Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Business

Rider cash, fuel and vehicle costs for a logistics business

Daily remittance for cash-on-delivery riders, fuel logs that catch waste, a maintenance reserve per vehicle, and what the Labour Act says on deductions.

The short answer

Control rider money with a daily remittance sheet that every rider settles before the next shift, with customer transfers going to the company's account, never the rider's. Log fuel by odometer reading, litres and receipt so you can see fuel per kilometre for each vehicle. Set aside a fixed maintenance reserve per kilometre. Under the Labour Act, deductions from wages for losses need a labour officer's prior written consent and are capped at one-third of wages.

A delivery business can grow its order book and still lose money every week through three leaks: cash collected but not remitted, fuel bought but not used on deliveries, and repairs that arrive as emergencies. Each has a simple control. None works unless it is done every day.

Daily remittance for cash on delivery

Every rider who collects money should settle at the end of the shift, against a sheet listing each delivery.

Delivery IDCustomerAmount due (₦)Paid byReference or receiptSettled
D-1041Example customer12,500Transfer to company accountBank referenceYes
D-1042Example customer8,000CashReceipt no.Yes
D-1043Example customer15,000Not collectedReturned parcelParcel back
  • Customers pay by transfer to the company's account, not the rider's. Give each customer the account details on the order confirmation.
  • Riders hand over cash the same day; the supervisor counts it in front of them and both sign.
  • A delivery is closed only when it shows as paid, or the parcel is back in the store.
  • Shortages are recorded against the rider's name the same day, with an explanation.

For more on reducing cash risk, see cash on delivery: cutting rider remittance risk.

What the law says about deductions

Owners often want to deduct shortages from riders' pay. The Labour Act limits this for workers covered by it. It bars deductions for fines; a reasonable deduction for injury or loss caused by the worker's wilful misconduct or neglect needs the prior written consent of an authorised labour officer; and total deductions in any month may not exceed one-third of that month's wages. Recovery of overpayments is also limited. Put the cash-handling rules in each rider's written terms, and take advice before making any deduction. This is information, not legal advice.

Fuel logs

Record every fill-up: date, vehicle, odometer reading, litres, price per litre, amount and receipt. Fuel per kilometre is then the litres used divided by kilometres travelled between fills.

Pump prices change often. Legit.ng reported in August 2026 that pump prices at some major marketers had moved to around ₦1,210 a litre after a refinery price cut. Use the price on your receipts, not a figure from the news, and check pump prices on the day.

What the log catches

  • A bike that suddenly uses more fuel per kilometre may need servicing, or fuel may be leaving the tank.
  • Fill-ups with no change in odometer reading.
  • Receipts from stations far from the rider's routes.
  • Kilometres recorded that do not match the delivery list for the day.

A maintenance reserve per vehicle

Tyres, chains, brake pads, oil and engine work are certain; only the timing is not. Set aside a fixed amount per kilometre or per day for each vehicle, in a separate pot, and pay repairs from it.

Worked example (labelled example)

A delivery bike covers 120 km a day. It does 40 km per litre (example), so it uses 3 litres a day. At ₦1,210 a litre (as at August 2026, Legit.ng), fuel costs ₦3,630 a day. The owner sets a maintenance reserve of ₦12.50 per kilometre (example), or ₦1,500 a day. Over 26 working days, that is ₦94,380 of fuel and ₦39,000 set aside for repairs. If the bike needs a ₦60,000 engine job in month two, the reserve already holds ₦78,000 and the job does not come out of payroll.

Riders on commission or their own bikes

Some businesses pay riders per delivery, or let riders use their own bikes and pay a higher rate. The controls change slightly but do not disappear.

  • Per-delivery pay: pay only for deliveries closed as paid or returned, so riders have a reason to settle every cash collection.
  • Rider-owned bikes: the rider carries fuel and maintenance, so you need no fuel log, but you still need proof of valid third-party insurance and vehicle papers on file.
  • Hire-purchase bikes: if riders pay off a company bike from earnings, record each instalment and give a statement monthly, so there is no dispute about the balance.

Whatever the model, cash collection rules stay the same: customer transfers go to the company account and cash is settled the same day.

Weekly review

  1. Total cash and transfers collected against deliveries closed.
  2. Shortages by rider, and whether any repeat.
  3. Fuel per kilometre by vehicle, against the previous four weeks.
  4. Maintenance reserve balance per vehicle against repairs paid.
  5. Vehicles off the road, and why.

Put the numbers in front of riders. When riders see that fuel per kilometre and remittance are tracked, both usually improve.

Where Pryme fits

Virtual account numbers on a Pryme Business Account can be given to customers so cash-on-delivery transfers are easy to match. Naira Savings Boxes can hold a maintenance reserve apart from operating money. See also pricing deliveries per kilometre.

Questions people ask

Can I deduct a rider's shortage from salary in Nigeria?

The Labour Act bars deductions for fines and requires an authorised labour officer's prior written consent for deductions for loss caused by wilful misconduct or neglect. Total deductions in a month cannot exceed one-third of wages. Take advice first.

How do I stop riders keeping cash-on-delivery money?

Ask customers to pay by transfer to the company account, settle cash daily against a delivery sheet, and record shortages by rider the same day.

How much fuel does a delivery bike use per day?

It depends on the bike and the routes. Keep a fuel log with odometer readings to work out your own litres per kilometre.

How much should I save for bike maintenance?

Set a fixed reserve per kilometre or per day and adjust it after six months of actual repair costs. Our example uses ₦1,500 a day for a bike covering 120 km.
