Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

MoneyGram UK complaint about a Nigeria transfer: timelines

MoneyGram UK sets 3, 5, 15 and 35 business day stages for complaints, then the Financial Ombudsman. What each stage means for a Nigeria transfer problem.

The short answer

MoneyGram UK says complaints resolved within 3 business days get a summary resolution; otherwise you receive an acknowledgement within 5 business days, most complaints get a final response within 15 business days, and none should take longer than 35 business days. If you are unhappy with the answer, or 35 business days pass, you can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service within six months of the final response (MoneyGram UK complaints page, checked October 2026).

A transfer to Nigeria that arrives late, arrives short, goes to the wrong account or is refunded without explanation is worth a formal complaint. The UK has a set process for payment services firms, and MoneyGram UK publishes its own stages. Knowing the clock helps you decide when to chase and when to escalate.

MoneyGram UK's four stages

StageMoneyGram UK says
Within 3 business daysIf resolved, you get a Summary Resolution Communication
Within 5 business daysIf not resolved straight away, a formal acknowledgement "along with an estimated timeframe for resolution"
Within 15 business daysAim to resolve most complaints, with a written final response; in exceptional cases a holding reply stating the deadline
35 business daysFinal response "will not be longer than 35 business days from the date of your initial complaint"

Business days exclude weekends and bank holidays. The 35-day limit runs from the date you first raised the complaint, so note that date and how you raised it.

Then the Financial Ombudsman Service

MoneyGram's page says you can refer the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service if you are dissatisfied with the final resolution, or if more than 35 business days have passed since you first raised it. You must contact the Ombudsman within six months of MoneyGram's final response, you must have tried to resolve it with the firm first, and the service is free.

Address
The Financial Ombudsman Service, Exchange Tower, London E14 9SR

Email
complaint.info@financial-ombudsman.org.uk

The Ombudsman's own guidance says businesses have up to 15 days to respond to complaints about payment services and e-money, and 8 weeks for most other complaints. MoneyGram's 35 business day ceiling sits within the payment services framework, where firms can extend in exceptional cases. The Ombudsman's six-month time limit is counted in calendar months from the date on the final response.

What to put in your complaint

MoneyGram's complaints page does not list complaint channels or what to include, so use the contact routes in your MoneyGram account or app. A complaint that is easy to investigate gets a faster answer. Include:

  1. The word "complaint" in the first line, so it is logged as one.
  2. The transfer reference number, date, amount sent and amount promised in naira.
  3. The receiver's name and the bank or pickup location in Nigeria.
  4. What went wrong, in two or three sentences, and the outcome you want (refund, delivery, a fee refund).
  5. Evidence: screenshots of the quote, the status page, a Nigerian bank statement showing no credit, or a session ID from the receiving bank.

Worked example of the timeline

Example. Dates illustrative. Bola complains on Monday 2 November that £500 sent to her father's account in Abeokuta has not arrived. MoneyGram cannot resolve it in 3 business days, so it sends an acknowledgement by Monday 9 November. Its aim is a final response by Monday 23 November (15 business days). If it sends a holding reply instead, the latest final response would be 35 business days from 2 November, which falls on Monday 21 December. If Bola is unhappy, she has six months from the final response date to go to the Ombudsman.

Which problems are worth a complaint

Not every delay is a complaint. A transfer under review for identity checks is the firm following the money laundering rules, and answering its questions is usually faster than complaining. A complaint fits when something has gone wrong that the firm should put right:

  • Money not received after the delivery time shown when you paid, with no request for information outstanding.
  • A naira amount lower than the amount confirmed on your receipt.
  • A refund that has not reached your card or account.
  • Fees charged for a transfer that was cancelled through no fault of yours.
  • Poor handling, such as repeated requests for the same document or no reply.

Ask for the outcome you want in plain terms. If it reaches the Ombudsman, it will look at what went wrong and how MoneyGram handled your complaint, so a clear request from the start helps.

Before you complain: check the transfer itself

  • Ask the receiver to check with their bank using the date and your name; some credits arrive and are not noticed.
  • Check whether the account number and name matched; a mismatch can cause a return.
  • Look for a request from MoneyGram for ID or information you have not answered.

For how complaints work across all UK providers, see complaining to the Financial Ombudsman about a transfer firm and Nigerian banks delaying a credit.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme records each payment in the app, and you can generate a verifiable receipt or statement with VerifyDoc.ai to support a query (receipts). For help, see contact.
