Ten years, one trunk

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

How long to get a credit score in the US as a newcomer

When a first US credit score can appear for a Nigerian newcomer, what decides the timing, and how to check your report and score for free.

The short answer

Expect several months, not weeks. A score can only be calculated once a US account has been open and reporting to the credit bureaus for long enough to meet the scoring model's minimum criteria, and the score companies publish their own rules. Open one reporting account soon after you arrive, pay on time, and check your free reports at annualcreditreport.com.

Why there is no single answer

Newcomers often hear 'six months' quoted as the time to a first score. Treat that as a rough guide rather than a rule. The time depends on three things you can see and one you cannot. You can see when you opened your first account, when the lender first reported it and whether you paid on time. You cannot see the exact minimum criteria each scoring model applies, which are set by the score companies and can change. FICO and VantageScore each publish their own explanation of what a file needs before it can be scored; read the current version on their sites rather than relying on a number repeated on forums.

What is certain is that the clock does not start on the day you land. It starts when a lender first reports an account in your name to one of the three nationwide credit reporting companies.

What starts the clock

ActionStarts reporting?Comment
Opening a checking accountNoBank accounts are not credit accounts
Secured credit cardYes, if the issuer reportsThe CFPB says to ask the issuer whether it reports
Credit builder loanYes, payments are reportedTypically repaid over 6 to 24 months, per the CFPB
Authorised user on a relative's cardDepends on the issuerAsk whether authorised users are reported
Prepaid debit cardNoNot credit
Paying rent on timeOnly through a rent-reporting serviceSee rent reporting

Getting your SSN early helps because many lenders need it to open the account in the first place. The SSA recommends applying about 10 days after arrival, and the number is free.

Worked example: a realistic timeline

Example only. Ifeoma arrives in New Jersey on 1 March. Her SSN application goes in on 12 March and the card arrives by post later that month. She opens a secured card in early April. The issuer reports her first statement at the start of May. From that point her file exists, and she pays on time each month. She checks her reports in the summer and sees the card listed. Whether a score is available by the autumn depends on the scoring model each lender uses, so when she applies for her first unsecured card she asks the issuer which score it checks. Counting from arrival, her wait is about two months longer than counting from her first report, which is why opening the account early matters.

How to check your report and score

  1. Reports: the CFPB points to annualcreditreport.com, where you can get a free report from each of the three nationwide companies every 12 months. Check that your name, address and new account are right.
  2. Errors: if something is wrong, ask the credit reporting company to investigate.
  3. Scores: many card issuers and banks show a free score in their app or statements. Note which model it is, because different models can give different numbers on the same day.
  4. Paid offers: you do not need to pay to see whether you have a file.

Mistakes that slow things down

  • Waiting until you need credit before opening anything.
  • Applying for several cards in the first month; the CFPB notes that opening many accounts quickly may lower your score.
  • Letting a balance sit near the limit; experts advise keeping use at or below 30%.
  • Using a different spelling of your name or an old address on each application, which can split or confuse your file.

The full set of routes is in building a US credit score from scratch, and the Nigerian side is explained in whether Nigerian credit history counts.

Does your immigration route change the timing?

Not directly. The credit reporting companies do not treat a Green Card holder differently from a work-visa holder. What differs is how fast you can open the first account. Immigrant-visa holders who asked for an SSN with their visa often receive the card by post soon after arrival, according to the SSA, so they can apply for credit early. Students and dependants without work permission may not get an SSN at all and need an issuer that accepts an ITIN, which narrows the choice and can add weeks.

Keeping one file, not two

Use the same full name, in the same order, on every application, matching your passport and SSN record. Update every lender when you move. Nigerian naming conventions, such as a middle name used as a first name at home, can lead to a second partial file if you vary them. If you find a duplicate or mixed file on your report, ask the credit reporting company to investigate, as the CFPB advises for any error.

Finally, keep your first card open and in light use even after you get better offers. The account that started your file keeps adding to its length every month it stays open and in good standing.

Where Pryme fits

While your US file grows, a Pryme Personal Account keeps your naira and dollars separate and visible in one app. If you are still supporting family at home, sending from the same place keeps your US budget clear of surprises that could leave a card bill unpaid. Pryme does not report to US credit bureaus.

Questions people ask

How long does it take to get a credit score in the US?

Usually several months after your first credit account starts reporting. The exact minimum depends on the scoring model.

Does my credit score start when I get my SSN?

No. It starts when a lender reports a credit account in your name to a credit reporting company.

Where can I check if I have a US credit file?

At annualcreditreport.com, where you can get a free report from each of the three nationwide companies every 12 months.

Why do my credit scores differ between apps?

Different apps may use different scoring models and different bureaus' data, so numbers can vary on the same day.
