve on the spot.

When the review shows a real problem

Sometimes the numbers show more than a small overspend. If income no longer covers essentials, or debt repayments take a growing share each month, a few tweaks will not be enough. The review is still useful: it gives you the facts to talk to a lender about a new repayment date, to renegotiate rent before the next increase, or to decide with family what support is realistic this year. Bring the one-page summary to that conversation rather than a vague sense that things are hard.

If the review shows a debit you do not recognise, treat it separately and quickly. Contact your provider with the date, amount and reference. Under the CBN's consumer protection expectations, institutions must have a complaints process; use it, and keep a note of when you reported the problem and to whom.

Making it stick

  • Same day, same time. Put it in the calendar as a repeating event.
  • Keep a one-line log. "October: overspent food by ₦20,000, savings short ₦50,000, fix: one market trip." After six months the log tells you more than any app.
  • Do it together if you share money with a partner. The review is a calm moment to agree, rather than arguing when money runs out.
  • Change one or two things only. Ten resolutions fail; two usually stick.
  • Keep a statement for months when you might need proof of income or spending, such as before a visa or rent application.

For the budgeting side, see budgeting with an AI assistant, and if prices are rising faster than your income, whether your savings are beating inflation.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Assistant (Eva by default, or the name you choose) helps with the everyday pieces of a review: setting reminders for next month's bills and preparing savings moves into your Savings Boxes for you to approve. Any Pryme customer can generate a regular or verifiable statement through the partnership with VerifyDoc.ai; a verifiable one can be checked by the recipient as genuine and unaltered.

Questions people ask

What should I check at the end of every month?

Income, spending by category, savings progress, any payment you do not recognise, and bills due next month.

How long should a monthly budget review take?

Around 20 minutes if your spending goes through one or two accounts and you have totals ready. A weekly check makes it faster.

What do I do if I see a debit I don't recognise?

Contact your bank or app's support immediately with the details. It may be a forgotten subscription, but it could be fraud, and early reporting helps.

Should couples do a money review together?

Yes, if they share household costs. A regular, short review is a calmer setting for money decisions than the end of a difficult month.
