An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.
A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.
Solid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.
More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.
Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.
Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.
Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.
Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.
Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.
Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.
Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.
Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

The exchange rate, imports, VAT and domestic supply from NLNG and Dangote: what each does to a 12.5kg refill, with dated NBS and industry figures.
Cooking gas prices in Nigeria rise mainly because of four things: the naira exchange rate, the cost and disruption of imported LPG, tax treatment, and how much domestic producers such as NLNG and Dangote supply locally. NBS put the average 12.5kg refill at ₦22,382.20 in April 2026, up 13.89% in a single month. Industry figures blamed exchange-rate swings, supply shortages and logistics.
A 12.5kg refill that cost one price last month can cost noticeably more this month, and the vendor will usually say "price don go up for depot". That is true, but it is the last link in a longer chain. This article explains the four forces behind that chain, using the latest figures we could source. With them you can tell a passing spike from a lasting change.
| NBS average refill | March 2026 | April 2026 | Change in month | Change on April 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5kg | ₦7,655.73 | ₦8,706.93 | +13.73% | +10.42% |
| 12.5kg | ₦19,652.83 | ₦22,382.20 | +13.89% | +10.43% |
That monthly rise of ₦2,729.37 on a 12.5kg refill came on top of a year in which prices had already risen. State averages vary widely: Katsina, Kogi and Gombe were dearest for 12.5kg in April 2026, and Ogun, Bauchi and Anambra cheapest. In Lagos, the LPG marketers' association NALPGAM said in June 2026 that prices had reached ₦2,000 to ₦2,500 per kg in many areas, up from ₦900 to ₦1,000 in April. At those rates a 12.5kg fill would be ₦25,000 to ₦31,250 (calculated). For today's figure see cooking gas price today.
LPG is a globally traded product priced against dollar benchmarks. That holds even for gas produced in Nigeria, because producers can sell abroad at world prices. When the naira weakens, the naira price of every kilogram rises. In 2026, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) and NALPGAM's president both cited foreign-exchange volatility as a cause of high prices, and energy expert Chris Mordi cited exchange-rate fluctuations as a reason for the April jump. World prices matter on their own too. Mordi said the US-Iran conflict disrupted LPG imports and raised global benchmarks.
Not all gas used in Nigeria is produced here, and imported cargoes are exposed to shipping disruption and world prices. Even domestic gas has to travel. NALPGAM says LPG storage is concentrated in Lagos, the Edo and Delta axis and Port Harcourt, with few facilities in the North. Depot capacity, trucking and multiple handling charges add to the price by the time a cylinder is filled. This helps explain why some northern states sit near the top of the NBS state table, though local competition also plays a part.
Tax has moved in both directions over the years. In 2018, marketers blamed high VAT on locally produced gas and said imported gas was far cheaper than buying from NLNG as a result, The Guardian reported. The VAT (Modification) Order 2024, as summarised by PwC, lists imported LPG as VAT-exempt and also exempts equipment for LPG and CNG expansion. NALPGAM's 2026 proposals still include removing overlapping regulatory charges, which suggests that charges other than VAT still weigh on the price. Check the current tax position with the Nigeria Revenue Service; this article is information, not tax advice.
Domestic supply is the biggest lever. NALPGAM's president said Dangote and NLNG together supplied about 87% of the domestic LPG market in 2025, and that Dangote later reduced its domestic allocation because its LPG went mainly into higher-value products. When a supplier that large cuts local volumes, depots compete for less gas and prices rise. The minister said all LPG produced in Nigeria should go to the domestic market before export, and directed the downstream regulator NMDPRA to improve supply coordination.
NALPGAM projected that retail prices could fall to between ₦900 and ₦1,100 per kg by the end of 2026 if reforms are implemented, which would be about ₦11,250 to ₦13,750 for 12.5kg (calculated). It called this an indicative target, not a guarantee, since world prices and the exchange rate still matter. Its proposals include a domestic supply obligation, incentives for storage, and fewer overlapping charges.
A rule of thumb: when the cause is a depot shortage or a delayed cargo, prices usually ease once supply returns, so it pays to buy only what you need. When the cause is a weaker naira or a lasting cut in domestic supply, the higher price tends to stay. Reading which driver is behind a rise, in the news and in the next NBS release, tells you whether to wait or to budget for the new level.
If gas is a monthly cost in your home, a Flexible Savings Box can hold the refill money so a price jump does not come out of food money. For the full picture, see the monthly utility budget example.
Industry and government sources in 2026 point to exchange-rate swings, higher world prices, supply shortages, including reduced domestic allocation by a major producer, and logistics and storage costs. NBS put the 12.5kg average at ₦22,382.20 in April 2026.
