Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Labelling Nigerian food products for sale abroad

A NAFDAC label is not enough abroad. The UK, EU, US and Canadian rules on ingredients, allergens, origin, address and language, side by side.

The short answer

A label that satisfies NAFDAC will rarely satisfy the market you sell in. Each country sets its own mandatory list, but the common core is the name of the food, ingredients in descending order, allergens emphasised, net quantity, a date mark, the name and address of a business in that market, country of origin where needed, and a nutrition declaration, in the local language. The allergen lists differ: 14 in the UK and EU, 9 in the US.

Why the Nigerian label is a starting point only

NAFDAC's Pre-Packaged Food, Water and Ice (Labelling) Regulations 2019 already require much of what other countries ask for: the food's name in bold on the main panel, an ingredients list in descending order by weight, declared allergens, net content in SI units, the manufacturer's name and address, country of origin, a batch number, manufacture and expiry dates, the NAFDAC number, storage conditions, nutrition information and English. The gaps appear in four places: whose address goes on the pack, which allergens must be named, how they are shown, and which language is required.

The mandatory particulars by market

Sources: GOV.UK food labelling guidance and FSA allergen guidance; Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 Articles 9, 13, 15 and 26; FDA Food Labeling Guide and allergen page; CFIA industry labelling tool (all accessed October 2026).

Allergens: where Nigerian products trip up

Many Nigerian foods carry allergens that are easy to miss because they sit inside a blend:

  • Groundnuts in suya spice, kuli kuli and some stews and snacks.
  • Crustaceans in ground crayfish and seasoning blends.
  • Fish in stockfish and bonga powders and some soup bases.
  • Sesame in snacks and spice mixes; the FDA added sesame as a major allergen from 1 January 2023.
  • Wheat (gluten) in chin chin, puff-puff mixes and some flours.

The UK's 2026/27 monitoring plan lists undeclared allergens in spice mixtures as a sampling priority, and FDA says it can refuse imports or place them on import alert for allergen violations. Write the allergen in the form the regulation uses (for example, "crayfish (crustacean)"), and add the species for fish and shellfish where the US rule requires it.

Names, origin and the address on the pack

Use a name a local buyer can understand and keep the Nigerian name beside it: "Egusi (ground melon seeds)", "Ogbono (ground wild mango seeds)", "Garri (fermented cassava granules)". The EU regulation makes country of origin mandatory where leaving it out could mislead (Art. 26), and FDA expects a conspicuous origin statement on imports, so "Product of Nigeria" belongs on the pack.

The address rule catches most small importers. GOV.UK says prepacked food sold in Great Britain must show a UK address, and where the food business is not in the UK, the UK importer's; a physical address, not an email or phone number. If you are the importer, that is your name and address.

Relabel or print for each market?

Small shops usually over-sticker Nigerian packs with a local label. That works if the sticker carries all the mandatory information, does not hide anything that would contradict it, and cannot come off easily. If you order enough, ask the Nigerian maker to print a market-specific pack: cheaper per unit and cleaner on the shelf, but you need to approve the artwork before the run. Either way, check the label against the product: if the recipe changes, the label must change too.

Steps

  1. Get the full recipe, including what is in any seasoning or blend, from the Nigerian maker.
  2. List the allergens against your market's list (14 or 9) and mark how they will be emphasised.
  3. Draft the label with name, ingredients, allergens, net quantity, date, storage, your business address, origin and nutrition.
  4. Check the minimum text size and language against your market's rule.
  5. Keep a copy of each approved label and the recipe it reflects, for the inspector and for your own recall plan.

Labels are only one check; ingredients themselves may face border controls. See importing Nigerian foodstuff and aflatoxin testing.

Where Pryme fits

If you pay a Nigerian maker for a label run or a reprint, a Pryme Business Account lets you pay in naira while you receive sales in your own currency. The Compliance agent can keep each approved label, recipe and supplier certificate together, and multicurrency accounts keep supplier and sales money apart.

Questions people ask

Can I sell Nigerian food abroad with the NAFDAC label?

Usually not as it is. Most markets require a local business address, their own allergen list and format, and their language, so you need a compliant label or over-sticker.

Whose address goes on Nigerian food sold in the UK?

A UK address. If the food business is not in the UK, GOV.UK says the UK importer's physical address must be shown.

How many allergens must be declared?

14 in the UK and EU, 9 in the US (including sesame since 1 January 2023). Canada has its own list in the CFIA labelling tool.

Does the label need to say Product of Nigeria?

Where omitting it could mislead, the EU rule requires origin, and FDA expects a conspicuous origin statement on imports; most importers include it.
