Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Cities

Jobs in Enugu: typical salaries by sector

What jobs in Enugu pay by sector, from the ₦80,000 state minimum wage to banks, schools, hospitals and tech, and how to judge an offer.

The short answer

The only official pay floor for Enugu is the state minimum wage of ₦80,000 a month, approved by Governor Peter Mbah from October 2024 and extended to local government workers. Pay above that floor varies widely by employer, and no public body publishes sector salary tables for Enugu, so the ranges here are labelled examples to help you question an offer, not survey data.

People searching for Enugu salaries usually want to know two things: whether an offer is fair, and whether moving to Enugu makes sense on a given income. Official data does not answer either at sector level for the city. What we can do is set out the official floor, describe how pay is structured in each sector, give labelled example ranges, and show how to compare an offer properly.

The official floor

In October 2024 Governor Peter Mbah approved ₦80,000 a month as the minimum wage for Enugu State workers, effective October 2024, after meeting the state's minimum wage implementation committee and labour leaders (Federal Ministry of Information, 25 Oct 2024). The Enugu chairman of the Trade Union Congress said it would cascade to local government workers. Labour leaders described it as the first time Enugu workers would earn above the national minimum wage.

How pay works in each sector

SectorHow pay is usually setWhat to ask
State and local civil serviceGrade levels and steps on the state salary structure, with the ₦80,000 floorYour grade, step and allowances in writing
BanksBank-wide structures, often with branch or role allowances; some roles are outsourced through agenciesAre you employed by the bank or a contractor?
Private schoolsSet by the proprietor; may be paid for teaching months onlyIs pay for 12 months or term time only?
Hospitals and clinicsPublic: government scales; private: owner-set, often with call allowancesShift pattern and call pay
Tech and remote workCompany-set, sometimes in foreign currencyCurrency, contract type, who pays tax
Retail and hospitalityOwner-set, sometimes with commission or tipsBase pay versus commission

Example ranges (illustrative, not survey data)

The ranges below are invented to show how offers might spread across roles. Use them only as prompts for questions; check real offers and ask colleagues in the sector.

Role (example)Example monthly gross
Entry-level shop or hotel staff₦80,000 to ₦120,000
Private primary school teacher₦80,000 to ₦180,000
Nurse, private clinic₦150,000 to ₦300,000
Bank customer service (contract)₦120,000 to ₦250,000
Junior software developer, local firm₦200,000 to ₦450,000
Remote role for a foreign companyVaries widely; often quoted in foreign currency

Any offer below ₦80,000 a month for an employed role in Enugu State is below the state minimum wage set in October 2024. Where an offer seems low, ask whether it is full-time, whether allowances are paid on top, and whether the employer is registered; part-time and casual arrangements are common in retail and schools, and they change how the floor applies to you.

How to compare two offers

Headline pay hides a lot. Compare offers on the same basis:

  1. Months paid: a school paying ₦150,000 for ten months pays ₦1,500,000 a year; a clinic paying ₦130,000 for twelve months pays ₦1,560,000. The lower monthly figure is higher over the year.
  2. Deductions: ask for the payslip breakdown, including tax, pension and any other deductions. See pension contribution rates for how pension is shared.
  3. Allowances: transport, housing, lunch or call allowances can be a large share of pay; check whether they are guaranteed.
  4. Commute: a job across town can cost a large share of a low salary; see transport costs in Enugu.
  5. Payment reliability: ask current staff whether salaries arrive on time.

Worked example: offer A versus offer B

Offer A (example): ₦140,000 a month for 12 months, with ₦20,000 a month spent on transport. Net of transport: (140,000 - 20,000) x 12 = ₦1,440,000 a year. Offer B (example): ₦160,000 a month for 10 months, close enough to walk. Net of transport: 160,000 x 10 = ₦1,600,000 a year. Offer B is worth ₦160,000 more over the year, before deductions, even though it pays nothing for two months; you would need to save to cover those months.

Self-employment and small business

Many Enugu workers earn from trades and small businesses rather than salaries. The Enugu MSME and Startup Agency (Enugu SME Center) runs mapping, grant and training programmes; in August 2024 the state reported grants including ₦60,000 to over 16,000 nano businesses and ₦400,000 to 187 MSMEs (Peoples Gazette, Aug 2024). For loans and support, see Enugu SME Center loans.

What to check first

  • That the offer meets the ₦80,000 floor for employed roles.
  • Who your legal employer is.
  • How many months are paid and what deductions apply.
  • Whether allowances are written into the contract.

To set a budget once you accept, see cost of living in Enugu.

Where Pryme fits

For employers, Pryme Business Accounts support payroll, with a Finance agent that prepares payment runs for a person to approve. Employees paid in foreign currency can hold it in a multicurrency account.
