Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Cities

Jobs in Ibadan: typical salaries by sector

What entry and mid-level jobs in Ibadan tend to pay across the civil service, banks, schools, tech and factories, with the legal minimum as the floor.

The short answer

The floor for pay in Ibadan is set by law: the national minimum wage is ₦70,000 a month under the 2024 amendment Act, and Oyo State announced ₦80,000 for its own workers in November 2024. Above that, pay varies widely by sector and employer, and no official salary survey for Ibadan is published; the ranges in this guide are illustrative, built so you can test an offer against living costs. Banks, tech firms and large manufacturers usually pay more than private schools and small businesses.

Ibadan's job market mixes a large public sector (state ministries, local governments, the University of Ibadan, University College Hospital and other federal bodies), banks and insurers, private schools, a growing tech and remote-work scene, manufacturing along the Lagos–Ibadan and Oyo roads, and a large informal trade. We found no published, sector-by-sector salary survey for Ibadan, so this guide gives the legal floor with sources and then illustrative ranges that you should test against real offers.

National minimum wage
₦70,000 a month, under the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, signed on 29 July 2024, with review every three years.
Oyo State workers
₦80,000 a month, announced by the Oyo State Government on 6 November 2024 (Channels TV). The announcement said the new scale would be implemented once consequential adjustments were completed.

The minimum wage applies to employers covered by the Act; very small employers and some categories are treated differently. If an offer is below ₦70,000, ask the employer how it complies.

Illustrative pay ranges by sector

Illustrative ranges only, not survey data. Use them to frame questions, then check with people working in the role and with the employer's written offer.

SectorEntry level (monthly, illustrative)Mid level (monthly, illustrative)
State civil serviceFrom the ₦80,000 state minimum, by grade levelSet by grade level and step
Commercial banks (including contract staff)₦120,000 to ₦250,000₦300,000 to ₦600,000
Private primary and secondary schools₦60,000 to ₦120,000₦120,000 to ₦250,000
Tech, product and remote roles₦150,000 to ₦350,000₦400,000 to ₦1,000,000+
Factories and logistics₦70,000 to ₦130,000₦150,000 to ₦300,000
Retail, hospitality and sales₦70,000 to ₦110,000₦120,000 to ₦250,000

Bank and tech pay vary most between employers. Many bank front-office roles are filled through outsourcing agencies on lower pay than permanent staff. Remote roles for foreign companies may pay in foreign currency.

Worked example: does the offer cover the cost of living?

Example only. An offer of ₦150,000 gross a month. Deductions depend on pension, tax and other items; assume ₦12,000 for your pension contribution and ₦8,000 for tax and other deductions (your payslip shows the real figures), leaving ₦130,000 take-home.

LineAmount (example)
Take-home pay₦130,000
Rent share (₦480,000 a year ÷ 12)₦40,000
Food₦50,000
Transport₦25,000
Power, data, airtime₦12,000
Left for savings and other costs₦3,000

In this example the offer covers basic costs in Ibadan but leaves almost nothing over. Compare with our Ibadan cost of living budgets and our guide to budgeting on a Nigerian salary.

What to ask before you accept

  1. Is the salary gross or net, and what are the deductions?
  2. Am I a permanent employee or contracted through an agency?
  3. Is pension remitted to a PFA, and will I get statements?
  4. Is there an allowance for transport, housing or lunch?
  5. How often is pay reviewed, and is pay usually on time?

Planning a move from Lagos? See the Lagos–Ibadan train if you will commute some days. Earning extra on the side? See running a PoS business in Ibadan.

Sector notes

Civil service and public institutions

State and local government pay follows grade levels and steps, with the ₦80,000 state minimum at the bottom once the consequential adjustments announced in November 2024 are applied. Federal institutions in Ibadan, such as the University of Ibadan and University College Hospital, pay on federal salary structures, which differ from the state's. Public jobs are valued for regular pay dates and pension, even when the monthly figure is lower than private offers.

Banks and insurers

Ibadan has regional offices and many branches. Permanent analyst and officer roles pay at the upper end of local ranges; teller, sales and customer service roles are often filled through agencies on lower pay and shorter contracts. Ask which applies before you compare offers.

Schools

Private school pay varies more than any other sector, from small neighbourhood schools to large schools in Bodija, Jericho and Oluyole with higher fees. Some schools pay only during terms; ask whether holiday months are paid.

Tech and remote work

Ibadan's lower rent makes it attractive for remote workers, including people employed by Lagos or foreign companies. Pay depends on the employer, not the city, so a developer in Ibadan can earn the same as one in Lagos. Reliable power and internet are a real cost; budget for them.

Manufacturing and logistics

Factories and warehouses along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway and other corridors employ machine operators, drivers and warehouse staff, often on shift patterns. Overtime and shift allowances can matter as much as base pay.

Where Pryme fits

If you employ staff in Ibadan, a Pryme Business Account includes payroll, and the Finance agent prepares payment runs for you to approve above a set ceiling.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum wage in Oyo State?

Oyo State announced ₦80,000 a month for its workers in November 2024. The national minimum is ₦70,000 under the 2024 Act.

How much do bank workers earn in Ibadan?

It varies by bank and contract type. Our illustrative entry range is ₦120,000 to ₦250,000 a month; check the written offer.

How much do teachers earn in private schools in Ibadan?

Pay varies widely by school. Our illustrative entry range is ₦60,000 to ₦120,000 a month; ask how the school complies with the ₦70,000 minimum.

Is Ibadan good for jobs?

It has a large public sector, banks, schools, manufacturing and a growing tech scene, with lower living costs than Lagos, but pay is often lower too.
