Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Loan for WAEC, JAMB or professional exam fees: options

Where Nigerians can borrow small sums for WAEC, JAMB or professional exam fees, and why small, short loans cost more than they look.

The short answer

Exam fees for WAEC, JAMB or professional bodies are small sums, and small, short loans in Nigeria come mainly from loan apps, cooperatives, employer advances and family, not from banks' main loan products. Because fixed fees and short-term interest weigh heavily on small amounts, a 30-day loan of ₦30,000 can easily cost 10% to 20% of the sum. Saving ahead of the registration window, or a cooperative or employer advance, is usually far cheaper.

Why exam fees are a borrowing problem

Registration windows for national exams and professional bodies are short, and the fee is due in full at once, often alongside other school or work costs. Families with several candidates feel it most. The amount is small enough that banks' standard personal loans are not designed for it, but large enough to strain a monthly budget. Check the current fee only on the exam body's official website or portal, and pay only through the channels it names; agents who collect fees on a candidate's behalf are a common source of loss.

Where small loans come from

SourceTypical featuresMain cost or risk
Loan appsSmall first limits, decided quickly from BVN and bureau dataHigh short-term rates; check the FCCPC register
Bank payday loans and salary advancesFor salary earners; repaid at next paydayInterest plus upfront fees
Cooperative soft loansMembers only; tied to savingsLow cost but needs membership and savings
Employer advanceDeducted from salaryOften free; needs employer agreement
Family or communityInformal, flexibleStrain on relationships if not repaid

Bank products show the scale of fees on short loans. Access Bank's PayDay loan, as at October 2026, charges 7% flat with a 1% management fee and 0.5% credit life upfront, for 30 days or until the next salary.

Worked example: the cost of ₦30,000 for 30 days

The bank figures use Access Bank's published PayDay terms as at October 2026; the app line is an illustrative example.

OptionCalculationCostRepay
Bank payday terms7% + 1% + 0.5% of ₦30,000₦2,550₦32,100 (₦450 fees taken upfront)
App example: 12% plus ₦1,000 fee₦3,600 + ₦1,000₦4,600₦34,600
Cooperative example: 1% flat for one month₦30,000 × 1%₦300₦30,300
Employer advanceUsually interest-free₦0₦30,000

The app loan costs about 15.3% of the amount for one month (₦4,600 ÷ ₦30,000), roughly 184% a year in simple terms. The flat ₦1,000 fee alone is 3.3% on this amount; on ₦300,000 it would be a third of a percent. That is why small loans look cheap in naira but are expensive in percentage terms. Read APR vs flat fee.

Rollover is the other trap. If the app loan cannot be repaid at day 30 and is extended for another month at the same terms, the cost doubles to about ₦9,200 on a ₦30,000 loan, close to a third of the amount borrowed. Borrow only if you can see exactly where the repayment will come from.

Safer ways to fund exam fees

  1. Save from the start of the school year. Dividing the expected fee by the months to registration gives a small monthly sum.
  2. Ask the employer early. A parent's employer may allow a small advance, recovered over two or three months; see how employer advances work.
  3. Use a cooperative soft loan if you are a member; see cooperative loans.
  4. Check scholarships and sponsorships. Some state governments, employers, religious bodies and professional associations support candidates.
  5. If you must use an app, borrow the exact amount, for the shortest term, from an app on the FCCPC register, and repay on time.

Planning ahead for the next window

Exam registration comes round at roughly the same time every year, which makes it one of the easiest costs to save for. Once this year's fee is paid, note the amount and divide it by the months until the next window. A family expecting to pay for two candidates next year can set aside that sum every month and avoid borrowing entirely. Add a margin, because fees and the cost of related items such as passport photographs, travel to a centre and data for online registration tend to rise.

If you are a candidate paying for your own professional exams, ask your employer whether it sponsors staff exams. Many firms refund or prepay exam fees for staff studying for qualifications relevant to their jobs, sometimes with a bond to stay for a period after you qualify.

Scams around exam fees

  • "Loan plus registration" offers from agents who take the money and never register the candidate.
  • Loan offers that ask for an upfront fee before the loan is paid.
  • Links to fake exam portals sent by SMS or WhatsApp. Type the official address yourself.
  • Apps that demand access to contacts and photos. The FCCPC's 2025 digital lending regulations, enforced again since 20 July 2026, require lenders to disclose rates and fees before you borrow and prohibit abusive recovery; report breaches to the FCCPC.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not lend for exam fees. A Flexible Savings Box lets a parent put aside a small amount each month for the next registration window, and the Personal Assistant can remind you when it is time. School fees at schools in Spaces can be paid through Spaces.

Questions people ask

Can I get a loan to pay for JAMB or WAEC?

Yes, mainly from loan apps, bank payday loans if you earn a salary, cooperatives, or an employer advance. For small sums, a cooperative or employer advance is usually far cheaper than an app.

Which loan app is best for small amounts like ₦20,000?

Choose one on the FCCPC register that shows the full naira cost before you accept, and compare it with the alternatives. Small loans carry high percentage costs because fees weigh heavily on small amounts.

Why are small loans so expensive?

Lenders charge fixed fees and short-term rates that look small in naira but are large as a percentage of a small, short loan. In our example ₦30,000 for 30 days from an app cost ₦4,600, about 15.3%.

How do I avoid exam registration scams?

Pay only on the exam body's official portal or channels, type the web address yourself, and never pay an agent who promises a loan plus registration.
