Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Keeping USD in a Pryme account: what it does and does not do

A Pryme account holds USD as USD with local account details and converts only when you approve. It does not pay interest. What that means.

The short answer

Keeping USD in a Pryme account means your dollars stay as dollars, with local USD account details for receiving, until you choose to convert with Swap, which shows the rate and any fee before you approve. It is an account for holding and moving dollars, not a savings or investment product: Pryme does not pay interest on USD balances.

What a USD balance in Pryme does

Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company, not a bank. A Personal or Business account, which can be opened from any country, holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR in one place, each with its own local account details. For dollars, that gives you:

  • Dollars stay dollars. Money stays in the currency it arrived in. Nothing is converted to naira on arrival.
  • Local USD account details you can give to people and businesses paying you in dollars.
  • Conversion on your terms. Swap converts only when you ask. The rate is shown first, any fee sits on its own line, and you approve before anything moves.
  • Sending. You can send money from the account.
  • Records. You can generate a regular or a verifiable receipt or statement through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai; anyone can check that a verifiable one is genuine and unaltered (see receipts).

Outside Nigeria, financial activities are carried out through regulated partners. Pryme itself does not hold a UK, US, Canadian or EU licence.

What it does not do

  • No interest on USD. A USD balance in Pryme earns nothing. If you want a dollar return, that comes from products such as dollar funds or interest-paying bank accounts, which carry their own risks and terms.
  • Not an investment. The balance is not invested in bonds or funds on your behalf, so its dollar value does not rise or fall with markets.
  • No dollar Savings Boxes. Pryme's Savings Boxes are naira only.
  • No automatic conversion. Pryme will not swap your dollars because the rate moved; you decide.

Why hold dollars without interest?

Interest is not the only reason to hold a currency. People keep dollars in an account like this to:

  • Receive dollar payments for freelance or business work and decide later when to convert.
  • Hold money for a known dollar cost, such as tuition, travel or a supplier invoice.
  • Avoid converting twice: receiving dollars as naira and later buying dollars back costs the spread each way.
  • Keep a dollar buffer that is easy to reach, rather than locked in a fund with a holding period.

Worked example: the round trip you avoid

Example only, with made-up rates. You are paid $1,000 and will need $1,000 for a course fee in three months. If the payment were converted to naira on arrival at an example ₦1,440, you would get ₦1,440,000. Buying $1,000 back three months later at an example ₦1,500 would cost ₦1,500,000, leaving you ₦60,000 short. Holding the $1,000 as dollars means the fee is covered whatever the naira does.

The flip side is that if the naira strengthens, dollars you hold are worth fewer naira. Holding a currency makes most sense against costs you will pay in that currency. Our guide on how much to keep in dollars covers sizing.

How it compares

Pryme USD balanceBank domiciliary accountDollar savings app
Holds dollars as dollarsYesYesYes, often invested
InterestNoneOften none on standard accountsVaries by app and product
ConversionSwap, rate shown first, you approveBank rate on requestApp rate
Value moves with marketsNoNoCan, if invested

How dollars reach you matters too. Under a 2026 CBN directive reported by Techeconomy, money transfer operators pay inbound remittances in naira, so ask whoever is paying you how they will send, and give them your USD account details for a dollar payment.

Converting when you are ready

When you decide to turn dollars into naira, or naira into dollars, Swap works in the same order each time:

  1. Choose the currencies and the amount.
  2. See the rate first, and any fee on its own line.
  3. See exactly what you will receive.
  4. Approve, or walk away. Nothing converts until you approve.

Because there is no interest on the balance, the only cost of holding is what you give up by not having the money elsewhere. Interest that banks do pay on foreign-currency deposits has 10% withholding tax deducted from 1 January 2026, per BusinessDay's report of bank notices, which narrows the gap a little.

Keeping it secure

Pryme uses an authenticator app rather than SMS codes, plus a transaction PIN; see security. If you set up the Personal Assistant (default name Eva), it can prepare reminders or a transfer, but nothing moves without your approval.

What to check first

  1. Which USD account details to share, and with whom.
  2. The rate and fee Swap shows before you approve a conversion.
  3. Whether you need the money in dollars or naira, and when.
  4. Whether a dollar product that pays interest suits part of your balance, and its risks.

Questions people ask

Does Pryme pay interest on dollars?

No. A USD balance in a Pryme account does not earn interest. Pryme's Savings Boxes, which show their rates in the app, are naira only.

Will Pryme convert my dollars to naira automatically?

No. Money stays in the currency it arrived in. You convert with Swap when you choose, after seeing the rate and any fee.

Can I receive dollars into Pryme?

Yes. A Pryme account comes with local USD account details for receiving dollars. Outside Nigeria, these services run through regulated partners.

Can I open a Pryme USD account from abroad?

Personal and Business accounts can be opened from any country, and one account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR.
